Welcome to 411’s WWE Smackdown Report 1.28.16

– We get highlights from the Royal Rumble.

– New Day is out to kick off the show. Woods did imaginary double Dutch, while Big E did snow angels in the ring. As they we were getting ready to speak, we got highlights (a long set of highlights) from their segment with the Rock on Raw. Big E claimed that Rock should be ashamed of himself, while Kofi said that they just wanted to enlighten the Rock. Rock doesn’t have what they have, and that is gold. They were insulted that Rock called their unicorn horns llama penises, and Big E calls him “doo doo mouth Dwayne.” The Miz is here, but not to fight, he feels their pain because the Rock insulted him as well. Miz is a contemporary, and doesn’t get upstaged. He is an a-lister, a movie star, and he main evented Mania. He wanted respect, but instead got the Usos. They mock the Miz for being mad and for wearing a dress. New Day says that they are riding Rock’s coattails and also have an allergy to gold and Dwayne isn’t there to save them tonight. The Usos then call out Titus O’Neil and Dolph Ziggler to even the odds. They all brawl, and we know what that means…

New Day and The Miz vs. The Usos, Dolph Ziggler, and Titus O’Neil: Woods teased starting, but Miz tagged in. Jey controlled early, danced a bit as Woods yelled at the crowd not to cheer. Some double teams by the Usos, Kofi tags in as does Titus. Chops to Kofi in the corner, and then Ziggler tagged in and hit a dropkick and covered for 2. Kofi fought back with an eye rake and dropkick, tags in Woods and he hits a dropkick as well. The heels worked over Ziggler in their corner, Big E tagged in but Ziggler got the tag to Jimmy after some counters, and he worked over Big E with rights and a Samoan drop. Jimmy got shots in on all the heels, but then Big E hit an overhead belly to belly, and we went to a commercial…

Back from commercial as the heels did the revolving door kicks in the corner on Jimmy. Miz and New Day danced as Wood splayed the trombone. Kofi caused a distraction as Miz beat on Jimmy in the corner. Jimmy eventually hit an enziguri on Kofi, avoided an attack by Woods and got the tag to Titus. We got hot tag Titus here, as he ran wild on the heels and tossed people around. He got a near fall on Miz, and it broke down with everyone in. Double dives by the Usos connected, Zigzag by Ziggler and then superkicks Miz into the clash of the Titus and that is all.

OFFICIAL RESULT: The Usos, Dolph Ziggler, and Titus O’Neil @ 12:15 via pin
Rating: **½

– Titus went into the crowd and danced with the kids he had visited with and gave free tickets to.

US Title Match: Champion Kalisto vs. Neville: They had a quick standoff, and then went right into a really fast paced opening. Neville countered a RANA on the floor, but as he went for a running powerbomb, Kalisto turned it into a RANA, sending Neville into the barricade. They teased a double countout, but both made it back in and they went to a commercial break…

Back from commercial as Kalisto went for the seated senton, but Neville countered with a powerbomb, and that got a near fall. Neville got the heat from there, working over Kalisto in the corner, delivering clotheslines and kicks. Kalisto tried to fire back with kicks, but ran into a back elbow. Neville sent Kalisto to the apron, and followed. He grabbed Kalisto on his shoulders and climbed to the top. Kalisto tried to fight him off, they went all the way up and Kalisto hit the SUPER RANA. BOTH men are down; Kalisto crawls over and gets the cover for 2. Neville countered the salida del sol with an enziguri, and then laid in more kicks to Kalisto. Neville then tried the deadlift German, but Kalisto with the roll trough for 2. Neville with another kick to the head, but Kalisto sloppily countered the deadlift German into the salida del sol, and that was it.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Kalisto @ 7:55 via pin
Rating: **¾

– They shook hands post match.

– The Highlight Reel is next.

THE HIGHLIGHT REEL: Jericho welcomed us to the show, discussing the Rumble match (and how long he lasted) and the fact that Triple H won and became the champion. He then discussed his match with Styles on Raw, and said it was must see TV. The piped in noise tonight is so obvious this week it’s not even funny. He put over the Fastlane main event, and introduced Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. Ambrose brought a flower with him, because he wants to show off his softer side. Ambrose said the flower was to jazz up the set, and Reigns gave him a new wooden stool to set the flower on. Jericho put over their friendship, and asked if the Fastlane match would cause issues. Ambrose said that friends fight over all sort of stuff, and says they have no time for this sort of thing, but wile punch Reigns in the mouth. They joke about giving their strategy away, and Jericho asks about Lesnar’s inclusion in the match. Ambrose said that Lesnar was a force of destruction, but that he was indestructible. Are they going to address the time Jericho teamed with them vs. the Wyatts, and then left like a bitch post match? Reigns put over that Lesnar was for real and threw him around; he’s different than anyone Ambrose has ever faced. Ambrose then says he doesn’t have to beat Lesnar; he just has to beat Reigns. Reigns then said Ambrose never defeated him before, and the Wyatts arrived. Bray spoke about the apocalypse says then said that they slayed Lesnar at the Rumble, and Reigns made fun of him and said no one knows what he is talking about. Reigns challenged them to come to the ring, and bray says something about Reigns needed to eat hearts or some shit. Wyatt said he and two of his brothers would put the three of them down forever. Well, we all know what this means…

– The Social Outcasts are in the ring, and cut a promo. They are upset that everyone is talking about AJ Styles. They are upset that Axel’s year long run in the Rumble has come to an end at the hand of Styles. THE AX MAN WANTS REVENGE!

AJ Styles vs. Curtis Axel w/The Social Outcasts: Lock up to begin, go behind by Styles but Axel hits an elbow. Off the ropes, and AJ hits the dropkick. The knee drop follows. Axel grabbed the apron to halt Styles’ attack, and hit a clothesline to the back of the head. Lawler went on a big rant about Styles’ accolades not meaning anything because they didn’t happen in WWE. Axel hit a dropkick, and then the side back breaker. Axel misses the elbow off the second rope, and Styles followed with clotheslines and elbows. Axel ate the back elbow; Styles hit a PELE off the ropes (although I think he was going for the asai DDT and Axel was too far out). The Outcasts tried to distract Styles, so Styles hit a dive to take out Slater and Dallas. Axel cuts off the springboard, PELE by Styles and then the Styles Clash connects and that is all.

OFFICIAL RESULT: AJ Styles @ 3:25 via pin
Rating: **

– Post match, Styles escapes an attempted attack from the Outcasts.

– Ric and Charlotte walk, Lawler calls them a “power couple,” making the pairing officially creepy and awkward. Thanks Jerry.

Non-Title Match: Champion Charlotte w/Ric Flair vs. Natalya: Nice beginning, working the basics quickly and clean. Natalya kept getting the better of Charlotte, hit the basement dropkick and Charlotte ran to the ropes. Charlotte finally connected wit the bog boot, and then repeatedly slammed Natalya’s head to the mat. Charlotte worked an abdominal stretch; Natalya elbowed out and switched into an abdominal stretch of her own. Charlotte tried to escape, backslide by Natalya, but Charlotte rolled through and caught Natalya with a kick and followed with chops. Natalya fought back and hit a German, Charlotte rolled to the floor and Natalya followed. Ric woo’d at her for the distraction, Natalya likely feared he’d forcefully make out with her, and that allowed Charlotte to take out the knee and lock in the figure eight, and Natalya had to tap.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Charlotte @ 3:52 via submission
Rating: **

– Charlotte continued the attack post match and Becky Lynch then ran out to make the save. Charlotte ran away.

– R-Truth is outside for a run, and Goldust appears and wants to run with him. Truth agrees, and says they need to stretch. Of course Goldust does weird shit, and freaks Truth out. Truth still refuses to be his tag partner, because he doesn’t swing that way. Goldust tries to explain himself better, but then apparently pulls a groin and says he needs a groin massage. Truth says that’s the oldest trick in the book and leaves offended.

Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Erick Rowan w/Strowman: Rowan started for the Wyatts, and the faces took turns working his over during the first 90-seconds. Rowan finally was able to rush Jericho to his corner, and Harper tagged in. Harper beat down Jericho for a bit, but then Jericho hit an axe handle off the top. He tried for the walls, Harper escaped and Jericho hit an enziguri for 2. Mounted rights by Jericho in the corner, and then Harper snatched him up and hit a suplex out of that to turn the tide, and we went to the commercial break…

Back from the break as Bray works over Jericho, connecting with the corner splash in the corner. Rowan tags in and works the skull crusher to maintain control. Jericho fights to his feet, but Rowan hits a side back breaker and covers for 2. Harper tags in now, working an inverted leg lock on Jericho. Jericho manages to escape, but Harper works the chinlock. Jericho escapes, off the ropes for a cross body, but Harper catches him and hits the Michinoku driver for a near fall. Harper sends Reigns to the floor, but Jericho hits a desperation code breaker and both are down. Ambrose and Rowan get tagged in, Ambrose runs wild and hits his elbow drop to the standing Rowan for 2. Ambrose knocks Bray to the floor and hits a slingshot cross body, Rowan sent to the floor, and Ambrose hits him with a suicide dive. Rowan fights back with a big boot and tags in Bray. Bray gets all excited and goes for Sister Abigail, but Ambrose rolls him up for 2. Jawbreaker lariat by Ambrose, and then the big tag to Reigns. Reigns runs wild on the Wyatts, Ambrose in and so is Jericho as it completely breaks down. Jericho and Ambrose with stereo planchas, Reigns sets for the end but Strowman distracts him, Harper with the roll up for 2. Superman punch to Harper, and Strowman pulls Reigns to the floor and that’s a DQ.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Ambrose, Reigns and Jericho @ 13:37 via DQ
Rating: ***

– The Wyatts beat down Jericho, Ambrose and Reigns with Strowman tossing people around and then the Big Show makes the save. He takes out Harper and Rowan, and goes face to face with Strowman. Harper and Rowan return to attack Show, and the Wyatts all beat on him. Reigns returns to the ring and Strowman cuts off the Superman punch. Show is able to take Strowman to the floor, and Reigns hits the Superman punch on Bray. Harper left alone, so Show tosses him into a spear by Reigns. Jericho, Reigns, Ambrose and the newly turned face (for the 43rd time) Big Show stand tall.
