411’s WWE Smackdown Report 4.02.15

April 2, 2015 | Posted by Eric Palmer

* Smackdown! starts with a recap video from RAW of Paul Heyman’s promo with Brock Lesnar talking about how Lesnar destroyed Roman Reigns and was screwed over by Seth Rollins’ genius plan. Also shown is Brock’s awesome flip out after Rollins refused to give him his rematch on RAW. Lesnar hit Michael Cole with the F-5, as well as the cameraman with two of them. Stephanie comes out and suspends Lesnar indefinitely.

*Tom Phillips, Jerry Lawler and Byron Saxton are on commentary tonight. They update Michael Cole’s condition, and state that Cole, JBL and Booker will all be on RAW on Monday.

*We officially open Smackdown! with the new WWE World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins. He’s with J&J Security, Big Show and Kane. He starts talking about how good it feels when a plan works out perfectly, referring to his Money in the Bank cash-in at Wrestlemania, which gets a mixed reaction from the crowd. He declares himself the new face of the WWE, and says he’s now proven that he’s the best wrestler in the world before going over his itinerary with working the Today Show before going across the country to RAW and hearing about Lesnar wanting his rematch. He blames not defending the belt on being jet-lagged, again. Rollins says Lesnar is to blame for not getting his title shot due to his lack of self-control, and calls him an animal that is out of his mind, reminding us again that Lesnar is suspended. He’s interrupted by Randy Orton, who comes out to a big pop. Orton says he remembers all that Rollins did to him, including the Curbstomp onto the steps that sidelined him for months, and then beating him at Wrestlemania 31 before Seth cashed in his Money in the Bank. Orton claims he’s still owed a rematch from last year’s Wrestlemania, and demands a title shot again Rollins. A big “RKO” chant erupts before Rollins says Orton shouldn’t dwell on the past when the present and future of the WWE is standing in the ring in Rollins. He denies Orton’s demand and says he and he alone decides when the next title shot happens. Orton says Rollins never does anything alone, before insulting J&J security, then Kane and Big Show. He congratulates Show for winning the Andre the Giant Battle Royal, and rips on Kane for not having a match at Wrestlemania. He says Kane from being “The Big Red Monster to Little Red Riding Hood.” I laughed at that. Kane decides to make a match. It’ll be Randy Orton vs The Big Show. He says if Orton can beat Show, that The Authority MAYBE, just MAYBE, will reconsider his request for a title match. That match starts right….NOW!

*Big Show vs Randy Orton

We start with Big Show taking advantage early, and throwing Orton into the corner before hitting hitting a splash in the corner followed by a dropkick by Orton that sends Show onto the apron. Orton goes for the Hangman’s DDT and connects! He calls for the RKO, but is attacked by J&J security to end the match very quickly by DQ.

Official Result: Randy Orton via DQ @ 1:17

*After the match, they continue the assault until Orton gains the upperhand briefly. Kane chokeslams Orton before Ryback’s music hits for a huge pop. Rollins and Show flee as Ryback clears house of Kane. Mercury and Kane take RKOs as Noble eats a Shellshocked. Orton and Ryback pose as we go to the announcing table.

*We get a recap of RAW where Bryan beat Ziggler to retain the Intercontintental Championship, before being assaulted by Barrett and then Sheamus’ return and heel turn. The Brogue Kick to Ziggler was just brutal. Sheamus vs Bryan is announced for later tonight.

*Back from commercial, we get another recap from Wrestlemania, this one is recapping the segment with Triple H, Stephanie, The Rock and Ronda Rousey.

*Naomi vs Natalya

The Bellas are on commentary for this match as Natalya gets the jobber entrance. We also get a little promo by Naomi about pinning Nikki Bella on RAW. I think she might be worse on the mic than the Bellas. We start with a lock up and some decent chaining from the women before they both go for double dropkicks and stare each other down. Another lock up has Natalya doing a sling shot Bubba Bomb type move that lands Naomi on her ass before pounding away on Naomi. Some clubs to the back and an abdominal stretch by Natalya, but Naomi fights out and tries to lock one in of her own, but Natalya counters with a hiptoss. Natalya knocks Naomi onto the apron, but she’s caught with a sunset flip for two. Naomi hits a DDT for the win.

Official Result: Naomi via pinfall @ 2:15

*It’s announced that John Cena is going to address Rusev later tonight, as well as an exclusive Roman Reigns sit-down interview as we go to commercial.

*Back from commercial we see Kane furious backstage about the RKO. Seth comes in and laughs with Kane about possibly giving Orton a title shot. Kane says he was serious about it, and says that Orton vs Rollins would be a solid main event for Extreme Rules in four weeks. Rollins asks if he’s really buying into Orton’s shtick and says “this stinks.” He’s referring to the office as Dean Ambrose emerges from Kane’s personal bathroom. The crowd has a laugh and so do I. Kane books Ambrose in a match with Luke Harper later tonight. Apparently Kane’s bathroom as six-ply toilet paper.

*At ringside, the commentary team talks about Roman Reigns before they show Byron’s interview with him. Roman says it was a huge honor to be apart of the main event, and said his plan was to come out swinging. Roman says he showed people he’s willing to take a beating, and knew it was going to be brutal. He said he “dusted his ass off,” that’s a weird way to phrase it. He said he visited Suplex City and stopped at every place in it. Roman claims he survived Suplex City and that he’s thinking of buying a condo there. He says Lesnar wasn’t ready for him, and that he didn’t have an answer for Reigns. He said he changed his appearance permanently. Byron asks Reigns about smiling and laughing at Brock during the match. Reigns says it was just the type of fight it was. It changed his life, Brock’s life and things won’t be the same. He said Lesnar was trying to take him out, and he was spitting out blood and smiling in his face. “Lesnar legitimately could not knock out Roman Reigns” interesting line. Byron brings up Seth cashing in Money in the Bank, and Reigns said it was a terrible moment. That he was at the top of the mountain, before Rollins pulled him right off in a matter of moments. He gave Rollins credit for picking the perfect moment to cash in Money in the Bank, but Reigns says he proved he “can and will” have beat Brock Lesnar. He said he only needed a couple of more seconds, and that he can, he has and he will beat Seth Rollins again.

*Miz comes out for a match as we go to commercial.

*Back from commercial, R-Truth comes out for the match to a pretty decent pop. I can never understand what he’s saying in his rap. We get a recap before the bell rings of Mizdow beating Stardust with the Skull Crushing Finale before being assaulted by Miz. Miz claps at the footage to a chorus of boos.

*The Miz vs R-Truth

Miz is still clapping before they lock up. Shoulder block by Miz, duck then hiptoss by Truth. Miz charges at Truth but takes a calf kick and then a corner splash instead. Truth goes for the axe kick, but Miz reverses into a roll up. Miz goes out to the apron and kicks Truth in the stomach before hitting a Skull Crushing Finale for the three.

Official Result: Miz via Pinfall @ 1:20

*Mizdow runs in after the match and hits the Skull Crushing Finale on Miz to big cheers before putting on Miz’s sunglasses and posing for the crowd. Mizdow is still over.

*Up next is John Cena’s ring time about his Wrestlemania win as we go to commercial.

*John Cena comes out after a quick recap of his Wrestlemania match with Rusev. Rusev’s tank entrance is still amazing. Cena gets his usual mixed reaction. He goes for the cheap pop by mentioning Fresno and states he’s fired up. He says finally the United States Championship will get the respect it deserves. I hope that’s a spoiler, that belt needs prestige. He said Rusev as champion made him sick, not because he’s Russian, but because he’s a dick. That’s not PG. He claims Rusev is the American dream, stating he’s an immigrant who came and became successful, instead of being grateful, he told Americans they suck. Cena says America doesn’t suck, and he’s a proud American as well as a proud US Champion. He quotes the Statue of Liberty and says “bring me your outcasts, bring me your underdogs, your future stars, your have nots” etc etc. He says he’ll basically fight anybody. I’m hoping for David Arquette’s long awaited wrestling return. Cena talks about his open challenge from RAW, and announces he will do the same thing each and every week. This could be interesting. Rusev’s music hits and out he comes with Lana. She says what happened at Wrestlemania was not an opportunity, but a travesty. Good line. She tells the mild crowd to shut up and says Cena is half the man that Rusev is (cue Sid Vicious promo). She says we should all be grateful we live in the era of-. Rusev cuts her off and says he didn’t lost at Wrestlemania, and claims he’s still champion and calls himself a Russian Tank. Can’t deny that, he did come out in one. He says Cena and Americans are cowards and starts talking in Russian. He says it’s Rusev’s Domain, his country, his world. He gives Cena the opportunity to surrender the title or to be crushed at Extreme Rules. Rusev is holding his own well here. Cena calls him drunk and does what he does best, undermine his opponents. Rusev starts walking down the ring and Cena says the champ is here. Rusev starts talking Russian again and waves the flag around with intensity. He tries to make the Russian flag drop, but nothing falls. He tries again and fails again. Cena mocks him and drops down an American flag instead, followed by Cena naming a bunch of different things that are American before accepting Rusev’s challenge for Extreme Rules. I like Cena issuing an open challenge every week for the belt.

*We get a recap, again, of Sheamus’ attack on Bryan earlier this week on RAW before another commercial break.

*We get a promo package for Adrian Neville, but it seems they’re dropping the “Adrian” from his name, as it just said “Neville.” Personally, not a fan. Some people need both names. Neville, is one of those names.

*Dean Ambrose vs Luke Harper

Luke Harper is in the ring as we come back from break. They show some pictures of Harper hitting a powerbomb through the ladder at Wrestlemania. Ambrose’s music hits for what may be the second biggest pop of the night behind only Orton so far. Match starts with Ambrose going right after Harper and driving him into the corner with some strikes. Elbow by Ambrose followed by a diving uppercut from the second rope. Snapmare by Ambrose and a falling clothesline with a quick elbow for a one count. Harper hits Ambrose in the throat and hits a few more throat thrusts before choking him in the corner. Strike exchange now before Harper eats a kick and a strike combo by Ambrose. Crossbody attempt by Ambrose is thwarted when Harper catches him and dumps him out of the ring as we go to commercial….

*…back from commercial, Harper is in control, but misses a big boot in the corner that sends Harper over the top. Ambrose goes for a suicide dive, but Harper catches him, so Ambrose swings around the bottom rope and hits a lariat. Rolls Harper into the ring and goes up top for the top rope elbow to a standing Harper for two. Ambrose hits a few strikes in the corner and goes for a dropkick but eats a vicious big boot by Harper. Harper calls for a powerbomb, but Ambrose reverses and tosses Harper over the top rope. Ambrose rushes Harper outside the ring, but Harper throws him into the timekeeper’s area and rips apart the announce table. Ambrose jumps off the barricade with a big forearm. Ambrose tries to powerbomb Harper into the table, but that doesn’t work well. Harper throws him against the ring post a couple of times and powerbombs Ambrose through the announce table for a nice spot. No bell every officially rings, but the referee throws up the X and calls for EMTs. We go to commercial with Ambrose laid out.

Official Result: No Contest

*Back from commercial we get a recap of Harper’s powerbomb to Ambrose just a few moments ago. Harper is helped out by a ref and the EMT.

*We get a promo from the Prime Time Playas. They cut a promo on New Day, and Titus is spraying himself with water before randomly shouting “FEEL-AHHHH THE POW-AHHHH” he says Big E has no rhythm, Kofi Kingston has a weird chest and Xavier Woods has bad hair. The point of this promo? Remind everyone why Titus gets no push. If you took a mic away from Titus, made him a silent killer, he could get over.

*Sheamus comes out for a promo before his match and has a new theme! I like it. Fans chant “you look stupid.” He said the reason he attacked Ziggler and Bryan was simple, because he can. He said while he was injured, he asked him out “where have all the real men gone.” I like that. He said Ziggler and Bryan make Kevin Hart look like Shaquille O’Neal. He said he’s not here to put a smile on the fans faces, but he’s “simply here to crush your hopes and dreams.” He said he won’t stop until he puts all the fans’ little underdogs out of their misery. Great short promo by Sheamus. Daniel Bryan makes his entrance to a huge pop as we go to commercial.

*Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus

Bad News Barrett is on commentary for this match. We start with Sheamus and Bryan exchanging corner strikes before they start exchanging kicks. Bryan gets control briefly before Sheamus takes off Bryan’s head with a clothesline. Sheamus hits a few uppercuts that leaves Bryan staggering around the ring. Foot choke in the corner by Sheamus followed by some shoving and taunting. Bryan takes offense to this and starts kicking Sheamus before hitting a nice dragon screw. Bryan tries for a weird submission, but Sheamus breaks the hold so Bryan decides to punch him in the face a lot instead. Sheamus rolls outside and walks around the ring. Back inside, they lock up but Sheamus pushes Bryan into the corner and whips him off the ropes. Bryan ducks and then slides through Sheamus’ legs before hitting a bunch of kicks to the chest. Tilt-a-Whirl backbreaker by Sheamus as Bryan rolls outside as we cut to commercial…

*…back from commercial Sheamus is in control. Snapmare by Sheamus followed by a chin lock. During the break, Bryan had a hope spot but missed a dropkick in the corner. Bad News tells Tom to call him “Sir Bad News Barrett” lulz. Sheamus goes for a suplex but just flips Bryan vertically onto his back, hard move to explain, but then he does it again. Basically, he lifts Bryan vertically like a normal suplex, and then flips Bryan onto his back. There, that was easier. Uppercut by Sheamus followed by another foot choke in the corner. Sheamus shouts out “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!” I laughed. Sheamus starts slapping Bryan in the corner and taunting him “come on Danny! they want ya! They cheering for ya!” Bryan fights back and hits his backflip off the rope into the flying elbow combo and both men are down. Sheamus charges and Bryan dumps him outside the ring and hits the suicide dive! Bryan rolls Sheamus back into the ring and goes up top for a big dropkick! Bryan kips up to his feet and starts the kicks to the chest, but Sheamus blocks the kick to the head and goes for the White Noise, but Bryan reverses and goes for the Yes! Lock. Sheamus reverses it and tosses Bryan into the corner. Sheamus charges but Bryan hits a drop toe hold into the corner. Bryan goes up top, but Sheamus crotches him and catches his breath before hitting a few uppercuts and a weird looking neckbreaker. Bryan rolls to the apron and Sheamus goes for the ten chest shots, but after three, Bryan reverses with a bunch of headbutts before Sheamus knocks him off the apron. Sheamus has the ref distracted as Barrett comes out from behind the table and hits Bryan with a Bullhammer! The ref coutns to 10 and this match is over!

Official Result: Sheamus by Count-Out @ 14:52

*After the match, we see Sheamus posing at the top of the entrance ramp to end the show.
