411’s WWE Smackdown Report 8.22.14

The WWE is in the hot city known as Pheonix, and we’re starting with the show with Randy Orton. We are joined on commentary by Todd Somethin-or-Other from NXT, and it’d be great if he broke the monotony of the commentary team.

Orton claims that one match does not define him or Roman Reigns. He has been called The Legend Killer, The Apex Predator, and The Viper, but never a loser. All this has done is make him that much more focused, and when he is focused, things like *this* – points towards Orton’s RKO to Reigns last month – tend to happen. Reigns will get what he deserves, what he has coming to him. Maybe even tonight. But, first things first – he has a match with RVD. He apologizes to Rob because he is nothing more to Orton tonight than collateral damage. He will serve as an example. Orton deserves our respect. Now that his focus is back, he will simply take it from us.

Well, that was average. The music of Rollins hits, and Orton shakes hands with him before leaving. Seth is in action…next!

Match 1: Seth Rollins vs Jack Swagger
Lokcup to start into a quick go-behind and a takedown from Swagger. Swagger doesn’t let go, and takes Swagger down again. Third time is thwarted, but Swagger drops Seth. Seth kicks Swagger away and heads out of the ring. Seth re-enters at 3 and goes for a kick. Swagger grabs the neck and shoves Seth into the corner. He hits some shoulders. Seth fights back with rights, and hits a few knees. Swagger pushes him away, but Seth fires back with a dropkick to the ribs. he drops ribs straight to the injured ribs of Swagger. Scissors to the midsection from Seth. Swagger rolls and stands. Seth locks in a choke. Swagger backs up in the corner, pressing Seth into the turnbuckle. Swagger grabs, Seth reverses, and kicks. He sends Swagger into the corner then hits a running kick and tosses Swagger to the center of the ring. 2nd rope hop, right into a belly-to-belly grab, and Swagger TOSSES Seth across the ring. Seth on the apron. Swagger runs for a shoulder, but Seth moves and Swagger is left hanging. hard kick to the gut of Swagger and we get a break.

When we return, Swagger has Seth in a wheelbarrow, and tosses him like a rag doll over the top of his head. Swagger dodges a splash, and hits a clothesline! he hits a splash in the corner then a hard toss into the opposite corner. Up and over by Swagger to Seth! He calls for the people, runs, SWAGGER BOMB! He hits it, but hurts his ribs hard. Pin for 1…2..NO! Seth is on the apron again. Swagger grabs him and turns, then tosses him back in the ring by the head. Swagger runs, and gets hit with a mule kick to the gut. Swagger is by the ropes. Seth runs, Swagger tosses him over, but Rollins lands on his feet and hits a hard kick to the head! Seth goes up top! He flies! SWAGGER GRABS THE ANKLE! Patriot Lock!! Rollins counters, goes for the Curb Stomp, but Swagger moves! Swagger and Seth tumble to the outside! Seth holds on, and rolls back into the ring. Swagger on the outside. Seth goes for a baseball slide, but Swagger grabs the ankle! He locks in the Patriot Lock! He pulls and Seth lands on the mat face first! Seth stands, and Swagger runs….Seth moves and hits the pole shoulder first!! Seth clotheslines Swagger over the barricade! The ref is at 5!

Swagger rolls back in at 9, but Seth hits the CURB STOMP!!!! The count is broken! The ref starts it over! Swager isn’t moving. The crowd chants for USA. The ref is at 9…10!

A lot of action here, and credit goes to Swagger as much as it goes to Seth.

After the match, the music of Bo Dallas is here to inspire. Bo enters the ring while Swagger stirs on the outside. Bo says that Swagger has gone from being an American hero to being an American zero. But! In true patriotic fashion, Bo is willing to pick up the pieces of Swagger’s failure and become the NEW American Sweetheart. He knows things seem bleak right now, but there is nothing to fear but fear itself and all we have to do is look at fear right in the face and say, “I Bo-Lieve!

After a Summerlam/RAW recap, we see The Miz on the phone ordering a Venti Skinny Pumpkin Spiced Latte. He looks over to Kane and says unless this is about his rematch, then speak to his agent. Miz’s agent does all of his negotiating so he doesn’t have to deal with freaks like Kane. Kane says this isn’t about the rematch, but since we’re so into sequels here, he’ll get one tonight against Roman Reigns.

Match 2: Rusev vs Sin Cara
Sin Cara looks to be stealing Fandango’s colors..which is all of them in puke combination. Cara goes for the legs, but can’t properly grab them. His third attempt is a failure, as Rusev grabs the arm and sends Cara into the corner. Hard stomps send Cara to the mat. Rusev lifts and hits a headbutt. He grabs the head and Sin Cara hits a kick, another. A hard dropkick off the ropes. Another. Cara in the corner with a chop and a hit. He is whipped inot the corner, but hops over the top rope. Sin Cara up top! Missile dropkick! He runs, gets tossed….then Rusev hits a hard kick to the chin! Lana wants a Crush. I got one.

Big Stomp to the back, and Rusev locks in the Accolade! Sin Cara taps.

Lana is here. She says that this is what happens when you disrespect Russia. Mark Henry appears on the screen. He guesses Rusev didn’t get the message on Monday…so guess what happens now. The music of Henry hits, and here comes Sexual Chocolate. Lana holds her midsection. Nice sell. Henry heads down the ramp. Rusev hops out of the ring the moment Henry enters. “You gone let a woman hold you back?” hahaha, oh Henry.

Backstage, Renee Young is chillin with RVD. Renee mentions Orton and asks how RVD feels. He says that Randy needs to chill the hell out. There’s no shame in losing to Reigns. Clearly, Orton is obsessed, demanding respect from everyone but what he should be doing is worrying about tonight’s match with the WHOLE “DAMN” SHOW. PG for the win! He gets attacked mid acronym by Orton. Orton on the mic, “Tell him, when he wakes up, I’ll be waiting for him in the ring.” haha. Asshole.

Match 3: Randy Orton vs RVD
RVD comes RUNNIN down the ramp and into the ring for the attack. Orton rolls out, and the ref stops RVD. Orton enters the ring, and the match officially starts. RVD with right hands that are blocked by Orton. Orton with a quick trip, sending RVD into the ropes face first. Orton stomps in the corner. RVD chant starts up. Whip from Orton is stopped short and he sends RVD back into the original corner. Orton goes for a splash, but RVD hits a thrust kick to Orton. Another kick, followed by a spinning heel kick and a clothesline, sending orton to the outside. RVD with a senton over the top rope to Orton! RVD with a front suplex atop the barricade to Orton! RVD heads up top the apron and goes for a spinning leg drop, but Orton moves out of the way, and RVD’s ankle lands atop the barricade. A fan hilariously shouts, “What did you think was gonna happen?!”

Orton tosses RVD back first into the barricade. One more for good measure! Orton bounces RVD’s head off of the announce table! RVD is sent into the steps! ORton sends RVD one more time into the steps! Orton grabs RVD and sends him back towards the announce table!
The ref finally calls for the bell as Orton tosses RVD over the table.

Was this an attempt to give Orton some semblance of recovery after the loss to Reigns? If so, doesn’t that kind of tarnish the win, or is this a continuation?

Hard clothesline to RVD by Orton. Orton sets RVD up on the barricade. He hits the hard DDT. Orton isn’t done. He lifts RVD and brings him back to the ring. Orton grabs a chair. Orton slithers into the ring and sets the chair up for sittin. He does the ol Zack Morris sit and stares down at RVD, then mockingly does the thumb thing. Orton stands, grabs RVD by the head, and we get an RKO to the steel chair! Orton goes to the announcers and tells them to tell Roman that Orton will see him out here later.

Backstage, Renee Young is backstage with Roman Reigns. He gives Renee the ol “hey gurl” eyes. She brings up Orton’s statement. Reigns laughs it off, saying he wishes Orton would. He knows what Orton and The Authority is capable of, and now that he’s seen what Kane and Rollins did to Ambrose, they will have their revenge (nice continuity, guys!). Reigns brings up Orton’s methodical decimation, and Reigns says he speared his ass and beat him. If Orton wants to continue this fight, then that’s fine by Reigns. Someone needs to kill the legend that is Randy Orton, and that someone is him. Believe Dat.

We get a recap of my beloved heading to the ring on Monday going nutso on Paige. I love Crazy AJ most of all…

Match 4: Natalya vs Paige
Paige with a cheap shot elbow to the face of Nattie. Paige with some stomps in the corner to Nattie. Paige is very upset, it appears. Nattie ain’t havin it and hits a hard slap then some knees to the guts. Hard right then a double underhook suplex from Nattie! Paige heads to the outside for a breath of fresh air, but Nattie ain’t havin it, and hits a baseball slide. She sends Paige into the ring, but Paige heads on the outside. Nattie heads towards Paige, and is met with a hard Doc Marten to the face! Nattie tries to stand, so Paige grabs the arm and pulls hard into the ring post! Paige heads into the ring and skips some. Nattie back in the ring at 8. Paige with the seductive crawl towards Nattie. Hard headbutt, then she mounts Nattie. Some more headbutts to Nattie! Paige stands, hits a hard right to the head, then hangs Nattie over the second rope. Paige with some hard knees to Natalya! Nattie falls back into the ring as Paige skips around. Paige locks in scissors. Nattie turns into the hold. The music of AJ Lee hits, and she comes skipping down the ring like a lovely little lady. She heads towards the timekeepers area, and grabs the Divas Title as Paige hits a crossbody and pin for 1..NO! Nattie rolls up Paige off the distraction! 1….2…NO! Paige breaks out and kicks Nattie! She notices AJ leaving with the title. AJ brings it to the top of the ramp and places it on the floor.

Paige grabs the title skeptically and heads back down the ramp. She gets in the ring at 8, but Nattie locks in the Sharpshooter! AJ heads down, grabs the belt, and stares at Paige. Paige taps!!!

Match 5: Goldust and Stardust vs The Wyatt Family
Harper and Cody to start. Stardust with a right hand, another, one more. Harper with a hard chop to stop it. He goes for a back suplex, but Cody lands on his feet and hits a curtsy…yes, a curtsy. Harper attacks in the corner, whips Cody. Cody hops over, hits a kick and a Dusty uppercut. Cody turns, but Harper hits a right and grabs the head of Cody. Tag to Rowan. Rowan in with a knee in the corner. Headbutt to Stardust. Rowan sends Cody to the ropes. Cody slides under, hits the ropes. Blind tag from Goldy. Cody distracts, Goldust with a bulldog! Uppercuts from Goldust. Rowan sends Goldy into the corner, but Goldust gets out and hits some rights. Rowan sends him back in the corner and hits some hard rights, sending Goldust down to the mat. Goldust is able to recover and get the punches in the corner. He only gets to 6 before he is sent off by Rowan and sent into the corner. Hard right to the chest by Rowan. Rowan with a whip, GOldust stops, and hits an uppercut. Goldy hits the ropes. Rowan hits the adjacent side, and trucks Goldust, sending him to the outside!

After a break, we see Harper is tagged in and hits a dropkick to Goldust. Tag to Rowan. Rowan drops an elbow to the chest of Goldust. Rowan lifts Goldust like nothing then hits a stalled body slam. Rowan with a leg drop to GOldust! Pin for 1…2….NO! Rowan with a stomp to the chest. He lifts GOldust but GOldy ihts a right, another. He hits the ropes and runs right into a forearm! Rowan holds Goldust, drops him on the apron, and tags in Harper. Harper with rights and headbutts like a wild man. Gator Roll from Harper! Harper is up, whips Goldy. Goldust with a dropkick and a hurricanrana! He stands to tag Cody, but Harper hits a big boot! Harper wants the Powerbomb! He hits it! Pin for 1….2…NO! Stardust is in to attack!

Rowan heads in to attack Cody, but Cody holds the ropes! Rowan goes down! Harper sends Cody off the apron! Goldust with the rollup! Pin for 1…2…3!!!

Nice match, and a more solid progression.

After the match, Harper attacks Goldust, sending him to the outside! Rowan lifts up GOldy and sends him backfirst into the ring post. Harper with Cody. He sends him into the barricade a few times then tosses him over the barricade! Harper grabs Cody, brings him back over to the mat, then goes to grab an announcer’s chair. HE TOSSES THE CHAIR INTO CODY!! Wow. Harper and Rowan enter the ring with Goldust. They send him into the corner, then send Rowan into the corner. Rowan sends Goldy back, right into a hard clothesline! Splash from Rowan onto Goldust! ouch.

Cole is left withou a chair. haha.

We get a near-30 minute recap of Brock’s receiving of the new title. No, seriously, it’s like the entire promo and then some.

Before the match can start proper, Orton is at the top of the ramp, heading down slowly. Don’t worry, Reigns, if history is correct, you got a good ten minutes.

Match 6: Roman Reigns vs The Miz
Miz tries to attack, but Reigns grabs the face and sends Miz away. He corners Miz and tries to mount, but Miz slinks out. Reigns heads to the outside and hits a clothesline to Miz. Reigns sends Miz back in the ring as Orton circles the ring. Miz attacks after the distraction, and hits hard rights, then some knees. Reigns gets Miz atop his shoulders, tohugh, and hits a Samoan Drop! Orton tries to get in the ring, and Reigns sees, turns towards him! Miz attacks off the distraction again! Right to the shoulders, then a hard boot to the face! Right hands to the floored Reigns followed by another boot to the face!

Miz stalks Reigns a bit, then sets up for the Skull Crushing Finale. Reigns elbows out of it then hits a spear! Pin for 1…2…3!!!

Orton seems shocked. He heads up the steps and looks to enter the ring. He takes his time, then enters. Orton attacks!!! Nice! They exchange blows! Reigns gets him in the corner, Orton fights back. WE get a back and forth. Orton hits an uppercut the nclotheslines Reigns over the tope rope! Orton tries to send Reigns into the steps but Reigns reverses and sends Orton instead. Orton sends Reigns into the barricade, but he fires back with a hard right. They are beatin each other’s asses. Reigns sends Orton onto the German announce table. Thumb to the eye by Orton! Orton grabs a chair, and attacks the midsection then the back of Reigns. Orton sends the chair into the ring. Orton sends Roman in after, then heads in himself. Reigns gets a chant. Orton sets the chair up, presumably for the RKO. He lifts Reigns. Reigns with an uppercut! He grabs the chair himself! Chairshot to the gut, then to the back! Reigns tosses the chair to the outside! Superman Punch!! RIGHT TO THE JAW!!! Orton rolls out of the ring, and crawls back up the ramp as Reigns stands tall.

That actually picked things up a notch.
