411’s WWE Superstars Report 11.20.14

Hello and welcome to the return of the Superstars Report on 411Mania. Superstars is in Norfolk Virginia, and is hosted by Renee Young and Tom Phillips. The show this week is built around two rematches one involving divas the other involving a second generation wrestler trying to escape the shadow of his father facing off against one half of the NXT tag team champions. The show starts with Paige against her former ally Alicia Fox.

Alicia Fox vs. Paige
Paige starts the match with a knee strike to Alicia Fox’s gut. She then Irish whips Fox but is met with a swift dropkick by Fox. Paige repeats the initial exchange with another knee strike and another Irish whip but Fox this time changes things up with a sunset flip. This gets a two count. Alicia charges at Paige but is met with a heel kick. Paige then sends Fox to the corner and repeatedly kicks Fox. Paige follows this by trying to choke out Fox on the ropes and literally uses her head against Fox. With Fox down near the ring apron Paige charges at her several times with her knee. Paige than screams like a banshee and pins Alicia Fox but only gets a two count. Paige follows this by forcing Fox up while maliciously standing on Fox’s hair. Paige follows than wears down Fox with a chin lock. Alicia tries to power out only for Paige to strike Fox with a knee to the back. Paige continues to work on Fox’s back until she is met with an arm drag by Fox. Fox gives Paige a kick of her own which is naturally followed by a drop kick. Fox connects with a huge tilt a whirl backbreaker and gets a two count. Alicia Fox confuses herself either with AJ Styles or Prime Time Elix Skipper by telling Paige that this is her house. Paige answers this with an Irish whip. Fox tries to counter but ends up being hit with an elbow and than the RamPaige. Paige pins Fox and gets the 1….2…3.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Paige @ 4:10 via Pin
RATING – **: Decent match with Paige striving to stay relevant while Fox was trying to make a name off of Paige. Paige once again showed why she is an incredibly vital asset to the divas division by taking control of the match early and never really letting up. Fox proved to be incredibly versatile, and stayed with Paige move for move, but ultimately this match was perhaps a sign that the Fox, Paige storyline is nearing its conclusion with Paige emerging victorious.

* Curtis Axel is interviewed prior to his match and ponders if Sin Cara is physically confused and is hiding certain features behind his mask. Curtis Axel closes by stating that this is a bad man’s world and he is the baddest one in it.

Curtis Axel vs. Sin Cara
The two start off trying to force one another into a grapple. Cara shifts this into a wristlock working the arm of Axel. This is followed by a hip toss from Sin Cara. The two than exchange rest holds with Axel quickly finishing that series with a clothesline to Sin Cara. Axel follows that by choking Sin Cara on the ropes and then ramming him against the corner. Axel tries to strike Sin Cara, but his attempt is blocked. Axel tries to charge at Cara again but misses and ends up going over the top rope. Sin Cara tries to go high risk with a moonsault attempt to the outside, but Axel quickly dodges that bullet by going back into the ring. Cara goes aerial again and this time connects with a nice flying cross body for a two count. Cara follows this by again working the arm of Curtis Axel as we head to a commercial break. Sin Cara is still working the arm of Curtis Axel when we return from the break. Sin Cara goes for a head scissors but ends up hitting the mat face first. Axel than Irish whips Cara into the corner. and attacks the shoulder of Sin Cara. Axel follows that by striking Cara with kicks and elbows in the corner. Axel than locks in a rear chin lock on Sin Cara. Axel quickly sends Sin Cara back to the corner only for Cara to get back on the offense and attack Axel with a swift enzuigiri. Cara follows this by launching at Axel with a flying cross body by launching himself on the ropes. Cara goes for another head scissors and connects this time. Axel sends Sin Cara to the ring apron only to be met with another enzuigiri. This sends Axel outside the ring. Cara flies at Axel with a cross body to the outside, classic WCW cruiserweight style. WIth the two men back in the ring. Sin Cara pins Axel but only gets a two count. Axel answers this by missing a clothesline but nailing the back of Cara’s head. Axel hits a running knee strike and pins Sin Cara for a two count. Cara than hits multiple forearms from the ring apron with Axel trapped between the ropes. Cara hits a flying legdrop on a trapped Axel. With Axel flat on the mat Sin Cara hits the Fallen Star finisher which indeed finishes Axel for the three count and the win.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Sin Cara @ 9:40 via pin
RATING – **1/2: Decent back and forth action which unfortunately signals Curtis Axel going the opposite direction of his Rybaxel partner Ryback. Sin Cara while victorious still needs a signature win to truly put himself back on the wrestling map. Sin Cara’s momentum for the week however is up and it seems that he is slowly becoming a relevant part of the WWE roster once again, in similar fashion to Tyson Kid through NXT.

Overall Show Thoughts: Fun show with two brief but thoroughly enjoyable matches. Sin Cara could soon be a vital player in the tag team division once Kalisto is called up the main roster. Paige and Alicia Fox had a decent but all too short rivalry, and both will need a clearer direction going forward if the two are to remain solid contributors to the WWE product. Superstars was decent this week and deserves a look for fans of Paige, high flying offense, or just for the cutaway segments building up for those who missed Raw but want to view Survivor Series.
