411’s WWE Table for 3: Team ECK Report

-Original air date: May 1, 2017

-It didn’t take long for the WWE to get Angle involved in one of these and it is pretty sweet he is together again with Edge and Christian. These 3 were gold in the Attitude Era and should be a great compliment to the Edge, Foley, Christian one that was done last year.

-Edge brings up that it has been over 15 years since Team ECK started and this is the first time they have all been together since 2004. Christian brings up the elephant in the room: He and Edge aren’t inducting Kurt into the WWE Hall of Fame. They show pieces of Cena’s speech induction speech and Kurt says it was surprising. Kurt jokes they were in the Top 50 on his list and they make jokes about Rhyno.

-Christian says Rhyno is banned from his rental car for life. He tells the story of why of how Rhyno was allowed back in his car. Apparently Christian was going to let him back if he paid for the car, all the meals, and the hotel. Rhyno ended up getting a ride with Molly Holly.

-They talk about eating at a diner where they always ordered more food than they could eat. Edge calls Christian a wild animal when he eats as he doesn’t chew and just chokes it down like a snake.

-Edge brings up that he traveled in a car for a period with Angle and Brock which made him feel safe. They discuss the eating habits of Brock as he consumed 15,000 calories a day.

-Angle says that when he took his first bump he told his manager that he couldn’t do this. Edge and Christian talk about how they trained in a boxing ring, and it felt like they had to puke and Edge was worried he was going to shit his pants. Christian says he learned early that he couldn’t work without elbow pads. Angle talks about how you learn you only have so many bumps in a career and he thinks about the 300 a day he had to do in training.

-They ask Angle if he grew up watching wrestling and he says he didn’t until he took his first bump. He was training and learning in a group with Christian, The Hardys, and Test. They all knew Kurt was new to the business so they tried to include him. Christian got the chance to have Kurt’s first match and it blew Kurt’s mind when Christian said he would talk to him out there and maybe even crack some jokes.

-Edge and Angle bond over the matches they had with each other. Those matches were huge in helping put Edge on the map as a singles competitor. They talk about the night Edge shaved Kurt’s head and Angle jokes it has never come back. Christian says that Kurt with hair is what looks weird now.

-Christian tells a story about seeing if Kurt would let him take him down in front of the boys to show he had some cred. The idea was that Christian would then let Kurt take him down a few times later, and Kurt laughed at Christian saying “I will LET you take me down” as if he couldn’t do it anytime he wanted. Kurt passed on the idea obviously.

“I was already under a developmental contract at the time and they were just bringing me back monthly to figure out if I was ready to go up to the main roster. Angle never had a pro wrestling match at that time. Like, I remember getting in there and doing the basic lockups and grabbing the arm, just basic things that you learn very early on. And sometimes it takes guys are long time to pick those types of things up and I remember, boom, the first time Angle had it. Every time, Angle had it and I remember thinking to myself, ‘my God, this guy is a natural.’

To me, that was a huge honor. First of all, for me, they trusted me to be the guy to come in there and have a match with [Angle]. I was like, ‘don’t worry, you always know what you’re doing out there. I’m going to talk to you’ and Angle is like, ‘what? Don’t do that.’ I was like, ‘what do you mean?’ ‘You can’t talk.’ I was like, ‘yeah, I might even tell you a joke’ and now he has got his hands here over his face, ‘please, don’t make me laugh. Please, don’t talk to me.'”

-They discuss the comedy stuff and that was an amazing side of Kurt that nobody expected. I remember seeing him doing sports on the news in Pittsburgh and he will tell you how bad he was. Yet he became amazing in promos and backstage skits in short time.

-They discuss being fathers and Kurt says he tapped out at 5 kids. He wanted 6, but he jokes he is 93 years old and can’t now. Kurt says he spent so much time on the road that he missed a lot and once he got sober he got to be the father he always wanted to be. Christian says that is part of the reason he and his wife waited as he wanted to make sure it was when he had time to be home. They talk about Kurt’s kids being old enough to understand the Hall of Fame, and Edge says his kids are just on the cusp of understanding, but still find it weird. They show Angle thanking his kids at the HOF and then they discuss how difficult it is to find names for children. Angle wants to steal the name of Christian’s daughter for his next kid and Christian jokes that since Angle is so old he will forget it anyway. Ha!

-Edge talks about how weird it is to be at a place where he had to retire early and is in the HOF while Kurt is about to go in the Hall. Before he can finish Christian points out he isn’t in the Hall and Kurt tells him that he will be one day. Edge says that would be a different Table for 3 if Christian was in the Hall, but his main point is that they are here talking about their kids.

-Edge brings up that he and Christian created the “You Suck” chant. Angle says that is one of the best things that ever happened to him. That brings up mention of the kazoos and they lose it talking about them and how Kurt always reacted. They were having fun and the audience realized it and it became infectious. They show the “Jug band” 3 second pose which is just classic. For Kurt it became so much fun that he couldn’t wait to get to work to see what they were going to do.

-Their favorite moment is the chicken suit as Christian was working out in a chicken suit to cut weight to be a cruiserweight. Angle’s reaction when he says “Hey, my chicken suit” is still hilarious. They close the show by playing kazoos to Angle’s theme. That put the biggest smile on my face and was a great way to end this one.

-This was just a fun episode that while light on anything news worthy was a blast to watch. Sometimes it is fun just watching 3 friends have a reunion and have fun talking about the old days.
