411’s WWE Table for 3: WrestleMania Legends Report

-The Powers to Be, right here on 411mania, asked me if I could cover all the episodes of Table for 3 on the WWE Network, and since I’ve already seen all of them I figured it would be fun to go back and take another look. For those unfamiliar this is one of the shows made specifically for the WWE Network. They take 3 people who share some kind of bond and have them sit down for a breakfast/dinner while a camera records them shooting the breeze. By now with all that I have covered from The Network you should know I enjoy listening to wrestlers tell old war stories, so this show is gold.

-We start with the first episode (naturally) that aired on 08/06/15. The theme is WrestleMania Legends and thus we get Roddy Piper, Gene Okerlund, and Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff (all 3 in the WWE Hall of Fame).

-Gene welcomes us and tells us this is breakfast with legends. He then brings up how Piper and Wonderful were in the Main Event of Mania I. Immediately they start talking about Mr. T being there. Piper and Wonderful say it was beat into them that they had to protect the business. Piper says that T wanted to come in and play wrestler, and he and Paul couldn’t let that happen. It was their job to protect the business.

-Gene talks about how bringing in celebrities were a big part of Mania, and Piper says people like Ali didn’t get inside the ring to wrestle then. All those celebrities added to the show and didn’t take away from it. Piper felt he needed to ground T and pop him one, but realized he couldn’t do that as he had a job to do.

-They talk about the idea of wrestling being fake and Piper says they are action superstars. Paul says that not everyone could pull off what they did and that they were special.

-Then they bust Gene’s chops for being the guy with all the money and that he is picking up the tab for this breakfast.

-Piper talks about how guys now have A matches, B matches, and save things for TV and PPV. He says he only has one match and that is giving all he has. They talk about a match they had with each other in Boston that was one of the best they ever had and it was only for the fans in the arena.

-Paul says it was up to all of them to help the fans get through any trouble they had in their lives. If it meant getting things thrown at them and bleeding then so be it. They all laugh about fans getting so crazy.

-Gene wants to talk about road stories, but wants them to be ones that can be told. Piper jokes that limits a lot of things, and before we can get to the story Gene’s cell phone goes off and he drops an F bomb. Awesome! Anyway, Piper tells a story from a time they were in Fresno and Piper laughs at Bob Orton being the only man to take 2 years to heal a broken arm. They left and were heading to the next town with Muraco driving. As they were driving they started to slide and got stuck on a railroad track. They decided they needed to lift up the car and told Orton to hit the gas. All that did was lead to Piper and Muraco getting pelted with pebbles. Soon a train came along and somehow it avoided the car. They went to the hotel and reported the car stolen. That led to them getting arrested by the SWAT Team as Piper was booked as a vagrant. Wonderful says he remembers that and that he is the one that bailed Piper out of jail and Roddy thanks him for it as he had forgotten about it. He says that things like that come back to him at times.

-Now Gene wants to talk about pulling ribs and he mentions Fuji and Perfect being two of the best at pulling pranks. Piper loved Curt and goes back to WCW when Sting had a trap door and Perfect knew guys were going to be hiding under the ring. He took a dump in a bag and left it there for the guys that had to be there for 3 hours.

-The guys start mooching food off Gene’s plate as they tell more prank stories. Piper talks about Johnny Valentine and how he could take a shit and always put the DQ curl on it. Piper then asks the waiter if he can put the DQ curl on anything. How can you not love this show?

-Gene starts talking to Paul and brings up his mother in law and Paul tells them that she is dead. Gene and Piper then joke that Paul has it made. We then find out that Paul got the nickname “Oscar” with the boys (as in Oscar The Grouch). Paul tells the story of getting the name as he bought a new luggage bag and when he went to retrieve it someone had put 18 different locks on it (some with a key and some with a combination). Paul loved that bag and he was beyond heated as he was out to kill someone. Piper nearly comes to tears laughing as he remembers hearing Paul going crazy over the bag. To this day nobody has come clean about pulling the prank. He did eventually find the humor in it.

-Gene brings things back to a tour they did in England in the 80s. They went to the airport and Frenchie Martin would pack marijuana, sex toys, and lingerie in the thing and then drop it in the middle of the airport to get a reaction from fans when it would open up and spill out. Tremendous!

-Piper tells the story of Mania VI when he painted himself half black. Vince got paint that wouldn’t run off when Piper started sweating and he admits to having a lackluster match. After the match the makeup lady tried to use the special solution to remove the paint, but after rubbing the same area for 10 minutes all it did was make Piper bleed. He then finds out that Andre and Skaaland threw the solution out and replaced it with water. Piper then felt the best thing to do was get hammered, so when he woke up in his room he found his door was missing and their was a cowboy hat on the floor. There was also a 4 foot Mickey Mouse that he bought for his daughter. He went to Chicago and was told he needed to check Mickey, so he bought him a first class ticket and got drunk again.

-The guys wrap things up and Gene wants to go have a cocktail as it has to be 5 o’clock somewhere.

-We get an In Memory of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper graphic as the episode closes.

-Definitely check out all these on the Network as they generally only run 20-25 minutes and have a very loose/laid back vibe.

-On the next episode, don’t you dare be sour!
