5 Amazing Moments WWE Can Still Create At WrestleMania 31

March 2, 2015 | Posted by Greg De Marco

Maybe you don’t like the main event or another aspect, but WWE WrestleMania 31 still presents several opportunities for greatness. 411Mania’s Greg DeMarco returns with his top 5 possibilities.

Roman Reigns won the 2015 Royal Rumble and defeated Daniel Bryan WWE FastLane to remain the #1 Contender and challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31. Some fans (like myself) are happy about this development, others ware furious.

But regardless of the way you feel about this match, one fact hasn’t changed…

The WWE still has some great WrestleMania Moments at their disposal, with the opportunity to make March 29, 2015 one of wrestling’s most memorable nights.

John Cena, Curtain Jerker

Roman Reigns defeating Brock Lesnar in the WrestleMania main event will show the wrestling world, once and for all, that the guard is changing at the top of the WWE. But what better way to drive that point home than to open the show with the man who stood atop the company for the better part of a decade.

Over the past ten years, John Cena has become synonymous with WWE programming. He’s been the company’s centerpiece at nearly every WrestleMania since 21, granted hundreds of Make-A-Wish requests and been THE company man. If he can’t put Roman Reigns over in the main event, then why not have him be the first man through the curtain as he enters the stadium for his match against Rusev?

He held down the midcard spot at WrestleMania XXX, and if you know anything about Vince McMahon and WrestleMania you’ll know how important the opening match is to him. It’s a spot that Vince holds dear, and a booking that any talent would feel honored to have.

Give that spot to Rusev, and give that spot to John Cena.

Finn Balor, Entrance And All

The WWE has confirmed the 2nd Annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal for WrestleMania 31. Curtis Axel, The Miz and likely winner Ryback are all confirmed entrants, leaving us another 28 to go (if we’re going with the magic number of 31 this year).

Give one spot to Finn Balor.

If last year is any indication, not everyone will get their own entrance when they enter for the battle royal. But before anyone hits the ring, let Finn Balor’s famous NXT TakeOver entrance take center stage. In a recent interview, Sami Zayn expressed that it’d be hard to do NXT on the WWE mega-scale. But you can do Finn Balor on that scale, and you can do it at WrestleMania 31.

The Six Man Ladder Match

Ladder Matches have a history in WrestleMania that dates back to the 10th edition of the “Granddaddy Of ‘Em All.” Let’s continue that tradition as the Intercontinental Championship is up for grabs in a six-man ladder match with champion Wade Barrett, Dean Ambrose, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, R-Truth (unfortunately) and Luke Harper.

Give it some time and watch them create some magic. WrestleMania’s last few Money In The Bank Ladder matches didn’t deliver (especially WrestleMania 26), and this year give the WWE a chance to reestablish the ladder match as part of WrestleMania tradition. Let them go all out, tear the house down, and have Daniel Bryan win. It’s not the main event everyone wants for the man, but it’ll allow them to celebrate with their favorite WWE superstar and get all of their “YES!” chants out.

Bray Wyatt Becomes A Legend

We’ve been headed down a path to Bray Wyatt vs. The Undertaker for a while now—one that’s upset some fans since Bray hasn’t been allowed to lose for a few month. The WWE wants him as strong as possible because, despite his advanced age and broken down state, The Undertaker is still The Undertaker.

Until WrestleMania 31, that is.

Bray Wyatt is an amazing athlete in that ring—and a great talker as well. At 27 years of age, he can be the lead heel the WWE needs for years to come. A match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania is still a special occasion, even if the Deadman lost last year.

Why? Because he lost, he didn’t die.

Now I’m not saying Bray Wyatt should actually kill the man, but he should kill his spirit. Put Bray Wyatt and The Undertaker in a Casket Match, and send The Undertaker away for good. Brock Lesnar may have ended The Streak (a moment that many would say was wasted on the current absentee WWE Word Heavyweight Champion) but Bray Wyatt can end The Undertaker.

It wouldn’t be the last we see of ‘Taker, not in the least. But it’s the last of The Deadman. Upon retirement The Undertaker should still be able to make WWE appearances. Thankfully, he has the American Bad Ass persona…motorcycle and all. He could even compete at WrestleMania 32 in the rumored-but-hopefully-not-true encounter with Sting. He just can’t be The Deadman anymore.

Bray can’t end The Streak, but he can end the legend. Let him do that at WrestleMania 31.

Seth Rollins Cashes In

Professional wrestling and sports entertainment leave very little room for originality. Gimmicks are recycled and ideas are reused. What was once The Horsemen eventually came back as Evolution. What was once the NWO later became Aces & Eights and is now Bullet Club. What’s old is new again on an annual basis in our world, and that’s perfectly okay.

But the WWE has the perfect opportunity to do something rare at WrestleMania 31—build two mega stars with one briefcase. Roman Reigns should, and in all likelihood will go over Brock Lesnar to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Reigns will have a long career with multiple title runs, including at least one lengthy one.

But not this one.

This title reign should last a few minutes at best, when Seth Rollins cashes in his Money In The Bank contract, stealing his former Shield brother’s moment in the process. Much like Daniel Bryan’s WrestleMania XXX triumph, this story has been in place since Seth Rollins destroyed The Shield from within. Roman became the next “golden boy” and all Seth did was emerge as the next great heel in the WWE. WrestleMania 31 is the place to cement both, starting with Roman’s Spear and win over Brock Lesnar and ending with Rollins’ cash in and championship theft to end the show.

It would be the third time a heel has stood tall at WrestleMania, and it could go down as the best.
