Alberto El Patron Says Paige’s Suspension Is BS, Talks WWE Departure, Working With Combate Americas, More

– Alberto El Patron appeared on Taz’s CBS Radio show this morning, discussing his WWE departure, Paige’s latest suspension and more. Here are the highlights, courtesy of Pwinsider.com

Taz told Alberto he’s been in the news “nonstop” and asked him what the deal is. Del Rio said that the name of the game is to always give the fans something to talk about.

Taz talked about Alberto’s pedigree in the business and his work in the ring and complimented him. Alberto thanked him. Taz joked that it was good that he made it to the building without being attacked. Alberto joked that’s why he has his girl [obviously a reference to Paige] with him. Alberto said the incident where he was stabbed was one of those incidents where he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He said that he had to do what he had to do as someone “disrespected his girl” and it was one of those things that happened.

Taz brought up the WWE suspension of Paige. Taz described the situation as a “little funky” and said he respects Paige’s honesty with her fan base, referring to what she wrong on Twitter. Alberto said that the fans know who they are and it was “complete BS” and they are working on “fixing it.” He said Paige called it “same crap, different day” online and that’s what it is. Taz said that he’s lived in the past with a double standard while working for WWE and the company picks and chooses who they want to bury. He said it’s a double standard and it sucks. He said he puts over the company when they do something great but he also has to call it like he sees it and there are times where there are double standards. Alberto said it drives him crazy to see people trying to keep him and Paige apart and trying to split things up. Alberto said that they are together and that’s all that matters. Taz said, “Tell people to kiss your a** bro.”

Taz said Alberto and Paige are so talented and successful individually. He said that Alberto has been all over the world and he can hardly keep up. Alberto put over the What Culture promotion and said the indy circle in the European scene is hot, mixing former WWE and TNA wrestlers with their own talents and it’s just a hot scene. Taz said that it’s hard to keep up with the scene. There are fans who think that if you are gone from WWE, it’s over and you’re gone. Alberto said that he told a WWE top executive that he lives in “a bubble” and believes that there is nothing outside WWE but Alberto proved them wrong the first time and will prove them wrong again.

Alberto talked about his WWE exit. He said that people were trying to kill his passion for the business and that’s why he decided to leave. Taz said that when you leave the company of your own accord, it burns their butts because they don’t have that power. Taz said they don’t like it when they don’t have control. Alberto said he’s grateful for WWE for giving him the chance to show what he can do, but to go from there to a place where he wasn’t happy with what he’s doing doesn’t make him happy. He spoke about his father advising him to change what he can to be happy.

Taz brought up “MMA” and said that he wanted to let Alberto talk about what he could about Combate Americas. Alberto said that he wishes he could tell everything but they are a great MMA organization. They are holding a press conference tonight to discuss his role in the company. The company is holding an event in Verona, NY this Friday. Tonight will be a VIP press conference tonight in NYC. They will be revealing their plans tonight. He said that it’s going to be really difficult to be bigger than UFC but he can see Combate Americas being the second most important fight company in the United States in less than two years.

Alberto said he would not be fighting and joked that he was way too old to fight. The organization wanted him to fight when he spoke several years ago the first time he was let go by WWE. The money offer was right and he decided to try and see if he could train for the fight. He trained for five days and on the fifth day, he was sparring in the ring, and by the end of the third right, he said “No mas” just like Roberto Duran. He realized he wasn’t hungry for it and didn’t want to jump in the cage.

Taz said it’s a lifestyle, not a job and any success comes with that. Taz brought up CM Punk being a very passionate person about MMA but it’s very tough to get in a cage. Taz said it’s hard for people to understand how rough and hard the pro wrestling business is. Alberto said that no one can teach you passion and every night you put your body on the line because you have passion for it. Taz said that when you are in the wrestling business, it can be addictive like a drug. For something that is entertainment, it is competition.

Taz said that Alberto has always been in great shape but has really leaned down. He said that he found a guy who advised him how to eat cleaner. He was always training but he ate the same way he ate when he was 20. He started seeing big results after three weeks. The two joked about how your work in the ring improves when you drop weight, cracking lines about grabbing holds because they were winded.

Alberto said he’s going to be in NY until Friday and he will be doing media the next few days. He said after their event on Friday, he is heading to Puerto Rico to work for Carlos Colon. Alberto said he would be happy to come back to promote Combate Americas once they make their big announcement. He said that he’d like to bring someone on so they could “talk crap.” Taz said she was a surprise, but she can’t come on the air. Alberto said they are “working on that.”
