Keep Refreshing For The Latest Results

We open to highlights from the excellent TakeOver: Chicago this past Saturday.

The matches for tonight were taped in Chicago before TakeOver.

Aleister Black vs. Curt Hawkins

Black beat Hawksin on Main Event two weeks ago. He flips over Hawkins and goes right into a seated position. Rollup gets two. Hawkins suplexes Black on the rope, but Black kicks him. He misses a top rope stomp but delivers a huge big boot. Hawkins fights back and goes to a cobra clutch variation of a chin lock. Black fights out the hits his finisher to win.

Winner: Aleister Black in 2:50

Footage is shown from the Tag Team Title match at TakeOver and the aftermath of Tommaso Ciampa turning on Johnny Gargano. It still breaks my heart and makes the theme song choice of “Judas” very fitting. Doctors apparently refuse to release the medical status of Gargano.

We go to Ember Moon last Saturday before the show. She sits in the stands and says she had her breakout in Orlando, but now is on the sidelines. She says something about battle scars lasting forever, but a loud ass plane passed by my house and I missed it. Footage airs of Asuka retaining her title. Kayla Braxton caught up with Asuka after the match. She asked what’s next for Asuka. Asuka says nobody can stand toe to toe with her and the Women’s Title is hers.

After clips from Strong vs. Young at TakeOver, Kayla Braxton interviewing Roderick Strong is shown. He’s the first man to pin EY. Roddy says he’s used to overcoming the odds. EY found out what happens when you bring Roddy’s family into the discussion.

Velveteen Dream vs. Robert Anthony

Velveteen Dream is Patrick Clarke. he shows off athleticism and hits a dropkick, before taunting. He fires off some strikes in the corner and shows aggression. Anthony blocks a corner shot but gets chopped and slapped for his trouble. A “Let’s go Roberts” chant starts. Dream leaps to the top and hits an overhand chop on the way down. He snaps off a neckbreaker and wins with an impressive diving elbow.

Winner: Velveteen Dream in 2:24

Now we get a recap of the incredible Pete Dunne vs. Tyler Bate match from TakeOver, which is my current MOTY. Dunne was interviewed afterwards and says that he made good on his promise. Everything is his.

A recap is shown of HIdeo Itami vs. Bobby Roode. They caught up with Roode after, who said the outcome wasn’t a surprise. Itami isn’t in his league in his opinion. Roode claims that his next challenger will be whoever he wants. He’s gonna take time to himself and decide when he returns.

Next week, Roode will host a “glorious celebration.”

Drew McIntyre vs. Wesley Blake

They go through a small grappling exchange and Drew hits a shoulder block. Drew dares him to bring it. He applies a headlock but Blake fights out. He hits a chop and talks smack, so Drew kicks the shit out of him. Drew hits a splash in the corner and a big overhead belly to belly suplex. Blake pulls Drew’s arm over the ropes and nails a clothesline. He’s in control heading to break. He focuses on the left arm and tries applying an armbar, but Drew reaches the ropes. They trade shots, with Drew’s chops being louder. He nails another big boot and goes up top, where he hits a single axe handle. Blake elbows out of a move and they trade shots again. Blake runs into a sitout powerbomb for two. Blake gets his knees up and throws Drew shoulder first into the post. A rollup gets two and he works a crossface. McIntyre fights out and hits the reverse Alabama Slam for a near fall. Blake hits a single arm DDT for his own near fall. Drew hits another overhead belly to belly to escape a top rope move. Drew delivers a brutal headbutt and the Yakuza Kick to win.

Winner: Drew McIntyre in 8:05 [*1/2]
