Csonka Reviews WWE NXT (11.06.14)

Introduction
As a reminder, this will not be another traditional recap, but instead it will be a mash up of the Rs, Instant Analysis and my usual Twitter ramblings I would do during the shows; completely uncensored and as the ideas flow unfiltered to the old keyboard. Remember, this is a review; and I am here to review the show. As always, I encourage discussion and even disagreement, just do so in a respectful manner. I will be doing the review for Raw and most PPVs and iPPVs going forward.

* They opened with a really good video package, highlighting Zayn’s difficult road to the NXT Title.

#1 Contender’s Match: Tyler Breeze vs. Sami Zayn: NXT looking to open on all cylinders this week. These guys had a great match at the NXT Takeover special, so lets see what they can do here. This all made sense, as in the video and on commentary it was played up that Zayn had not defeated Breeze. The whole story is Zayn’s road to redemption, and having to overcome the odds and foes that he previously fell short against. It was a bit slow in the middle as Breeze worked the heat, but overall a good and fun opener as they really played up that they knew each other so well. Zayn not only kicked out of the beauty kick, but he won clean and the road to redemption continues. The story is good, and while it is hard to wait for some, I am appreciating it. This was a strong way to open the show. Commentary actually seemed focused here as well, which is always a help to the story that they are trying to tell.

* Renee Young interviews Adrian Neville, who says he’ll give Zayn a title match anytime he wants. Why? Because Zayn can’t win the big one, that’s why.

Tyson Kidd vs. Dash Wilder: Kidd, as usual, worked a veteran style offense. They didn’t get much time, but what they got they worked fine. The middle was a bit off as Kidd is grounding and working a bigger opponent and doing it a bit too easily. Kidd got the clean win in what was a perfectly acceptable midcard match.

* Marcus Louis is going insane backstage because everyone is making fun of his hair that won’t grow back. That hair cream was some serious shit.

* Renee Young interviews Sami Zayn backstage. He says that he wants his title shot, and he wants it next week.

Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch vs. Bayley and Charlotte: The NXT ladies got a nice little time frame to work with, and I felt that they did really well with it. This was set up with the Becky Lynch turn on Bayley and Banks’ new focus on Charlotte and the NXT Women’s Title. I liked that they strayed from conventional tag team formula, with the long heat on Bayley, and just when you thought the hot tag was coming, Becky pulled Charlotte off the apron, allowing Banks to roll through a pinning attempt and rolling up Bayley with the tights for the win. The work was good, the match was focused and Banks is positioned as the heel that will do anything to win as she heads towards a title shot with Charlotte. It was simple, made sense and worked. That’s all I want.

* NXT GM William Regal announces that Adrian Neville will defend the NXT Title next week against Sami Zayn.

KENTA AND PRINCE DEVITT JUST DESTROYED DUDES ON WWE TV!: For weeks Hideo Itami has been having issues with the Ascension, going back to Itami’s debut on the NXT special. After last week’s beat down, Itami stated that he would be bringing a friend with him. His friend was Finn Balor, the former Prince Devitt. Itami and Balor charged the ring and laid the beat down on the former NXT Tag Team Champions. They charged, beat them down, hit the hesitation dropkick sin the corner and Balor hit double stomps and the good guys stood tall. This was an exciting and hot way to end the show, and the debut of Balor was well worth the wait. The fact that I got to watch KENTA and Prince Devitt kicking ass on WWE TV was quite the sight.

* End scene.

* Thanks for reading.

This was a very good show this week. We got good wrestling, the storylines are progressing well and Balor’s debut with the closing angle was excellent. This show was simply easy to watch, was very enjoyable and simply felt fun.
