– The opening video starts off with the Borash vs. Mathews feud; that should not be the first thing I see.

Matt Sydal vs. Eddie Edwards w/Alisha: They shake hands, and we’re friends to begin. They lock up, basic back and forth and clean breaks early. Slick and clean work early on, leading to a stand off. They picked up the pace, with Sydal hitting a RANA. The head scissors and dropkick follow, and then a running knee strike in the corner follows for 2. Sydal then worked the Muta lock, but Edwards escaped and hit the blue thunder bomb for the near fall. Edwards then lays in the chops in the corner, the back elbow connects for 2. Edwards hits the boot, but Sydal rolls him up for 2, but Edwards cuts him off with a dump suplex. Sydal hits the desperation spin kick, and then works leg kicks and a standing moonsault for 2. The RANA catches Edwards as he went up top, Sydal then hits the corner clothesline, but Edwards then sends him to the floor and hits the suicide dive. Post break, Sydal hit the backpack stunner for a near fall. Sydal then looked for a tiger bomb, but Sydal escapes and Sydal then hit the code breaker, but Sydal counters the tiger bomb into a RANA and cover for 2. Sydal sets up top, but Sydal slips out and counters the RANA. Knee strike by Sydal, up top and the shooting star press connects and Sydal wins. Matt Sydal defeated Eddie Edwards @ 14:55 via pin [***½] Very good match that was hurt a bit by the commercial, but they kept a great pace and it was refreshing to kick off the show with a fun and energetic match. Mathews was again not good here, almost ruining parts of the match. They aren’t messing around with Sydal and are making him a threat right away.

– They shake ands post match. Love & Richards attack Edwards & Alisha post match, with Richards taking out Edwards’ leg with chair shots. Alisha & Love then brawl. And that’s Edwards’ write out due to needing knee surgery.

– Magnus is interviewed backstage; he says he should main event Slammiversary. He defends against Patron next week. Matt Morgan arrives, and disagrees with Magnus. They argue and Prichard arrives and books them in a GFW title match tonight.

– KM works out and then throws trash on the floor so he can yell at a janitor. He’s such a waste of airtime.

GFW Women’s Champion Christina Von Eerie vs. Sienna w/KM: Sienna attacks right away, CVE went for some form of springboard but came up shirt; Sienna caught her with a Saito suplex and covered for 2. CVE fought back, hit a running boot but Sienna then caught her with a superkick. Sienna then dumps CVE to the floor. She follows, and they trade strikes. CVE takes control, rolls Sienna to the apron, but Sienna backdrops her to the apron and then to the floor. Back in and Sienna covers for 2. AK 47 is countered, CVE works a sleeper, but Sienna escapes. CVE goes for her straightjacket lung blower, but Sienna counters, hits the silencer and wins. Sienna defeated GFW Women’s Champion Christina Von Eerie @ 4:00 via pin [*] Not a good match, Von Eerie is just not a clean worker and that led to the match being completely disjointed, but thankfully Sienna won.

– Eli Drake complains to Prichard about not being used. He then threatens to go after Patron, who is actually behind him and accepts his challenge. He will even put his title shot on the line against him tonight.

– Borash is in the crowd by the commentary table, heckling Mathews.

– Karen Jarrett announces that next week, Alisha will face Angelina Love on Impact. Sienna arrives to talk shit to Karen about winning the GFW women’s title. Karen says she now has a target on her back, but Sienna says to line them up because she will knock them down.

EC3 vs. John Bolen: EC3 attacks right away, and then beats him down on the corner. Good aggression by EC3, just brutally attacking Bolen and then sending him to the floor. Back in and EC3 hits the corner splash and TKO. The knee strike and one percenter finish things off. EC3 defeated John Bolen @ 2:38 via pin [NR] Good squash with EC3 being extra aggressive to reflect the heel turn.

– Post match EC3 says no one can stop him form main eventing Slammiversary and winning back the world title.

– Borash continues to heckle Mathews with various signs that say things like “Josh Sucks & P.O.S.”. Mathews is so bad at his job that when he’s not ruining the product “playing bad guy” he’s calling Patron Del Rio on air.

GFW Title Match: Champion Magnus vs. Matt Morgan: Morgan relied on his power advantage early, Magnus tried to pick up the pace, but Morgan cut him off with a shoulder block. Magnus took a powder, Morgan followed but got posted right away. DEAR JOSH MATHEWS SHUT THE FUCK UP. Seriously, it’s not like the match here is good so far, but Mathews is actually making it feel much worse than it is because he’s adding nothing to it. Morgan misses a boot, allowing Magnus to chop block the knee and then follow up with attacks to the knee. Morgan fought off the cloverleaf, but Magnus then locked in the figure four. Morgan reversed it, but Magnus made the ropes. Morgan fought back with strikes, a clothesline and then another. The corner elbows followed, and then a corner splash and side slam. Magnus kicked the knee, headed up top and leaped into a chokeslam for 2 as Magnus got a foot on the ropes. Morgan then hit the carbon footprint, but Magnus rolled to the floor. He grabs thee GFW belt, the ref takes it and he low blows Morgan and hit the Michinoku driver and top rope elbow for the win. Champion Magnus defeated Matt Morgan @ 9:35 via pin [**] This was a completely bland match, devoid of fun, drama and excitement.

– Lashley is interviewed, and says that the others are fighting over the GFW title because that’s all that they attain. They are all losers, he plans to sit back and wait them out, and will now go to train so that he can pick off the winner with ease. Basically, Lashley doesn’t give a fuck about the GFW title.

– Mathews argues with Borash again.

– We head to the LAX clubhouse. They fake being sad about Decay and then laugh it off and have drinks. Konnan says they should have a funeral for “them bitches” next week, so that they can show the proper respect.

– We get a Rockstar Spud video package, showing him wheelchair bound and essentially addicted to painkillers after Swoggle’s attack last week. Yup.

Kongo Kong vs. William Weeks: laurel Van Mess is with Kong. Lauren demanded that Kong kill him, so he delivered head butts, laid the boots to him and then hit the corner splash and lariat. Kong then killed Weeks with a choke breaker and then another. A third choke breaker and cannonball both connected. Kong then hit the top rope splash to finally put away this poor bastard. Kongo Kong defeated William Weeks @ 2:45 via pin [NR] A beautiful squash.

– Sutter and Allie arrive, Sutter attacks and sends Kong to the floor. Laurel hold him back and tells him “not now.”

Alberto El Patron vs. Eli Drake w/Tyrus: El Patron’s GFW title shot (scheduled for next week) is on the line here. El Patron controlled early, chasing Drake up the ram and then dragging him back to ringside and sending him into the steps. The ref then tossed Tyrus to the back after tripping up El Patron. Drake took control ad they battled on the floor and hit a suplex onto the ramp. They worked back into the ring, but El Patron sent Drake back to the floor and hit a suicide dive to send us to the break. Post break, El Patron was in control, working mounted rights. Drake battled back, and hit a back suplex onto the apron to cut off El Patron and take control. Back in the ring, Drake looks to ground El Patron but El Patron battles back, and gets the hanging arm bar to slow Drake down. Back in and Drake hits a neck breaker for 2. After some back and forth, Drake sidesteps El Patron and El Patron flies through the ropes and to the floor. Back in, Drake looked to head up top and finish off El Patron, but El Patron hit the run up enziguri to cut him off. Drake fired up with strikes, working over El Patron in the corner but El Patron hit a series of clotheslines and hit a tilt a whirl back breaker for 2. Drake then hit a TKO for a near fall. El Patron then cuts off Drake with a single arm DDT and then a superkick for 2. Drake fights off the arm bar into an amateur style throw and slam. They worked up top, but El Patron fights Drake off and into the tree of WHOA; Drake hooks the kneepad and tosses El Patron to the mat. Drake slips on a springboard attempt, but then hits a moonsault press for 2. El Patron counters the kryptonite krunch and then rolls for the arm bar. Drake stomps his way out, but El Patron the takes him to the ropes and hits the double stomp for the win. Alberto El Patron defeated Eli Drake @ 18:05 via pin [***¼] This was an overall good main event, and I felt that they were on their way to something really good but the Drake slip and flat finish (the Patron double stomp set up and execution is no good) held it back a bit. I was pleasantly surprised with the match, because Patron does very little to make me care these days. Drake looked like a man trying to prove a point, putting in a really strong performance.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

Overall I felt that this week’s episode was really solid; the show had strong bookends, with Sydal vs. Edwards & Drake vs. el Patron being quality TV bouts that are worth your time. I also think that the stuff around the world title, trying to make the GFW title seem important and the way to get to Lashley, the Impact world title and the Slammiversary main event. There was a lot of focus around that tonight, which makes for a nice centerpiece of the programming. Much like the last few weeks, the show is rock solid and gives you a few things that are worth your time, but it still feels like they haven’t fully locked in on an identity; right now the show is still a TNA/GFW hybrid, but I am still waiting for the show to be Impact Wrestling, whatever that will be.
