Csonka’s Lucha Underground Review 12.14.16 (Battle of the Bulls [Part II])

OFFICIAL RESULTS
Battle of the Bulls Tournament Match: Jeremiah Crane defeated Killshot, Dante Fox and Mariposa @ 11:00 via pin [***¼]
Drago defeated Kobra Moon @ 2:45 via DQ [NR]
Battle of the Bulls Tournament Match: PJ Black defeated Son Of Havoc, Jack Evans and Angelico @ 8:45 via pin [***]

Jeremiah Crane defeated Killshot, Dante Fox and Mariposa: Killshot ran wild with kicks early, scoring a near fall on Crane. Mariposa started to put some offense together, Fox hit a dive onto Killshot and then another. Missile dropkick by Mariposa to Fox, and then a high cross to the floor. Crane returned, attacking Fox and then getting chairs and tossing them into the ring. He sets up a pile of chairs, leading to Killshot being superplexed onto the chairs. Mariposa then killed folks with chair shots and hit Killshot with a vertebreaker onto a chair. It broke down, some really fun stuff from Killshot and Fox, keeping that rivalry going. Killshot sent Fox into a chair and then hit the reverse RANA for a near fall. Crane then hit the DVD on Killshot, followed by the sitout powerbomb and then locked in the stump puller. Mariposa hit the stunner on Killshot. Fox saved Killshot because this is one fall to a finish, Crane then got taken out by Fox, Fox hits Lo Mein pain for the near fall and hits the Crane driller for the win. Jeremiah Crane defeated Killshot, Dante Fox and Mariposa @ 11:00 via pin [***¼] Good opener there, with a ton of energy, but it felt as if they relied on the chairs too much mid-match, causing it to slow down and lose momentum.

– Post match, Killshot and Fox brawled, with Killshot hitting the double stomp to stand tall.

– Taya filmed Mundo and crew. We then see Sexy Star preparing for her rematch with Mundo. She then gets freaked out by a spider in her locker.

Drago defeated Kobra Moon: They have been setting this up for weeks, as Drago left the tribe. We got some basic back and forth; Drago hits the dropkick and then a clothesline and running kick. Moon fights back, neck breaker by Drago and then hits the powerbomb. A superkick follows and Moon is down, but Lizard man (from last week) arrives and attacks. Fenix and Aerostar make the save. Dinosaur man (from last week) arrives, he’s a big dude and cleans house. Drago defeated Kobra Moon @ 2:45 via pin [NR] Lucha-sauraus tombstones Drago to end the segment. The match was nothing, but was good to advance the angle and set up a new trios title program.

– Mariposa and Sexy Star brawl backstage. Star accuses her of putting the spider in her locker and threatens to kill her. Star punches a hole in the wall as Mariposa moves.

PJ Black defeated Son Of Havoc, Jack Evans and Angelico @ 8:45 via pin: This is a good set of opponents, as they previously feuded over the trios titles. It also works because Angelico wants revenge against Mundo and his buddies. Angelico and Havoc worked some back and forth, leading to an Angelico dive. I like that they didn’t stick to working with their partners and mixed it up more than you’d think. Havoc hit the double jump double stomp and then brawled with Angelico. These guys work great together as a team as well as against each other, so effortless. Evans and Black returned, tossing Havoc to the floor. Angelico then had to fight off both Black and Evans. Evans countered the razor’s edge, Havoc back in with a double stomp and it broke down. Black and Evans hit a doomsday device on Havoc, but Havoc countered with the reverse RANA. Dive by Havoc and then one from Angelico after they teased a tower of doom. Jumping knee strike by Angelico, up top and Evans tosses him to the floor. Black then tells Evans to pin him, but Black was sneaky and rolled him up for the win. Evans then proclaimed, “HE TEA BAGGED ME!” PJ Black defeated Son Of Havoc, Jack Evans and Angelico @ 8:45 via pin [***] This was another good match, and I am glad they didn’t go with the obvious Azteca win.

– Dragon Azteca Jr. meets with Rey, and they discuss Matanza. Rey says Matanza is too strong and that Azteca can’t win, and that it’s his fight. Azteca says he is building his own legacy, and that he will take Matanza’s life. Well that escalated quickly.

– The Battle of the Bulls Tournament finals will be Cage, The Mack, Jeremiah Crane and PJ Black. The winner gets a shot at the Lucha Underground Title.

This was another good episode as it feels like Lucha Underground is getting back in as groove. The Battle of the Bulls Tournament has been good and the stories feel as if they are falling into place very well.
