Csonka’s Lucha Underground Review 5.18.16 – (Season 2, Episode 17) Crime and Punishment
OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Daga defeated Argenis, Kobra Moon and Mascarita Sagrada @ 5:03 via pin [**½]
– Killshot defeated Marty the Moth @ 7:15 via pin [***]
– Gift of the Gods Title Match: Chavo Guerrero defeated Joey Ryan, Sexy Star, Siniestro de la Muerte, The Mack, Texano and Aerostar @ 8:33 via pin [***]
– We get the usual video package to kick off the show.
– El Jefe Dario Cueto is loading some cash into a satchel as Cage arrives. Cage is pissed that Chavo Guerrero stole his medallion, and Jefe says that if Chavo puts the medallion into the title, he gets into the match so the better get it back. He then invited Cage to head to the ring with him for the title ceremony. The wrestlers come out and put their medallions into the GOTG title; Texano, Joey, Ryan, Siniestro de la Muerte, Aerostar, The Mack and Sexy Star all arrive and place their medallions. Dario was hilarious during this, “It’s ok Mack, circles go in circles.” Cage then awaited Chavo to arrive and place his medallion. Chavo arrived with the medallion and a steel chair, so Dario left them to fight it out. Cage beat him down and took the medallion, or so he thought, Chavo had placed a dummy in the bag (a giant washer ring) and worked over Cage with the chair, produced the real medallion and is in the match. Dario wasn’t exactly heart broken about this, and Cage took out Chavo with weapon X. WWE has made me loathe almost any and all opening talking segments, because they happen on every show and they all feel the same. This I was perfectly fine with. Lucha Underground rarely does them; this was specifically designed to set up the main event, which has played off of weeks of matches, and also the Cage vs. Chavo angle. Chavo is a dick and Cage is on the outside looking in. It worked, it made sense and I liked it.

– Famous B did a long and completely over the top for his boy Mascarita Sagrada.
Argenis vs. Daga vs. Kobra Moon vs. Mascarita Sagrada w/Famous B and Brenda: Sagrada sent Moon to the floor and then ran wild for a bit, but Moon cut him off and they tried to do spots. Moon hit a Michinoku driver, but Daga stopped that and he and Argenis worked for a bit and spilled to the floor. Sagrada worked a short arm bar (SORRY) on Argenis, who then did the Backlund power out into the powerbomb, but Daga made the save. Daga is really fun, working with a ton of energy and a lot of crispness to his work. He did a wacky double sub mission spot on Argenis and Moon, but Sagrada broke that up. Moon then spiked Sagrada with an emerald frosion, and then backed off and allowed Daga to score the win. She has the sexies for Daga, but Daga isn’t too into the snake lady. This was a rock solid match, not great, but far from bad; they had some flow issues and it felt rushed at times. Famous B is fun talking junk at ringside and it appears as if we have just started a new angle between Daga and Moon.

– We see Killshot preparing in the back, and Marty The Moth creeps on him, because that’s what Marty does. This of course leads to a kung-fu style fight scene as Marty laughs maniacally as he gets his ass beat.
Killshot vs. Marty The Moth: Marty made the mistake of making gun motions at a man named Killshot. Marty would toss Killshot to the floor, fake a dive and flip off the crowd. Killshot fought back, but when he went for his dive, he got caught and then powerslammed on the floor. Marty slowly worked over Killshot with suplexes, but he took too much time posing and ate a superkick. Killshot made his comeback, landing a jumping sidekick and cutter for a near fall. Marty cut off Killshot, they brawled to the floor and then to the apron, with Killshot hitting a Death Valley driver onto the apron. They did a double count out tease, and then picked up the action with some great strikes and a curb stomp from Marty for a near fall. Killshot then finished it with the Storm cradle driver. It started slowly, but picked up well and was a good mach overall.
– Post match Marty attacked Killshot and beat him down on the floor. He then stole Killshot’s dog tags and hit another curb stomp. This feud will continue.

Gift of the Gods Title Match: Joey Ryan vs. Sexy Star vs. Siniestro de la Muerte vs. The Mack vs. Texano vs. Aerostar vs. Chavo Guerrero: Chavo ran away at the bell, leading to a series of kicks and then Ryan and Star going one on one for a bit. Chavo and Ryan tried to work together, Star fought back and then worked with her friend the Mack. This was a lot of one on one pairings, with people going in and out quickly. On one hand it kept the action moving, but on the other hand it made it hard to get into early on. We got some dives and near falls after that, the work is good and pretty effortless here, which makes this easy to watch. Star and Mack worked over Ryan together, but Chavo finally returned to sneak attack them and hit a frog splash for a near fall. The crowd is really good here, but they hate Chavo, which I find amusing. Everyone finally got in and they all attacked Chavo and hit their finishes on him. Cage then arrived and then he started to attack everyone and toss them to the floor. The crowd did the stomps to the terminator theme as he destroyed everyone. Cage hit the Steiner screwdriver on Ryan and put Chavo on Ryan so he could win. I get what they are going for, and from an angle perspective it makes sense, but I also felt that it hurt that match, which was really starting to pick up. They ended up delivering the kind of style they needed to in order to make the match work, but it never got to the levels of last year’s match. It was a good, but not great main event.
That's probably not the first time all @JoeyRyanOnline’s blood rushed to his head during a match. #LuchaUnderground pic.twitter.com/Mq09jYlGOX

– Chavo is the new Gift of the Gods champion, which entitles him to a title shot when he wants it, but he has to give Dario Cueto at east one week to promote it. BUUUUUUUUUT… Cage announces that Dario Cueto is making Chavo defend the title against him next week.
– We see Vampiro torturing Pentagon, noting that the monster broke him and that he must break him again to make him whole. He had Pentagon hanging in some torture swing and beat on him with a kendo stick as he monologued about the weak. Vampiro explained that this is nothing compared to what Matanza did to him. He then grabbed a barbed wire baseball bat and as he went to continue the beating, we faded to black…
