Lucha Underground 7.08.15 – Episode 35: Fuel to the Fire

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– The Mack defeated Cage @ 4:10 via pin [***]
– Mil Muertes defeated Son of Havoc @ 7:06 via pin [***¼]
– Johnny Mundo, Hernandez, Jack Evans, and Super Fly defeated Alberto El Patron, Aerostar, Drago and Sexy Star @ 9:25 via pin [***¾]

* Pentagon Jr is in his master’s dojo, discussing his issues with Vampiro. The Master wants a sacrifice, and even though Pentagon Jr doesn’t think Vampiro is the man he used to be, he promises to make “Ian Hodgkinson” a sacrifice to the Master.

Cage vs. The Mack: These guys have had issues for a while. It started in a big multi-person Aztec Medallion match, and then led to a backstage confrontation when Delavar Davari was looking for a third man to challenge for the trios titles. Mack is Big Ryck’s cousin and said he’d be good for them, but Cage arrived and kicked the shit out of Mack, and he took the spot. Two weeks ago they were involved in another Aztec Medallion match, where the essentially took each other out, allowing Aerostar to pick up the win and Medallion. They rightfully started to brawl right away, and then broke into some fast paced, lucha style offense before settling into a regular style match. This didn’t last long, but they made the best of the time given and worked at a tremendous pace and it was constantly entertaining. Mack scored the win with a slick roll up, becoming only the second man to pin Cage in LU. This isn’t over.

* Catrina met with Havoc, doing her mystical appearing act. She said her Disciples of Death will be after the trios titles, but as for tonight, 1000 deaths are coming his way. Ivelisse arrives and told her to shut up, but when she went to attack Catrina disappeared and the lights went out. When they came back on, Ivelisse had full mount on Havoc and Angelico arrived and joked about them getting back together. They continue to be gloriously dysfunctional.

* They hype Johnny Mundo vs. Alberto El Patron for Ultima Lucha on August 5th. Puma will also defend his title against Mil Muertes in the main event.

* Vampiro has a sitdown interview with Pentagon Jr.. Vampiro tried to apologize for his actions, noting that his time has come and gone. He then asks who the master is, and Pentagon refuses to answer. Vampiro then discusses Pentagon’s path of destruction, and says Pentagon reminds him of himself. Pentagon says Vampiro is now a coward, and Vampiro says not to disrespect him because he will throw down. Vampiro says he is a better man now, and he has moved on. Pentagon challenges him to a match at Ultima Lucha, and calls Vampiro weak and pathetic. Pentagon gets in his face, and then leaves leaving Vampiro pissed off. Again, I am not a fan of seeing Vampiro wrestle in 2015, but they are doing a very good job of setting this up.

Mil Muertes w/Catrina vs. Son of Havoc w/Ivelisse & Angelico: Havoc looks like Muertes’ little brother here. Havoc tried to use his speed with a lot of hit and run offense, but Muertes took over with the power game and started to beat down Havoc on the floor. Muertes then powerbombed Havoc on the announce table, similar to what he did to Fenix. They eventually went back to the ring, which led to havoc making a comeback and hitting a dive onto Muertes. He then hit the double stomp and standing moonsault, but only got a 1 count. Havoc worked in some good counters, and looked competitive for a bit, which is good. Havoc missed the shooting star press, as Catrina tried to seduce Angelico. Ivelisse put a stop to that but the Disciples of Death appeared and beat down Angelico as Catrina choked out Ivelisse. Havoc made the save with a big dive, but then Muertes hit the spear and flatliner for the win. Muertes as the title challenger wins, which he should, and the whole thing also sets up Catrina sending her Disciples of Death after the trios titles. This was another good and entertaining match and overall presentation. Catrina gave Havoc the lick of death post match as Muertes and the Disciples stood tall.

* Texano is out for a promo now. Texano loves Mexico, and loves hurting people and breaking their asses. He can he over the top and can’t even be trusted by his own family, but he never turns on his people. He may not like the people that Chavo disrespected, but he hates Chavo for what he did. He challenges Chavo to come out, but the Crew attacks. They beat him down, but Blue Demon Jr makes the save. But the Crew tosses him a chair, and IT’S A TRAP as he attacks Texano! Texano is busted open and Blue Demon Jr lays the boots to him and then beats him down with the kendo stick. Demon says Texano is not Mexico, HE is Mexico. He then challenges Texano to a match at Ultima Lucha. Good segment, especially since hey had to change direction due to Chavo’s legit leg injury.

* Hernandez vs. Drago is set for Ultima Lucha.

Captain Alberto El Patron, Aerostar, Drago and Sexy Star vs. Captain Johnny Mundo, Hernandez, Jack Evans, and Super Fly:The match ends when either the captain or two of his team lose. They picked great teams here, keeping it simple to guys feuding and then adding Aerostar and Evans, who both have Aztec Medallions. This was so much fun, as not only did they advance the issues between the participants, but there was some simply spectacular action in the match. The pace was great, there were some spectacular dives and again I loved that this helped to build to the future matches, without burning out singles encounters. Mundo acting cocky against everyone until Patron would get involved was well done as well. This was close to the recent ROH six-mans in terms of great action. Jack Evans is also a freak as far as his athletic selling goes. They also did a really good job of allowing everyone to shine during the match. Patron had the arm bar on Evans late, but Mundo then hit the end of the world to break it up. He then caught Sexy Star on a high cross attempt, and rolled through with the tights to secure the win. This was really fun and a good way to close a strong show in the ring.

* Post match Striker is discussing that Puma and Muertes will have a confrontation next week But Pentagon Jr attacks Vampiro! He beats his ass and poured gasoline on him and threatens to light him on fire if he doesn’t accept his challenge for Ultima Lucha so that he can sacrifice him to his Master. He gave him one week to accept. Pentagon Jr is awesome.

* End scene.

* Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Very Good
The 411
While there was no great wrestling tonight, the wrestling we got was really good and most importantly the entire show was focused on the build to Ultima Lucha. The show was completely focused with no wasted energy to segment, and they continue to do episodic TV the right way. Overall this was a very good show tonight, especially if you’re a weekly viewer as you’ll really appreciate the storytelling.
