– Matches were taped prior to Saturday’s awesome NXT Takeover: Chicago event. We start with highlights from that show.

Aleister Black vs. Curt Hawkins: Hawkins attacks at the bell, but Black quickly fights back, hitting a knee strike. Kicks follow, Black up top and leaps over Hawkins, hits the knee strike and then looked for Black Mass, but Hawkins ran way. Hawkins managed to slam Black to the apron, and actually took control back in the ring. Black quickly fired back with kicks and a moonsault press. Black Mass ends Hawkins. Aleister Black defeated Curt Hawkins @ 2:50 via pin [NR] This is the second meeting between the two, and I could watch Black kick Hawkins’ head off all day long. Black is so much fun to watch.

– We get highlights from DIY vs. AOP from awesome NXT Takeover: Chicago. We also get footage of Ciampa’s turn and beat down on Gargano. #DIWhyyyyyyyyyyy?

– We get an Ember Moon promo, discussing being injured and having to miss Takeover

– Next is a recap of Asuka vs. Riot vs. Cross from awesome NXT Takeover: Chicago.

– We get an interview with Asuka after her title defense. She says no one can go toe to toe with her.

– Next is a recap of Strong vs. Young from awesome NXT Takeover: Chicago.

– We get an interview with Strong after his win, saying that overcoming the odds is something he’s done his entire life. They brought his family into it, and there was nothing that would stop him from ending Young. He is focused on the NXT title.

The Veleteen Dream Patrick Clark vs. Robert Anthony: Clark controls early, hitting a dropkick. Anthony fires back with rights, but Clark takes him to the corner, works him over with rights and follows with a Thesz press and then chokes out Anthony in the ropes. Strikes and chops by Clark in the corner follow, the crowd chants for the jobber as Clark jumps to the top and hits a clothesline on Anthony. Clark hits the neck breaker, heads up top and follows with the top rope elbow drop. The Veleteen Dream Patrick Clark defeated Robert Anthony @ 2:28 via pin [NR] Clark looked improved over past performances here, which is good to see. It was a short and dominant win, which it should have been, but it’s too early to judge Clark and the character at this point. We’ll see what kind of legs it has as we move forward.

– Next is a recap the AMAZING Bate vs. Dunne match from awesome NXT Takeover: Chicago.

– We get an interview with Dunne, who says he has watched Bate live a dream with a title that was really his. And now, everything is his.

– Next is a recap of Roode vs. Itami from awesome NXT Takeover: Chicago.

– We get an interview with Roode, who says we shouldn’t be surprised he won. He runs down Itami for being inured, and noted that he didn’t even realize he was still around. Itami isn’t even in his league. Roode plans to go home, relax, lay by his pool and enjoy some time off. When he returns, he will decide on who his next challenger is.

– Next week, we will get a Glorious celebration from Roode.

Drew McIntyre vs. Wesley Blake: Blake is now playing the role of a 1980’s southern grappler. McIntyre overpowers early and then hits the shoulder block, taking Blake down. They work to the corner, Blake follows with strikes but McIntyre just straight up kicks him in the face and drops him. Blake fires up with elbows and strikes, clotheslines in the corner follow. McIntyre had enough of that shit, hits the overhead toss but Blake stuns his arm off the ropes and follows with a clothesline for 2. Post break, Blake is focusing his work on the arm, trying to keep McIntyre grounded. McIntyre powers out, sets him up top, but Blake hits a rolling arm bar off the ropes; McIntyre makes the ropes. Blake continues to work the arm, but McIntyre connects with chops and then the big boot. Rapid fire rights follow and then the corner splash. Blake fires back with rights, but McIntyre hits the sitout spinebuster for a near fall. Blake then posts the arm of McIntyre, covers for 2 and then locks in the crossface. McIntyre fights to his feet, hits the reverse Alabama slam, and covers for 2. Blake counters the future shock, attacking the arm once again. A knee drop follows, Blake then heads up top but McIntyre cuts him off. He follows him up, but Blake sends him into the tree of WHOA, but McIntyre pops up and hits an overhead suplex. The claymore kick misses, but McIntyre hits a head butt and the claymore kick finishes it. Drew McIntyre defeated Wesley Blake @ 8:50 via pin [**½] This was a really solid back and forth match, more competitive than expected and likely should have been considering their positions on the card. McIntyre continues to roll.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

Tonight’s show was a perfectly solid, but skippable post Takeover edition of NXT. It provided a strong recap of events from the big show. Kept up McIntyre & Black’s momentum, while introducing The Veleteen. It served its goal as a placeholder show until we start up with the next set of tapings.
