Csonka’s NXT Review 6.14.17

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Drew McIntyre defeated Rob Ryzin @ 3:25 via pin [**]
Non-Title Match: Champions The Authors of Pain vs. Jimmy & Johnny BootsNtights @ 0:55 via pin [NR]
– The Veleteen Dream defeated Raul Mendoza @ 3:40 via pin []
NXT Women’s Title Elimination Match: Champion Asuka vs. Nikki Cross vs. Ruby Riot went to a no contest @ 9:45 [**¼]

Drew McIntyre vs. Rob Ryzin: Ryzin tries to work holds, but Drew just tosses him around. Ryzin then shoves Drew, so Drew punches him in the face and hits a big overhead belly to belly across the ring. Ryzin takes out the knee and hits a superkick for 1. Drew then hits a dump suplex, and follows with a corner clothesline and heads up top and hits another clothesline. Ryzin makes the mistake of slapping Drew, so Drew beats him down and sets Ryzin up top. Drew hits a head butt, sending Ryzin to the floor. Drew dumps him back in, and the claymore finishes Mr. Ryzin. Drew McIntyre defeated Rob Ryzin @ 3:25 via pin [**] Drew McIntyre killing guys is entertaining, but I really want to see him get into a program so that we can start getting really invested in him.

– We get a video package on Ember Moon being cleared to return; she faces Peyton Royce next week.

– We get an Aleister Black video package.

Champions The Authors of Pain vs. Jimmy & Johnny BootsNtights: Jimmy & Johnny BootsNtights lasted under a minute, getting destroyed just as they should. The Authors of Pain are nothing to fuck with. Champions The Authors of Pain vs. Jimmy & Johnny BootsNtights @ 0:55 via pin [NR] Good squash, the AOP should dismantle and destroy anyone not on the roster with minimal effort; the post match was good as we continue the build to AOP vs. Heavy Machinery.

– Post match the champions aren’t done, and deliver some more punishment to their latest victims. Ellering runs down the hit list of the AOP victims, and says Heavy Machinery don’t match up, and that brings out Heavy Machinery for a #BIGLADS stare down, but Ellering backs off the AOP…

– We get highlights from Bobby Roode’s shit taking of Roderick Strong last week.

– We get a Sonya Deville video package; she’s a badass, was born to fight and here to fuck some people up. She used a “Put your hair up and square up” line, which I am not sure if I love or hate. She’ll be on next week’s show.

The Veleteen Dream vs. Raul Mendoza: Mendoza was in the CWC, losing to Kendrick and has been signed to a developmental deal. Dream toys with Mendoza to begin, they lock up and Dream hits a shoulder block. Mendoza gets a roll up for 1, they do some back and forth and Dream cuts off Mendoza with a boot as he went for a springboard. Dream then beats down Mendoza in the corner, and hits a belly to back suplex. He slaps Mendoza around, and then beats on him a bit. Mendoza counters and hits a high kick, and follows with chops. Mendoza picks up the pace but runs into a flapjack; the rolling DVD and top rope elbow drop finish Mendoza. The Veleteen Dream defeated Raul Mendoza @ 3:40 via pin [*½] Another ok squash from the Veleteen Dream, but it’s still too early to see what he can be as his action has been very limited. He seems to have control of the gimmick, and his work has been solid from what he’s been asked to do.

– We get highlights from last week, where Hideo Itami tried to murder Oney Lorcan. Leading to Kassius Ohno making the save. Ohno was interviewed and doesn’t know where his friendship with Itami is and knows that wasn’t the real Itami. He wants to lead by example and not stoop to Itami’s level, and talked to Regal, so he will face Aleister Black next week. Someone may die in that match.

– Next is an Ember Moon video package.

Champion Asuka vs. Nikki Cross vs. Ruby Riot: Cross runs Riot and Asuka together, which angers the champion. They all brawl, and Cross hits Riot with a missile dropkick and then Asuka hits Cross with a missile dropkick. Asuka yells at both. So they attack and send her to the floor. Riot and Cross brawl in the ring and make sure to keep Asuka on the floor. Riot hits Cross with a superkick and we take a break. Post break, Asuka is back and hits Riot with a hip attack, but Riot hits a RANA. Cross attacks Riot, hits soul food and covers but Asuka breaks it up but Riot cuts her off with chops. Asuka wipes out Riot with a kick, covering for 2. Cross pulls Asuka to the floor, but Riot hits a dropkick off the apron, taking both out. Back in and Riot heads up top, leaps over Cross and hits a shotgun dropkick. Riot back up top, but Asuka shoves her to the floor and then she misses a dropkick; Cross hits her fisherman’s neck breaker, but Asuka rolls to the floor. Riot plants Cross with a Saito suplex, but both are down. Asuka back in, Riot hits her with a kick and Cross hits a draping neck beaker, eliminating Riot. We take another break. Post break, Asuka and Cross trade strikes and then Asuka follows with kicks. The dead lift German follows for 2. More kicks from Asuka follow, the ref keeps trying to separate them and Cross rakes the eyes. They battle to the apron, and Asuka hits an ass attack off the apron. They brawl to the stage, and then backstage and the match is thrown out… Champion Asuka vs. Nikki Cross vs. Ruby Riot went to a no contest @ 9:45 [**¼] This was flat, disjointed and never got going. They tried to make it feel different, more chaotic, but the alarming lack of heat was really depressing.

– We find them brawling in the back, with Cross being whipped into a temporary wall. Cross then slams Asuka to a metal door, officials try to separate them and fail. Asuka repeatedly slams Cross to the metal door, and they brawl back into the arena. Cross then tries to drown Asuka in a cooler of ice water and they brawl back into the main arena and by the announce table. They fight into the production area, and then onto a table and as they brawl more, Cross attacks and they fly off the table through a platform below.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Poor
The 411
Tonight’s episode of NXT was painfully bland, with nothing worth your time. This was just an overall poor effort from the usually solid at worst NXT brand.
