ROH TV 11.25.15 – Episode 218

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Moose defeated Dominick Carter @ 0:05 via pin [NR]
– Moose and Michael Elgin defeated Donovan Dijak & J. Diesel @ 8:03 via pin [**]
ROH TV Title Match: Roderick Strong defeated Champion Jay Lethal @ 15:00 via submission to become the NEW CHAMPION [****]

Moose vs. Dominick Carter: This was a sub 10-second squash match, similar to the run they ran with Elgin last week. This then went into a post match promo from Stokely Hathaway. He then sent a message to Jay Lethal, claimed that Moose will be the next ROH champion, and mocked Elgin for sending the same message last week. Elgin then came to the ring and said that he’s up for action; they teased fisticuffs, and then The House of Truth (Martini, Hendricks, Dijak and Diesel) came out to the ramp. They were not pleased that these riffraff were using Lethal’s name, and then used some really dated lingo. This was followed by Elgin promising to “take Truth’s sidepiece and check into the hotel with her”. This of course led to a tag match, which started right away…

The House of Truth vs. Michael Elgin and Moose: Elgin and Moose dominated prior to the commercial, and when we came back, they were playing anything you can do I can do better. The fact that they kept arguing and trying to show each other up allowed Dijak and Diesel to make a comeback and then get control temporarily. Moose made a comeback and sent both Diesel and Dijak to the floor, and then Elgin took them out with a cannonball off the apron. Elgin then seemed to have things under control, hitting the buckle bomb on Diesel, but Moose tagged himself in and hit the spear to pick up the win. They had the big stare down post match, and this was your set up for a Best in the World match.

– Adam Cole (BAY BAY) again has taken over Inside ROH to give us some story time. He puts over Taven and Bennett as the tag champions, and that they will beat War Machine at Final Battle. Also, Cole will face Dalton Castle next week.

– We get an awesome Roderick Strong video package.

– The fucking (Decade Whitmer, Page and Colby Corino) are here. Whitmer said that they were taking the show hostage, because they had to address the fact that Steve Corino liked about his neck injury last week and is nothing but a quitter. He also said that the fans and Nigel were stupid for believing this. He then accused Nigel of being a liar and quitter for the way he left wrestling a few years ago. Nigel eventually had enough of this bullshit and came to the ring to put a stop to it. Since Corino can’t be at Final Battle, neither can the Decade. Oh don’t tease me Nigel, because that sounds too good to be true! Whitmer and Page were both upset, but Whitmer was upset at the situation, while Page appeared to be more upset with Whitmer.

ROH TV Title Match: Champion Jay Lethal vs. Roderick Strong: We’re doing no one at ringside and two referees to make this a completely fair match. Strong controlled the opening minutes, trying to push the pace and chasing Lethal, who was trying to play prevent defense and run from the problem. When we came back from the commercial, Lethal had taken control of things and repeatedly slammed Strong to the barricades. He then slowed things down, working clean grappling to keep Strong grounded. They had a brutal exchange of chops, it really sounded as if Strong was going to cave in Lethal’s chest at one point. They worked in some really good counters to play off of the previous matches, and then Strong unloaded with a barrage of forearm strikes as we worked through another break. During the final stretch is where they really kicked things into a higher gear, with some great counter wrestling (to tie the series together) and Strong trying to work in the Strong-hold to mix things up. Lethal would counter a superplex late into the Lethal injection, but Strong kicked out and the crowd was getting into this big time. Strong finally had enough of this shit and just unloaded his arsenal on Lethal; knee, gut buster, sick kick, back breaker and then the Strong-hold once again and lethal finally tapped and we got a new champion. In the build to the match we saw Strong break out the submission game, and they teased that it could be a strategy that pays off in this final match, and it did. I like the change of the title to Strong, because it frees up the title and also allows Strong to walk away from the Lethal feud with a victory and a real sign of accomplishment. It also allows lethal to appear vulnerable and needing to regroup prior to his match with Styles. Lethal had in one way or another scored wins and gotten away with everything, so now he lost and the story is can he rebound prior to Final Battle. This was a damn good match.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Good

Overall this was a really strong show this week; they did leg work for the Moose vs. Elgin match (likely a #1 contender’s match) and made the early part of the show flow together very well. Adam Cole (BAY BAY) has been great in his story time segments, and it has been a very good use of him. The Decade simply needs to go away, they bore me to death and I really hope they are no were near Final Battle, but I fear they will be. The main event was a killer, and a great way to end this chapter of the Lethal vs. Strong feud.
