ROH TV Title Match: Champion Roderick Strong vs. Masada: This is part of the Roddy vs. the World open challenge. Masada is known for his run in CZW and working death matches, which makes him one of the oddest choices to bring in. This is also being contested under “relaxed rules.” Corino Mr. Wrestling III spoke about Masada knowing how to wrestle and use holds, but that he likes the death match style. They went back and forth, with Masada using his GRAPPLING skills and getting the better Strong early. It broke down into a striking exchange, and then they worked to the floor for a bit. Strong hit a back breaker on the apron and they then worked through a commercial break. After the break they were back in the ring, with Masada making a comeback and hitting a sick belly to back suplex for a near fall. Strong sloppily countered a powerbomb, but Masada hit a DVD for another near fall. Commentary did a nice job of discussing how an outside challenger could upset Strong due the fact that Strong may not know him well. After some back and forth Masada pulled out his pokey sticks of fun. They teased using them a few times, but then Strong caught Masada with a knee and that was that. That was a fun opener, with Masada given enough to make the challenge fun, but Strong retaining.

– Post match Bobby Fish appeared to hype a rematch with Strong. Fish says that Strong is offering challenge to anyone and everyone, but not Fish. Strong put over Fish and says that Fish cannot accept defeat. Fish says a real man laces up the boots even when he faces defeat in the face, and anyone that saw Final battle knows Fish won. Strong called Fish a sore loser, but Fish said Strong can do he respectful thing and accept Fish’s challenge and go to war again. Strong left, and Fish said that his is a patient man, and he has no place better to be than in Strong’s face. This was a good little segment to work towards the rematch.

– They hyped the Elgin and Tanahashi vs. Briscoes match for the anniversary PPV.

Top Prospect Tournament: Colby Corino w/BJ Whitmer vs. Punisher Martinez: Corino is the much smaller opponent here, he tried to use his speed to avoid Martinez, hitting and moving. Martinez cut him off, tossed his around and just brutalized the smaller man. Martinez controlled until Corino hit a desperation dropkick and then hit a cutter off the ropes and a corkscrew moonsault for a near fall. Martinez to the floor, and Corino hit a big senton to the floor. He set for a RANA but Martinez basically dropped him on the floor. He then picked him up and hit a SICK apron powerbomb. That had to suck. Back in the ring Martinez hit a sitout chokeslam and that was it. While a bit sloppy, Martinez looked like a beast and Corino showed some fire.

– Post match, Whitmer checked on Colby and got a mic. He told Colby he did well, and then told Mr. Wrestling III to take off his mask. Whitmer ran down Colby’s father for abandoning Colby and his mother for a new family. Whitmer says he has shown Colby love, something Steve Corino never showed him. He gave Steve a chance to unmask, or fate will decide his actions. Whitmer then said Colby let him down by losing and embarrassing him, but he also knows he called his father over Christmas. Whitmer then forgave Colby, but can’t forgive the sins of the father; he then dropped FOUR XPLODER suplexes on Colby. Whitmer then laid Colby by the announcers and went face to face with Mr. Wrestling III, saying that everything he ever said was right. This was another good angle to advance the story between Corino and Whitmer. It’s not my favorite angle, but they are overall doing it well.

– During the break, Mr. Wrestling III helped Colby to the back.

– They hype the world title match at the anniversary PPV, which is Lethal defending against Cole and O’Reilly.

– Next week, the ANX aces ROH Tag Team Champions War Machine.

reDRagon (Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly) vs. Adam Cole (BAY BAY) and Jay Lethal w/Truth Martini and Taeler Hendricks: The main goal of the match was to help tease the 14th anniversary main event (Lethal vs. Cole vs. O’Reilly) and in that aspect they did a good job. The early potion was reDRagon controlling early, working over Lethal as they kept teasing O’Reilly getting his hands on Cole. Through some heel shenanigans and distractions, Cole and Lethal got the heat on Fish as they worked through the commercial break. After the break the heels were still working on Fish as they kept teasing O’Reilly vs. Cole confrontations. The heat was good; it never got too slow and consistently teasing O’Reilly’s tag. He finally got the tag, Cole made sure to bail as O’Reilly worked over Lethal. O’Reilly ran wild and finally hit a flying knee to the floor onto Cole. O’Reilly looks to make Lethal tap, but Cole broke that up and then took his chance to work over O’Reilly with Lethal’s help. O’Reilly would send Cole to the floor and Fish then speared him into the barricade. ReDRagon worked double teams on Lethal, and went for chasing the dragon but Lethal escaped and Cole returned as it totally broke down. Cole and Lethal worked some good double teams and got a near fall on Fish as they went to another commercial break. Post break lethal hit the top rope elbow for a near fall as O’Reilly made the save. It finally got down to O’Reilly and Cole; they beat the hell out of each other center ring, unloading on each other as Lethal and Fish also got involved. This was really strong action down the stretch, building well off of the first portion of the match. Lethal accidentally hit the Lethal Injection on Cole, and O’Reilly got the pin on Cole after chasing the dragon.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Good
The 411
This was a good show from ROH tonight, as they continue a fluid build to the 14th anniversary PPV as well as other angles (Whitmer and Corino). ROH continues to produce an easy to watch show, with some quality wrestling and basic, but well done angle advancement.
