– Jack Gallagher defeated Ariya Daivari @ 5:30 via pin [**½]
Cruiserweight Title Match: Rich Swann defeated Champion Brian Kendrick @ 13:30 via pin [***½]

– Mauro Ranallo, Corey Graves and Austin Aries are on commentary. Aries teased going after the title when healthy.

– Swann, Perkins, Gallagher, HoHo Lun, the Bollywood Boys, Noam Dar, Tony Nese, Drew Gulak, Ariya Daivari, Cedric Alexander, Lince Dorado, Akira Tozawa, Mustafa Ali, Gran Metalik and Brian Kendrick are all brought out on stage and introduced. I liked that, TV crowd reactions have shown that not everyone watched the CWC, so they need introduce.

– We get a video package for The Bollywood Boys (Harv and Gurv Sirah). They seem like polite young lads.

The Bollywood Boys (Harv and Gurv Sirah) vs. Tony Nese and Drew Gulak : Aries is playing heel commentator, mocking the Boys and the handshake stuff. Good control and teamwork early from the Bollywood Boys, but Gulak cut them off, with some basic brawling to keep the Bollywood Boys grounded. Nese tagged in, continuing the heat and also keeping things on the mat. Nice bully work from Gulak and Nese, working a basic, no nonsense offense, just looking to stop all momentum and keeping the Bollywood Boys from mounting any sort of comeback. Harv finally hit a neck breaker on Nese, Gurv got the hot tag and worked over Gulak. The Bollywood Boys slammed Nese into Gulak, and that led to a near fall. Nese used his power to slam Harv to the corner, but a high cross by Gurv got a near fall, Nese made the save. Harv hit a moonsault to the floor, but Nese cut off Gurv. Gulak and Nese were again slammed together; stereo superkicks to Gulak finished it. The Bollywood Boys (Harv and Gurv Sirah) defeated Tony Nese and Drew Gulak @ 7:05via pin [**] This was a solid match overall, it had some nice moving parts, but it could have been smoother. It also really needed more energy to set the one of the series. It felt like a lot of the random Raw tags we’ve seen. Technically sound, but lacking fire and intensify.

– Nese and Gulak were not happy about the loss and blamed a lumpy ring and greasy ropes for their loss.

– We get a Noam Dar video package.

– Kendrick claims he will retain his title tonight. TJ Perkins appears and says he has not received his rematch. He wishes Kendrick luck.

– We get a Gran Metalik video package.

Jack Gallagher vs. Ariya Daivari: Daivari made the mistake of trying to grapple with Gallagher, it obviously failed as Gallagher tied up Daivari and even had time to fix his moustache. Gallagher is so much fun. Daivari hit a kick to the gut, but Gallagher had an answer for just about anything Daivari tried. Daivari is thusly getting grapple fucked. Gallagher actually tied up Daivari into a ball, and then punted him in the ass. Daivari managed to hit a neck breaker, and then hit repeated elbows and knees. Daivari smartly got away from the grappling and decided just trying to kick ass was the best plan. Gallagher connected with several dropkicks, including the corner dropkick and put Daivari away. Jack Gallagher defeated Ariya Daivari @ 5:30 via pin [**½] That was a pretty good, and fun match. They worked a very different match with the goal to show off Gallagher’s offense, which is very different. Jack Gallagher is a treasure.

– We get a Lince Dorado video package.

– We now get a Rich Swann video package.

Cruiserweight Title Match: Champion Brian Kendrick vs. “The Outlandish” Rich Swann: The FUCK is with Swann’s unnecessary nickname? Kendrick immediately took Swann to the ground, which did not feel like the right play after the last match. They worked a slow beginning, Swann picked up the pacing, hit a dropkick and holy hell, the crowd reacted to his fun and fast offense. Kendrick fought back with a German suplex, and then hit the boot to the face. Clubbing forearms follow, Swann fought back with chops, but Swann hit a tiger bomb. Swann tried to follow up, Kendrick worked the neck but sliced bread was countered. Kendrick to the floor. Swann fired back with a cannonball off the barricade, back in and they traded strikes and Kendrick about killed Swann with a belly to back suplex. Captain’s hook by Kendrick, but Swann escapes. Kendrick looked for a dragon suplex, Swann escaped and Swann then folded up Kendrick with a belly to back suplex. Swann fired back with a big right from the apron, they fought up top and Kendrick then hit a neck breaker off the top buckle. They did the countout tease on Swann, Kendrick right back on the attack, hitting another suplex and continuing to work the neck. Dragon suplex into the captain’s hook by Kendrick, Swann fights, transitions to the Japanese strangle hold, Swann fought forever, escaped and hit the Michinoku driver for a near fall. Head kick by Swann, standing 450 eats knees and locks in the captain’s hook. Swann made the ropes for the break. Swann up top, pulls Kendrick up with him and Kendrick bit him and hit sliced bread off the top, but Swann kicked out. Swann avoided the captain’s hook, hit a series of kicks and pinned Kendrick to win the title. Rich Swann defeated Champion Brian Kendrick @ 13:30 via pin [***½] After a rough start, and an unresponsive crowd, they worked themselves into a very good match and I think the title change was needed for the debut and also because they needed it off Kendrick; Swann is so charismatic and can be a great babyface champion.

– Swann spoke about his mother, who passed away when he was young, in his post match. Kendrick claimed Perkins cost him to lose due to messing with him backstage prior to the match.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The debut of WWE 205 Live was not a bad show, but I felt that it was lacking. I felt that Aries was a bit too over the top on the heel commentary to the point that it became a distraction, and hurt the flow of the commentary team. They are obviously positioning him to the top heel when he is healthy, and I can appreciate that, but a bit of subtlety would be nice.

The choice in what talent to use is big question mark as well. You wheel out this new show and Metalik, Cedric, and Tozawa are on the sidelines. Also, would it kill someone in creative to go back and watch an Episode of NITRO. We keep hearing about these highflying cruiserweights, but they are rarely seen. Throw some guy out there, ones that can do FLIPPITY DOOS and LET THEM DOFLIPITYDOOS and get the damn crowd excited. Right now the cruiserweights largely feel like small guys working the regular WWE style. I want excitement, I want this to succeed, different things (as far as styles go) and I want that feel back that the CWC had. I want wacky jack Gallagher, I want FLIPPITY DOOS, I want grappling, I want it all but it still feels as if these guys have been told to hold back. There is a spark missing since the end of the CWC.
