Csonka’s WWE 205 Live Review 5.16.17

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Noam Dar defeated Gran Metalik @ 8:55 via pin [**¾]
– Tony Nese vs. Mustafa Ali Never Started [NR]
– Austin Aries defeated TJP @ 12:30 via submission [***]

– We get highlights from last week. Neville wants TJP to finish off their Aries problem tonight.

– Aries is interviewed, and says he will beat Neville’s lap dog. Neville is a liar, and TJP will never get that title opportunity that has been promised to him. TJP will never be at the “a double” level.

Noam Dar w/Alicia Fox vs. Gran Metalik: Dar is again sporting his sweet looking toupee. It’s nice to see that Gran Metalik has been found (and not on Main Event or the NXT Florida loop). They work some basic back and forth to begin, and Metalik sends Dar to the floor with a dropkick. Metalik to the floor, Fox plays shield and that allows Dar to take advantage back in the ring. Metalik picks up the pace, hits the head scissors and then the run up the ropes lucha arm drag. Dar to the floor, he then eats a kick and moonsault from Metalik. Fox then distracts Metalik, allowing Dar to dropkick the knee and send Metalik to the floor. Dar then attacks the arm, lays in uppercuts and then goes back to the arm. Metalik manages to counter a suplex, drop toe holds Dar into the buckles, fires back with rights and then hits the back springboard elbow. The bulldog follows and Metalik covers for 2. Dar counters out of the Metalik driver, attacks the knee and then attacks the arm in the ropes. Metalik hits an enziguri, and then follows with the rope walk elbow drop for 2. Metalik lays in strikes with the good arm, and gets a roll up for 2. he goes for another ropewalk, Dar kicks out the leg and follows with the running kick for the win. Noam Dar defeated Gran Metalik @ 8:55 via pin [**¾] Pretty good match overall, better than their Main Event match from last week, with Metalik selling Dar’s offense well before losing. I really wish they would have booked Metalik against someone he could have really shown off his repertoire against, but then again, I’m just happy he made it back to 205 Live. Dar picks up another win, it will be interesting to see if they can keep his momentum going this time.

– We get highlights of Tozawa beating Kendrick last week, and then Kendrick snapping and kicking the shit out of Tozawa; they rematch next week in a street fight.

– Kendrick gets promo time, and says that a street fight plays into his strengths, and that he can do anything he wants. He hopes Tozawa learned from the lessons he taught him, otherwise, his 205 run may be over next week.

– Cedric Alexander is returning NEXT WEEK.

– Drew Gulak attacked Mustafa Ali as he made his entrance. He beat him down, tossed him to the barricades a few times and then told Ali he should listen to him because he knows better. Gulak then posted him and rolled him into the ring so that Nese could take him out with the running knee strike. The good reverend Gulak continues to preach the word of Catch Point.

– Rich Swann gets interviewed, and says that he deserves to get as far away from Dar & Fox as possible. Swann gets a delivery, refuses it and sends it to Ariya Daivari. He thinks they are $2500 sunglasses, and then doesn’t open the box. Jack Gallagher arrives, looks to open the box but Daivari tells him to, “take you hands off of my package.” Gallagher puts the box down, Daivari opens it and it’s a powder bomb. He’s pissed that his clothes are ruined. We then get tons of fake laughter from Graves and Phillips.

– Mustafa Ali has been taken to a local medical facility.

Austin Aries vs. TJP: TJP stalls to begin, and then pulls Aries to the floor and slams him to the barricade. Aries counters the slingshot senton; works strikes on TJP and then Aries hits the slingshot senton. Aries maintains control, lefts follow on TJP in the corner; he gets shoved away but favors the knee. Aries manages to get the last chancery, but TJP rolls away and to the floor. They brawl on the floor with Aries slamming TJP to the barricade. Back in they go, Aries up top but TJP clips the leg and Aries was momentarily tapped in the ropes, allowing TJP to take control. TJP focuses on the leg, working a half crab in the ropes and then sending Aries to the floor. Back in and TJP maintains the heat, scoring a near fall and then working his standing leg lock. Aries looks to fire up, but TJP attacks the leg and lays in the ground and pound. Aries slowly fires up and lands strikes, hits a chin breaker, STO and pendulum elbow. Aries then hits the elbow to the back off the ropes. TJP sends Aries to the apron, and then clips the knee and shoves him to the floor. TJP hits the wrecking ball dropkick, rolls Aries back in and covers for 2. TJP with leg kicks, Aries then escapes the detonation kick, and TJP rolls him up with the tights for 2. Aries hits the neck breaker in the ropes and after firing himself up, hits the suicide dive. Back in and Aries up top, but TJP stops that and follows him up. Aries fights him off, but then misses the missile dropkick. TJP clips the knee and locks in the knee bar, and uses the ropes for some added help. The ref sees it and breaks the hold. Aries then escapes the detonation kick, locks in the last chancery and TJP taps. Austin Aries defeated TJP @ 12:30 via submission [***] Good match with TJP doing some great work on the leg and Aries largely selling it well. The post match was also good, continuing the angle and Neville being obsessed with taking out his biggest challenger.

– Post match, Neville arrives and attacks Aries. Neville focuses his attack on the knee, working a modified heel hook. Gallagher arrives with William III to make the save and sends Neville packing with a head butt.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

Tonight’s show was a really simple (not bad) and solid effort, with a good main event, the continuation of the main angles and setting up a big match for next week.
