Csonka’s WWE Main Event Review 11.25.16

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Alexa Bliss defeated Naomi @ 8:20 via pin [**]

– Cathy Kelly welcomes us to the show, and we get highlights from Raw’s main event. TO RAW for main event highlights. (WWE Universal Title NO DQ Match: Champion Kevin Owens defeated Seth Rollins @ 23:15 via pin [***¾]) I get heels winning by cheating, I don’t have a big issue with it, but I also think Owens could be presented better as champion. This was an overall very good main event, with a great crowd and both guys working the stipulation well, creating some good near falls.

– Now we get highlights from Thanksgiving’s past, which features Alicia Fox and Gail Kim on the November 23, 2009 Raw. Santino, The Bellas, Eve Torres and Vickie Guerrero all get involved and food is thrown around.

– From Smackdown on November 23, 2000, The Rock interrupts William Regal. Regal was just trying to spread the good word about what was wrong with the US. Regal’s hair game was not good back in 2000. The Rock appreciates a good meal, unbuttoning his pants and enjoying some… pie. Regal’s insulted facial expressions are the best. Rock also promised to save the drumstick, clean it up, lather it up with some Worcestershire Sauce and stick it up Regal’s ass.

– Next up are highlights from Rock vs. Goldberg from Survivor Series.

BACK TO RAW: Goldberg kicks off the show, thanking the fans for allowing him to be Goldberg again. He then thanked his wife, because he can be very moody. He also thanks his son for giving him the desire to be a superhero again. He did what he set out to do, conquer the beast, but all good things may come to an end. But then he ran into Stephanie, and she agreed he had one more ass kicking left in him. She then asked if he had another title run in him. He says he does, and brought up the Royal Rumble, noting that every one is next. I thought it was a Good segment to kick things off, the crowd reacted well to the announcement and we have the first man set for the Rumble. Putting him in the rumble works because you can protect him and allow him to hit all of his big spots. Plus if someone eliminates him, that could be huge heat. You can read my Raw review at this link.

– We now see we see Gorilla Monsoon on Prime Time Wrestling from 1986 with Bobby Heenan, who is dressed like a pilgrim. They had a real live turkey on set, and Heenan ran away from it.

– And now for a classic, we see the debut of The Gobbledygooker at Survivor Series 1990. According to Mean Gene, it was “Eggciting.” We also got clips of Cena, Gene, Duggan and more discussing what they thought could be in the Egg. MY GOD THAT’S LAZER-TRON. Poor John Cena still feels cheated to this day.

– A highlight package of food fights on WWE TV now runs. The dirt worst.

Alexa Bliss vs. Naomi: Bliss talked shit and then hid behind the ref to stall. Naomi then took control, working a side headlock and kicks. Every time Bliss tried to right back, Naomi grabbed a headlock. Bliss teased walking out, and that led to the commercial break. Naomi knocked her the floor, but when she went to the apron, Bliss tripped her up and took control. Lots of hair pulling from Bliss, Naomi went for a roll up but Bliss kicked out. Bliss then stomped on Naomi and kicked her to the floor. Naomi fired back with a head kick and sunset flip for 2. Bliss got upset and then choked out Naomi in the corner before laying in rights. Another head kick by Naomi, and the Thesz press and clothesline followed for 2. Naomi then hit the speedball kicks, and hit the high cross for 2. Bliss then avoided a kick and Naomi hit the post. DDT by Bliss and then Twisted Bliss finished off Naomi. Alexa Bliss defeated Naomi @ 8:20 via pin [**] Bliss winning is the right call, since she is about to challenge for the title. Unfortunately, this was a very average match, with a layout that didn’t allow either woman to shine, which is a shame because they were the only match on the show and should have been given a better outline to work with and to showcase their strengths. It was far from bad, but it was very bland.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Not So Good

This show felt like a missed opportunity, they showed all of the clichéd holiday videos instead of some of the cooler stuff from the archives and the ladies delivered “a match, which was poorly laid out and failed to properly showcase either effectively.
