Csonka’s WWE Main Event Review 4.28.17

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Rhyno defeated Titus O’Neil @ 5:30 via pin []
– Lince Dorado & Gran Metalik defeated Drew Gulak and Tony Nese @ 9:02 via pin [**½]

– Main Event reviews are back, I am sure all 17 that care of you are dancing in the streets (I love you if you actually take time to read these).

Titus O’Neil vs. Rhyno w/Heath Slater: The crowd is into Rhyno at the start, which is refreshing for Main Event. They go power for power to begin, with O’Neil taking the early advantage. Rhyno fought back, hitting a shoulder block and then working over O’Neil in the corner and then tossing him to the floor. O’Neil battles back on the floor, and takes control back in the ring; the big boot gets a near fall. O’Neil lays in some chops in the corner, and the short armed clothesline gets 2. Rhyno fires up, but O’Neil cuts him off, grabbing the hair. Rhyno is pissed now, hitting shoulder blocks and a belly to belly for 2. O’Neil hits a knee strike, but misses a charge and runs into the spinebuster for the win. Rhyno defeated Titus O’Neil @ 5:30 via pin [*½] It wasn’t bad and had a more invested crowd than usual; the one thing I don’t get is the finish; the crowd loved Rhyno and cheered for the gore, so I have no clue why he wouldn’t use his finish here.

– We get the Roman Reigns video package from Raw.

– We go to Raw for the dumpster match. You win by putting your opponent in the dumpster. JIP as Kalisto leaps into a toss suplex across the ring from BRAUN. BRAUN then crushes him in the corner. BRAUN then looks to toss him in the dumpster, but Kalisto works a guillotine and tries to pull him into the dumpster. BRAUN then powers out and tosses him across the ring again. BRAUN just destroys him with a corner splash and then caves in his chest with a clubbing strike. BRAUN then tries to toss him in the dumpster, but Kalisto hangs onto the ropes and they battle on the apron but Kalisto escapes. Kalisto then dropkicks BRAUN into the dumpster (he lands on his feet) and wins. BRAUN then kicks his ass for that as we get mixed chants for Roman, but BRAUN continues his rampage, dumping Kalisto into the dumpster. BRAUN then pushes the dumpster onto the stage as agents try to make the save and talk him down. BRAUN then tied the lid down, locking Kalisto in the dumpster and rolled him of the stage and to 205 live. Kalisto was 30… Kalisto defeated Braun Strowman [**½] An overall good and strong segment, but Kalisto gets nothing from the fluke win, at least BRAUN killed him afterwards and throughout the match, which will be remembered more than the fluke loss; but I still wouldn’t have had Strowman loose here. – Back to Raw for the House of Horrors video package. Yup. You can read my Raw Review at this link.

Drew Gulak and Tony Nese vs. Lince Dorado & Gran Metalik: Gulak has his “no fly zone” protest sign. Nese and Dorado to begin, Nese overpowers him early and poses. Nese then hits the shoulder block but Dorado then hits a sunset flip; a RANA follows and then the head scissors. Tag to Metalik, he hits an arm drag and tags out to Dorado, they work double teams and hit a double dropkick before tossing Gulak. Dorado up top, but Gulak shoves him to the floor, Post break: Nese grounded Dorado and was in firm control. Knee strikes and clubbing forearms follow. He then suplexes Dorado onto the ropes, and tags out to Gulak, who lays the boots to Dorado. Gulak then keeps things on the ground, working the leg and continuing to ruin the fun of the highfliers. He and Nese work quick tags, isolating Dorado in their corner. Dorado hits the desperation superkick, and makes the tag. Metalik hits a high cross, and then a flippy arm drag for 2. Gulak fires back with palm strikes, but Metalik walks the ropes and hits a RANA. Metalik then hits the ropewalk elbow drop, it breaks down with Dorado hitting the handspring cutter. The heels get sent to the floor, with Dorado & Metalik hitting top rope dives to the floor; back in and the Metalik driver finishes Gulak. Lince Dorado & Gran Metalik defeated Drew Gulak and Tony Nese @ 9:02 via pin [**½] The first half was nothing and the commercial hurt the flow of things, but the closing stretch was really fun. This was perfectly solid, but could have been more either with a few more minutes or by eliminating the commercial break.

– Back to Raw for main event. JIP. Miz begs off, and then slaps Ambrose before running. Maryse plays shield for Miz, allowing him to attack Ambrose and slam him to the barricade. Back in the ring and Miz takes control, working over Ambrose and hitting a neck breaker for 2. Miz lays in the Daniel Bryan kicks, but Ambrose then hits the jawbreaker lariat for the double down. Jericho tags in, runs wild, hits the double sledge off the top and then the bulldog and lionsault. Miz fights off the code breaker, but Jericho sends him to the floor and Miz takes a walk, only for Ambrose attack. They brawl to the announce table, and on top of it. But Bray Wyatt appears to attack Ambrose, hitting sister Abigail on the stage. Jericho then attacks Wyatt, but Miz cuts him off and they take Jericho to the ring. Miz then walks into the code breaker, but Wyatt hits Jericho with sister Abigail and stands tall. Wyatt then lays out Miz with Sister Abigail and poses over him. Dean Ambrose & Chris Jericho vs. The Miz went to a no contest @ 13:00 [*¾] An extremely flat main event, and overall go home angle. They tried to get some momentum for Wyatt, but it did very little in terms of making me care about the actual segment or the PPV Sunday. This was a big old pile of MEH! – End scene.

The final score: review Poor
The 411
With the Raw highlights being weaker than usual and the wrestling not being anything special, this week’s show was a poor effort.
