Csonka’s WWE Main Event Review 6.09.17

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Drew Gulak Lince Dorado @ 6:30 via pin [**¾]
– Bo Dallas defeated Curt Hawkins @ 7:55 via pin [**¼]

– Main Event reviews are back, I am sure all 27 that care of you are dancing in the streets (I love you if you actually take time to read these).

Lince Dorado vs. Drew Gulak: These two faced off last week, but the match was stopped early due to dorado suffering a knee injury. Gulak looks to target the knee early, but Dorado avoids that. Gulak then looks to work the arm, but Dorado quickly escapes and hits a dropkick, covering for 2. Gulak then gets a takedown and scores with the running boot. Chops follow, but Dorado hits a RANA and covers but Gulak kicks out. Gulak cuts him off, stunning Dorado off the ropes and then attacks the knee, working the stump puller. Dorado tries to fire up, but Gulak quickly grounds him again, working the knee. Gulak hits a dragon screw leg whip, and another keeping Dorado down and proclaiming that this is a no fly zone. Dorado hits a series of strikes and follows with a moonsault press for 2. The back handspring cutter follows and Gulak bails to the floor. Dorado then hits an asai moonsault to the floor, but starts to favor his knee. Back in and Dorado hits a forearm, but Gulak attacks the knee and rolls him up, using the ropes to steal the win. Drew Gulak Lince Dorado @ 6:30 via pin [**¾] With Gulak having a featured program on 205 Live, it made sense for him to pick up the win here. He smartly attacked the knee, and Dorado going to the air cost him, as Gulak used the injured knee against him and picked up the win. He ain’t lyin, say no to high flyin!

– Back to Raw for Reigns vs. Wyatt. We’re JIP as Bray stunned Reigns with his wacky spider walk, and hit the uranage for a near fall. They battle up top, but Reigns slips out, hitting a sitout powerbomb for the near fall. Bray sidesteps a superman punch, but Reigns rebounds and hits the second one, scoring a near fall. Bray then bails before the spear can connect, Reigns hits the drive by but Bray then drops him with a lariat. They both beat the count back in, Reigns counters sister Abigail into a roll up for 2. The superman punch and spear connect and Reigns picks up the win. Roman Reigns defeated Bray Wyatt via pin [***] Good match, but Bray looks like shit again saying he’s going to do all of these things to all of these guys and then loses in the first match of his punishment tour. Also, while it kept the crowd, we really shouldn’t be kicking out of finishers in the Raw opening match. You can read my Raw Review at this link.

– Back to Raw for Miz’s IC Title celebration. Miz praises Maryse for setting this all up, and even loves the bear. But Maryse says she didn’t set up the bear. Miz attacks the bear and hits the skull-crushing finale to lay out the bear, he then does the Scooby Doo unmaking, but it’s not Dean Ambrose. Miz tosses him to the floor. A giant human sized box was then delivered to Miz, so he grabs a chair and bats up the box and tackles it as Maryse begs him to stop because it was from her. Miz destroyed a beautiful grandfather clock, and Maryse is pissed and leaves because Miz ruined her gift. Miz blames Ambrose for this, BUT AMBROSE WAS THE CAMERMAN ALL ALONG and attacks Miz and lays him out with dirty deeds. Ambrose then takes a bottle of champagne and chugs on the way out. This was a good & fun segment, with the misdirections (bear & box) playing well until Ambrose finally reveals himself to get some revenge on Miz. You can read my Raw Review at this link.

Bo Dallas vs. Curt Hawkins: These tagged together last week, losing to the super team of Rhyno and Heath Slater. They argued to begin, with Hawkins yelling that he was a star. Dallas quickly attacked, laying in knee strikes and then running forearms. Hawkins then tripped Dallas face first into the ropes and Dallas spilled to the floor. Hawkins then rolled him in, and Hawkins leveled him with a clothesline and hit a clothesline. Post break, Hawkins slams down Dallas using the hair and then works the chinlock. Dallas tries to fire up, but Hawkins quickly cuts him off again and follows with a belly to back suplex for 2. Hawkins whips Dallas to the corner, and then sets Dallas up top. Dallas fights him off, but Hawkins then lays him in the tree of WHOA and hits a dropkick, covering for 2. They work to the apron, but Dallas turns the tide and heads back in, pulls Hawkins in over the ropes and hits a draping neck breaker for the win. Bo Dallas defeated Curt Hawkins @ 7:55 via pin [**¼] Commentary tried so hard to make you believe that Dallas overcame the worst beating he had ever taken, and survived for a huge win. Not so much, but I appreciate then trying. This was your typical, solid, main roster effort on Main Event. There’s just not much substance to the work, but at least it played off of last week’s failed pairing.

– Back to Raw for The Heyman/Joe prom segment. Paul Heyman then appears, and puts over Joe big time before wisely asking permission to enter the ring. Heyman says that Joe may not fear Lesnar, but Lesnar doesn’t fear Joe either. Heyman thinks Joe likes that, but he worries for a living, while Lesnar pushes them aside. Heyman admits that he wanted to see Lesnar vs. Balor, but Joe is the worst-case scenario. He knows that Joe doesn’t give a damn, he just wants to go to war with Lesnar, and no matter the outcome, he knows that Joe will take a piece of Lesnar with him. Heyman says if you want Brock Lesnar, you got Brock Lesnar. They shake hands, and before Heyman can leave, Joe calmly says that, “something very bad will happen to you right now, and I want you to take this message back to Lesnar and tell it to him in great detail as only you can; because I will put my arms around your throat, you will feel weak and your vision will get blurry, and I want you to take that feeling back to Lesnar in great detail, as only you can” and Joe chokes out Heyman as yells “YOU TELL HIM THIS, YOU TELL HIM THIS YOU TAKE THIS BACK TO HIM, YOU GIVE HIM THIS MESSAGE!” The crowd then chants “WE WANT LESNAR” and Joe yells back, “SO DO I!” That was fucking great, Joe was intense and to the point on his promo, and made sure to make the title the most important and final talking point. Heyman was great in putting Joe over, and the final touch with Joe whispering sweet nothings into Heyman’s ear before choking him out was just a spectacular touch. You don’t get them much anymore, but THAT felt like a money promo segment. You can read my Raw Review at this link.

– Back to Raw for Rollins vs. Joe. We’re JIP as Rollins hits the falcon arrow (HE DID THE DEAL) for 2. Rollins then gets a sunset flip and superkick; Rollins up top and Bray Wyatt’s gimmick distracts Rollins, allowing Joe to lock in the clutch and the ref waves it off. Samoa Joe defeated Seth Rollins via submission [***] With Joe being the number one contender, I would have just rather him win clean, but transitioning to Rollins vs. Wyatt will work, but what about Finn Balor? Good main event overall, but it never kicked into that next gear to get to very good or great. You can read my Raw Review at this link.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

If you don’t want to watch Raw, Main Event is a great way to keep up with Monday’s flagship show; you get solid wrestling, they hit the high points from the show, and it flies by. I love that they included the Joe/Heyman segment this week, as that was awesome and needs to be seen by as many people as possible. Good show this week.
