Seth Rollins Talks: Rollins made his way to the ring, and aid that in four week’s we get the Shield triple threat that we’ve dreamed of. He then said that it is live TV and will talk about Roman Reigns, even though he’s not supposed to. The “Roman Reigns Scandal” embarrassed him; his suspension soiled his good name because he brought him into the fold. They even showed the apology from Reigns on the big screen. He claims Reigns has no real fans or family, because it is one vs. all, and never cared what the fans said, because Reigns claimed to be the guy. He claimed that he owns Reigns, and always has. He owned him at Mania, and at MITB when he beat him for the title. Rollins then said Reigns doesn’t deserve forgiveness, a second chance or to be in the Battleground match. I mean, theoretically, he’s not wrong; also the hoped fans would boo when they talked about Reigns being pulled but that did not happen. Dean Ambrose then made his way to the ring. Ambrose wanted to know what this was all about, and insinuated that Rollins was jealous that he had the title. They all make mistakes, like when Ambrose was friends with Rollins. Ambrose says as far as he is concerned the triple threat match is on. AJ Styles then made his way out to the ramp, and said that it should be a triple threat at Battleground, and that he should be the third man. Styles reminded them both that he defeated John Cena, so he deserves Reigns’ spot. Ambrose days he’s sure that Reigns is still in the match, so Styles suggests they make it a fatal four-way match. Ambrose says sure, and that he doesn’t care. Rollins wants it to be one on one, and so here comes John Cena to continue the parade of promos. Cena says Ambrose is a fighting champion, and e doesn’t care who he will fight. Cena wants in this as well. He debuted on WWE TV 14-years ago and even lives in Tampa. Cena wants it to be a fatal five-way for the title. Rollins still ants no part of this bullshit, but before he can elaborate, Stephanie McMahon arrives. She has a solution to the issue. She admits that Reigns caused an embarrassment, bur even worse than that is Ambrose as WWE Champion. Shane isn’t here tonight, but while she likes AJ and Cena being added to the title match, they have to earn it. Rollins will face Cena tonight, and Styles will face Ambrose tonight. If Cena and or AJ win, they will be added to the Battleground title match. Interesting that they actually mentioned the suspension, I thought they would do their best not to in order to protect one of the chosen ones. I do not see how it helps Reigns unless the full heel turn is on order, they didn’t exactly make him sympathetic there. The segment was very busy with too many players, but at the very least they announced matches for the show, and once that have importance behind them.

Paige and Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte and Dana Brooke: Charlotte ran from Banks, leading to Banks and Brooke beginning the match. Brooke got some attitude and then got it slapped out of her, Paige tagged in and she and Banks sent Charlotte and Brooke to the floor. We then took a commercial break. Post break, Brooke and Charlotte predictably worked he heat on Paige. They used quick tags and the heat was fine, but overall rather bland. Paige looked to fight back, but Charlotte cut her off with the neck breaker. Charlotte scored with a cheap shot to Banks, who tried to get in, but that led to the ref being distracted. Page fought off the heels and finally got the hot tag. She cleaned house on Charlotte, double knees to Brooke in the corner but Charlotte broke up the pin. Paige took her out with a superkick, back in and Banks hit the backstabber on Brooke into the Banks statement for the win. That was what it needed to be; the heels get the heat on Paige, Sasha then gets the hot tag and picks up the win on the champion’s flunky to give her momentum for her title shot. Brooke’s punches are really bad, and Charlotte continues the trend of getting lost at moments during tag matches, hurting the comebacks. The heat also suffered, because of the booking of Paige, she gets a pop and then people do not invest in her. It wasn’t a bad package overall, but it had it’s issues.

– Lana did the ring announcing for Rusev.

US Title Match: Champion Rusev vs. Titus O’Neil: O’Neil attacked before the bell; the ref checked on Rusev to ask if he wanted to continue, so super babyface agreed to still defend his title. O’Neil controlled for a very short time, and then Rusev battled back and beat down O’Neil. Knees to the gut followed, as Rusev worked into a chinlock for a bit. O’Neil tried to fight back but ate a nice dropkick by Rusev. O’Neil eventually fought back with rights and chops, and then clotheslines followed. Rusev bailed to the floor and tried to get the belt and leave, but O’Neil charged him and they did the double clothesline on the floor. O’Neil eventually sent Rusev to the timekeeper’s area to get the countout victory. This feud, which lacks any real heat and contains average action, must continue. Also, great revenge by O’Neil there, as he an away from the man he was so upset with.

– Stephanie walks and talks on the phone, and runs into Citizen Kane. He just wants a minute of her time. Since Shane isn’t here, he wants a shot at running Smackdown when it goes live. She claims she will run Smackdown, and Miz and Maryse arrive, back from the set of The Marine 5: Yes There’s Another. They complain about their treatment, and Miz claims he is up for awards. Kane hypes his latest movie that is out on DVD; Miz claims he is a real actor and says if he was running Smackdown he’d have an issue with his IC Champion being gone, and mentions the once every 30-days rule which has been ignored for years. Stephanie makes a title match: Miz vs. a mystery opponent.

John Cena vs. Seth Rollins: If Cena wins, he gets added to the WWE Title match at Battleground. Rollins tried to outwrestle Cena early, but Cena went to the power game to stop that. Good crowd early, as they are really into things even with both guys not doing much. Rollins picked up the pacing, hitting a dropkick and scoring a near fall. Cena hit a dropkick, but Rollins quickly back with the blockbuster, which got a near fall. Rollins tried to ground Cena, but Cena fought back and loudly called the next sequence of moves loudly to the hard camera, going into the shoulder blocks. Rollins then kicked him to the floor, as we headed to a commercial. Post break, Cena went for the STF, Rollins escaped and Cena hit the shoulder blocks and proto bomb. Five knuckle shuffle followed, but Rollins back with a superkick and that got 2. Cena stopped the corner charge and then hit a tornado DDT for a near fall. Rollins fought back, hitting the enziguri for 2. They traded rights, Cena politely yelled for Rollins to duck, allowing Rollins to take control and head up top. Cena cut him off, followed him up, but Rollins slid out and hit the running powerbomb t the corner for a near fall. Rollins back up top, high fly flow MISSES as Cena rolls out of the way. Cena headed up top for the fameasser, but Rollins ran up and hit the superplex into the falcon arrow (HE DID THE DEAL) for a near fall. Rollins went for the pedigree, Cena countered but Rollins then hit a high cross; Cena rolled through and went for the AA and it connected, but only for a near fall as Rollins got a foot on the ropes. Rollins then countered a second AA, pedigree try, countered into the STF. Rollins fought for the ropes, Cena pulled him back and then Cena sees the Club heading to the ring. He gets distracted; Rollins hits the pedigree and picks up the win. This was the usual strong outing from Cena and Rollins, who have great chemistry. Cena was loud on calling some spots tonight, in fact right to the camera at times, which always comes off as annoying. The loss was one that protects Cena and furthers the feud with Styles.

– Enzo and Cass made their way to the ring. They had their usual fun doing their intro. They are riding the wave of fan support right to the top. They then asked for the fans to do the wave during their match.

Enzo and Cass vs. Johnny and Jimmy Bootsntights: They beat the enhancement guys in 15-seconds with the rocket launcher. It got them in front of the crowd to talk and pick p a win, continuing their momentum.

– The Social Outcasts then arrived and interrupted Cass’ delivery that their opponents were SAWFT. They claimed that they were hard, and that they are back from filming The Marine 5: Yes There’s Another. They claimed to be hard and looking for action. Cass asked who was the hardest, leading to the Outcasts arguing. Vince loves dick jokes. They then promised to get in the ring to show how hard they were. Cass dropped Slater with a boot, and it looks like they are building a match for Smackdown or next week’s Raw. It wasn’t bad, but felt like they were dragging it out to fill some time.

– We get out usual Darren Young and Bob Backlund video package. It’s still a thing.

– We get a video of WWE & NXT stars working with the Special Olympics competitors. They then bring them out on stage, where Renee Young and Big Show announce them to the crowd.

Summer Rae vs. Becky Lynch: Natalya is out on commentary. Before the match can even start, Lynch hit the floor and attacked Natalya. They brawled on the floor, and Natalya got away and tried to bail but Lynch shoved the ref away and continued her attack. They were finally separated. It was fine enough to continue the feud, but Becky needed a win after another recent loss to Dana Brooke; also it felt as if they didn’t have a lot of confidence in Natalya doing commentary for the match.

– We get a commercial for the Cruiserweight Classic, which starts on July 13th.

The Highlight Reel With Owens and Zayn – Drink it in… maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan: Jericho demanded that the crowd shut up, ranted a bit about Dean Ambrose, and then brought out Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Jericho said that while both men loathe each other, they were once friends. Zayn says he knows Jericho is trying to stir the pot, but he just wants to end it because the feud is hurting both of their careers. Zayn says he cost Owens the Rumble, the IC title and MITB was al because of him. he wants to end the feud with Battleground so that they can put this to rest. Owens wouldn’t speak and Zayn claimed he was a coward. He also says that Owens has lied about why he attacked him two years ago, and wants him to say it to his face. Zayn knows Owens resent shim being signed by WWE first and being a success in NXT before he was. “Grow a set.” Owens says he did what he did was business, because it was the right move for his career. Owens then claimed Zayn ruined the friendship, because they always worked to get to WWE together. And when WWE came calling 18-months before him, he was never upset, he was happy for him. Owens said that Zayn got bitter because Owens’ success came at the expense of Zayn; “I was always a better friend to you than you were to me.” Owens agrees to the Battleground match. Jericho was a complete third wheel here; this segment did not need him. Jericho called Zayn a bad friend and a bad person, and while Owens will never be as great as he is, he is following his lead while Zayn thinks what the fans say matter. Jericho then promised he had something big for Battleground and that being on his show puts them on another level. He then offered the gift of Jericho, do Owens and Zayn double superkicked Jericho. Zayn and Owens stared each other down and then Owens left. I get that the “Jericho character” would make it all about him, but the segment really just needed to be Zayn and Owens. This is a feud with a ton of depth; they do not need anyone else involved. It’s not that I dislike overly arrogant Jericho, there is a place for it, it just wasn’t here. Zayn and Owens were great here.

IC Title Match: Champion The Miz w/Maryse vs. Demon Kane: Of all the possible choices, the crowd officially doesn’t care.. Kane attacked right away, Miz managed to avoid a charge and then work in rights in the corner. Miz escaped a chokeslam and actually tried to work the knee, but Kane hit the bog boot. Kane slowly worked over Miz, hit a suplex and then a basement dropkick for a near fall. To the corner, Miz with the back elbow and then ran into the uppercut. Kane called for the chokeslam, Maryse on the apron and distracted Kane when she faked an ankle injury. Miz stunned Kane off the ropes, and then checked on Maryse. Miz then decided to help her to the back and we got the countout finish. That wasn’t very good at all, the crowd was dead and unfortunately, this feud will continue. Miz and Maryse are a great act though.

– We see Miz helping Maryse backstage. Maryse then reveals that she was ACTING! Miz says that it was an Oscar caliber performance. Maryse corrects him and says it is Emmy worthy, because TV.

Cesaro and Apollo Crews vs. Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio: Sheamus and Del Rio argued right away, still upset about the failure of the League of Nations. Cesaro and Crews controlled at the bell, with Cesaro hitting the running uppercuts. Cesaro went for the swing, but Sheamus and Del Rio stopped that. Enziguri and a DDT by Del Rio, and that gets 2 on Cesaro. He then places him in the tree of WHOA, but Sheamus tagged himself in. Oh yes, the tag team partners that do not get along. Sheamus worked over Cesaro, hitting the back breaker for a near fall. More arguing between Sheamus and Del Rio, and then Sheamus worked a chinlock. Cesaro fought back and slammed Sheamus to the mat, both men down. Tags to Del Rio and Crews. Crews ran wild off the Luke warm tag, and was then sent to the floor. Del Rio tagged in Sheamus and then hit him with an enziguri and left. Crews then dropkicked the steps into Sheamus, rolled him back in and hit the sit out powerbomb for the win. There wasn’t a lot to it, oddly they focused on Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio instead of Sheamus and Crews.

– JoJo interviewed Dean Ambrose. Ambrose said his world title win has been good, and he gets to get into the ring with the best night in and out. He doesn’t do well with down time. Tonight he gets AJ Styles, and Stephanie McMahon appears. She hates that he is WWE champion and the face of WWE. She hopes AJ wins so that she is closer to ending this nightmare. She seems so much angrier that Ambrose is champion as opposed to the man that feuded with and beat her husband and on top of that failed a drug test.

– Miz TV returns to Smackdown this week, with Dean Ambrose as the guest.

New Day Shenanigans: The New Day appear and are dressed up as the Wyatts. Big E is Bray, Woods is Harper and Kofi is Rowan. They admitted to picking a fight with the Wyatts, and claimed the Wyatts needed a bowl of BootyOs. Kofi says that the Wyatts try to intimidate everyone, and they are scary, but they also have bad hygiene. Big e was born in the area and played to the crowd. Kofi then ran down the Wyatts gear, Woods was acting nervous, playing off of his brief hypnosis last week. The Wyatts then appeared, and bray mocked them and the power of positivity. He then says they only tell the people what they want to hear, but that’s not what they need to hear. Bray said his purpose is to tell the people what they need to hear; the world is not made up of rainbows and unicorns, it is a cruel world filled with dangerous people. Bray wants them to explain how the power of positivity can help a man that lost his job or feed his kids. Kofi claimed it was away of life. Big E claimed it flowed through your body. Bray then asked Woods what he thought, noting that Woods “is a bit shook,” but he can confide in and trust Bray. Woods appears afraid, as bray says they are just playing a game. But in this game there are no winners and losers, and New Day will fall. I wouldn’t call that a horrible segment, but it did not work for me; the mix of the groups doesn’t work to me, and it comes off odd and forced. Basically they need something to do with The Wyatts, and jumped into this with little thought. It just doesn’t work for me.

– AJ talks with Doc and Karl backstage.

– The Wyatts will be on ESPN tomorrow night.

– Renee catches up with New Day backstage. Kofi says messing with the Wyatts is a great idea. Woods just walks away as they talk.

Non-Title Match: Champion Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles: Seth Rollins is out on commentary. If Styles wins, he gets added to the WWE Title match at Battleground. They worked some basic back and forth early, with Ambrose trying to ground the quicker Styles. It was all Ambrose early, controlling and looking for roll ups. Styles fired back with rights and then got the side headlock takeover. Ambrose got to his feet, countered the classic Styles dropkick combo, Styles then tried for a clash and then Ambrose tried for dirty deeds and they had a standoff as we went to a commercial. Back from commercial, Styles and Ambrose were still working more of the same. Styles then lit up Ambrose with forearms in the corner, and then the corner clothesline for 2. Ambrose was able to cut off Styles with the stun gun, started to fire up and took control with clotheslines and rights. Fisherman’s suplex by Ambrose gets a near fall. Styles countered a suplex and landed a series of strikes, but cut off with the neck breaker and Ambrose covered for 2. Ambrose up top, elbow countered and Styles went for the clash, but it was countered into a roll up. Styles then hit a wheelbarrow front suplex for a near fall. Styles up top now, Ambrose back to his feet and cut him off and then hit the butterfly superplex. Both men down here, they get back to their feet and Styles got the torture rack into a powerbomb for a near fall. Styles went for the springboard forearm, Ambrose with a boot and went for dirty deeds and Styles countered. They then looked to do a sunset flip spot off the ropes, and Ambrose overshot and favored his knee. Whether planned or not, that came off as completely awkward. Styles then locked in the calf crusher, Ambrose fought for the ropes, and finally got them. Ambrose then sent Styles to the floor, and then hit the suicide dive. Ambrose hit a high cross, roll through and Styles covered for 2. PELE by Styles, but Ambrose then hit the jawbreaker lariat for a near fall. The Club made their way out, Ambrose distracted and Styles hit the bloody Sunday for a near fall. John Cena arrived and attacked Doc and Karl. Styles was distracted, and Ambrose hit dirty deeds for the win. The booking was predictable once Cena lost, but the match was good and a lot of fun. If Rollins wanted Styles not in the match and was so worried, why didn’t he run in and attack Ambrose to get Styles disqualified?

– Post match Doc and Karl attacked Cena. Rollins then attacked Ambrose and laid him out with the pedigree. Doc and Karl hit the magic killer to Cena on the stage. Rollins then hit another pedigree on Ambrose.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Average
The 411
This was an inoffensive and average show tonight. It was a pretty basic Raw as they struggle to find a groove in building to a PPV with five weeks in between; it’s funny, you’d think the extra time would benefit them, but more often than not, it confuses them. We had the usual hits and misses, and while I didn’t completely hate anything, there wasn’t a lot I loved either. Make sure to check out the Owens/Zayn segment, Rollins vs. Cena and Styles vs. Ambrose.
