– Jack Swagger defeated Baron Corbin @ 8:21 via submission [*]

– We get a video package hyping tonight segment and Sunday’s PPV match featuring Cena, Styles & Ambrose.

– Holy shit we’re starting with a match!

Bray Wyatt vs. Kane: This is a rematch from Backlash, where Kane replaced an injured Randy Orton and won when Orton distracted Wyatt. Wyatt attacked at the bell, Kane tried to fight back but it was all Wyatt early. Wyatt then tried to ground Kane, but he hit the jawbreaker to escape, but Wyatt cut him off. Kane avoided the senton and hit some clotheslines and a sidewalk slam. The DDT followed, and Kane called for the chokeslam. Wyatt countered into the uranage and then hit ht senton. We then heard creepy music and Orton appeared on the tron, upside down and cut a promo about seeing the world the way Wyatt sees it. He will turn things right side up at No Mercy. He said he can play games as well and challenged Wyatt to come and find him. Kane then got up tried for the chokeslam; Wyatt escaped and took the countout. Kane defeated Bray Wyatt @ 4:20 via countout [*] It wasn’t much of a match, just an avenue to build to Wyatt vs. Orton. While I can appreciate Orton playing games with Wyatt, it makes no sense for Wyatt to lose here. Would it kill them to give the guy some momentum? Also I don’t care about the notion that “Wyatt doesn’t care about wins,” he appears to be a loser and that’s not good.

– Corbin was interviewed about his issues with Jack Swagger. Corbin said that Swagger won’t make waves, and f he wants to face him, he will drop him. Swagger appeared and challenged Corbin to a fight. Corbin says he does his fighting in the ring. Swagger said he would talk to Bryan about a match.

– In a role reversal from last week, Wyatt searches backstage for Orton.

– Carmella is out on commentary.

Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki Bella: Bliss talked shit to Bella to begin, leading to some back and forth and Bella sending her to the floor with a dropkick. Carmella talked shit to Bella, and Bella sent Bliss into Carmella. Back in the ring, Bella took control and then Carmella jumped her for the DQ. Nikki Bella defeated Alexa Bliss @ 1:58 via DQ [NR] Neither woman should have lost, and it added to the two feuds with the post match brawl. It was solid.

– Carmella and Bliss beat on Bella, and Lynch made the save and the faces cleared the ring.

Carmella and Alexa Bliss vs. Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella: JIP with the Teddy Long special. Bella and Bliss wee in; Carmella distracted Bella allowing Bliss to take control. Carmella tagged in and worked over Bella, hit the broncobuster and covered for 2. Carmella and Bliss worked quick tags, but Bella fought back only to eat a clothesline. Bliss kept control, and the heels continued to work quick tags. Carmella missed the broncobuster and tagged Lynch in. Hose of fire time for Lynch, Bliss in and ate a pair of XPLODERS. Carmella pulled her to the floor, but Lynch attacked off the apron and took out Bliss. Back in the ring and it broke down, Carmella hit a superkick to Lynch and then she and Bella brawled to the back, Bliss hit the twisted Bliss and picked up the win. Carmella and Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella @ 4:04 via pin [**] This was a solid little tag match, giving Bliss the win to give her credibility heading into the PPV and also continuing Carmella vs. Nikki.

– Wyatt a continued to search for Orton, who captured him and locked him in a storage locker. Orton spoke about being the hunter, and then asked the lord to have mercy… or not. We then get mystery footage of Wyatt locked in the room.

– Daniel Bryan hosts a Susan G. Komen segment. This was like the one on Raw; he gave replica titles to cancer survivors.

The Hype Bros vs. The Vaudevillains: Hey The Vaudevillains still have jobs! Gotch and Mojo stated things off, Mojo yelled and danced a bit and hit a double axe hammer to Gotch. Ryder tagged in and then the Ascension made their way to the ring. Gotch cut off Ryder, allowing he and English to take control. English hit an XPLODER and that got the near fall. English took the heat, and then he and Gotch worked quick tags and continued to work over Ryder. They worked a bland heat, Ryder made the comeback and Mojo got the hot tag. He ran wild, hitting shoulder blocks and then the corner splash on English. It broke down, and then the HypeRyder put away the Villains. The Hype Bros defeated The Vaudevillains @ 3:56 via pin [**] This was perfectly solid, but it had no heat to it. The Hype bros pick up the win and tease a future match (maybe the PPV pre-show) with the Ascension with the post match stare down.

Miz TV Presents: A Dolphumentary: Miz and Maryse are in the ring, and bring out Ziggler. Miz says that this could be Ziggler’s final ever Smackdown appearance and that is why we’re getting the Dolphumentary. Miz hypes up their title vs. career match and says that no matter what, Ziggler’s career will not be forgotten. We see clips of Ziggler failing and Booker T burying him on the Smackdown pre-show. We see the story of failure, from Kerwin White’s caddy to the Spirit Squad, getting pinched by Hugh Jackman and then having his face rubbed in Sheamus’ ass. It then moves onto cleverly clipped footage, like a DVD presentation, where Ziggler s buried for his mediocrity. Outstanding work by Miz’s people who put that together that beautiful retrospective. When it was over Ziggler said he could have quit, but for every 10 embarrassing moments, he had a magic moment. He does it for the kids. Ziggler remembers when he cashed in MITB, and said that it is why he can’t walk away. But he’s at a cross road, and had to put his career on the line because he still has some dignity and he will beat Miz on Sunday. Miz will never take his career away, because he is not done yet. Miz then told him he was, and said that Ziggler needs to say good-bye to the kids because he will end Ziggler’s career. But don’t worry, he has something to raise his sprits and we get KENNY and MIKEY from the Spirit Squad! Kenny was particularly fired up as they did some cheers mocking Ziggler. Miz loved this, and said he wished there could have been more, but the others were lost when they got packed away to OVW. Miz even suggests that Ziggler can rejoin them, Ziggler looked to attack and Kenny and Mikey beat him down. Ziggler fought back and hit superkicks, Miz tried to attack but Ziggler ran him off. This was a great balance of Ziggler’s seriousness and Miz’s over the top douchery with the video package and digging up Kenny and Mikey. The Miz vs. Ziggler program continues to be very entreating, and I hope they kill it again at the PPV.

– Wyatt is still trapped, apparently he can’t just disappear from storage units.

– Nikki Bella vs. Carmella has been added to No Mercy.

Jason Jordan w/Gable vs. Jey Uso w/Jimmy: Jordan attacked right away, slamming Uso to the mat and then sending him to the apron. Uso snapped him off the ropes, and took control. Jordan made a comeback, and sat down on a roll through attempt for the pin. Jason Jordan defeated Jey Uso @ 1:16 via pin [NR] While there wasn’t much to it match wise, it was solid enough in continuing the Uso’s heat on Alpha, which will be a tag title program soon enough. The thing they have done is built that feud well while also setting the Usos as the big heel threat to the champions so that we have somewhere natural to go to next.

– Post match the Usos attacked both Gable and Jordan, taking out Jordan’s knee now. Slater and Rhyno then ran out to make the save.

– Wyatt sang in his storage unit and then spoke with “Abigail,” saying he was ready to go home.

– Orton returned to check on Wyatt, and when he opened the storage unit, Wyatt was gone. Orton threw a fit and threw the rocking chair before leaving. Good plan there Randall.

– We get a highlights on John Cena on last week’s Talking Smack. He is happy to have a chance on Smackdown and wants to make history at No Mercy. Cena ran down Ambrose, noting that Ambrose would slow him down and that he doesn’t care about Ambrose.

– We get a Curt Hawkins video package. He claims he will debut at No Mercy.

Baron Corbin vs. Jack Swagger: They worked a slow back and forth, both guys hit big shoulder blocks and as the ref went to separate the, Corbin scored with a cheap shot. Corbin then beat him down with rights, he then posed and they worked through the break. Post break, Corbin was still in control, and slowly working Swagger over. It’s not even that it’s slow, it’s just not interesting. Corbin isn’t doing anything special to make the crowd hate him and Swagger’s selling isn’t getting anyone behind him. Swagger fought back, he ran wild and slammed Corbin to the mat. Corbin countered the Swagger bomb, but Swagger got the ankle lock. Corbin fought for the ropes and as Corbin was clawing for the ropes, the ref rang the bell and claimed Corbin tapped. Jack Swagger defeated Baron Corbin @ 8:21 via submission [*½] Well that was a shit show, they worked a match that did absolutely nothing to get me interested and then ran a bullshit finish that made no one look good. Is Swagger a true blue babyface? If so he shouldn’t be happy with the win. Is he a desperate man at the end of his rope that will take a win by any means necessary? Hard to tell as commentary was largely white noise and not adding much to this at all. On a side note, it’s nearly impossible to give the “new” Swagger a chance when WWE has him wearing the same gear, coming out to the same music and delivering the same catchphrase. The draft could have been a chance for a fresh start, instead they just moved a piece from one side of the board to the other. Sure this leads to another match, and that is all well and good, but this came off poorly and was not entertaining on any level. I was bored.

Cena, Styles & Ambrose Go Face to Face To Face: Styles arrived first and said that Smackdown is the land of opportunity. He agrees, he beat John Cena to become the face that runs the place and then won the title when he beat Dean Ambrose. And now he gets the chance to beat them both on the same night. Dean Ambrose then arrived and made some jokes, and called Styles a chump because he made it to the big leagues and took the low road when he kicked Ambrose in the balls to win the title. Ambrose is pissed because he had Styles beat last week when Cena got involved. As Ambrose talked a thousand miles an hour, Cena made his way out. Even before Cena could speak, Styles told him to shut up because they already know what he’s going to say. Styles doesn’t want to heat about Cena chasing history and winning the title. Styles is offended that Cena would compare himself to Ric Flair, and Styles says that Cena will never be in the same conversation as Flair. Styles then warned Cena to be concerted with him. “You chase history, I make history.” Styles then told Cena to make a fool of himself as he stands back and listens. Ambrose then cut off Cena before he can talk, and says that he knows what Cena will say, and then cuts Cena’s prom for him. he says that Cena will not take blame for his actions last week and plays the political game, because Ambrose is a threat and Cena knows that. Ambrose says Cena can’t outwork him, because Ambrose is in the ring every night and doesn’t fly to awards shows. Ambrose says he never asked for advice or kisses Cena’s ass or played by his rules. Ambrose says he keeps it real, while Cena plays John Cena on TV. So they all brawled, Styles got sent to the floor and Cena hit the AA on Ambrose. He posed with the title, but Styles returned and escaped the AA and hit the springboard forearm. Styles then stood tall to close the show… until Ambrose attacked him on the floor and hit dirty deeds on the ramp. Dean Ambrose stood tall to close the show…? Yes, yes Ambrose stood tall to close the show. That was an overall very good closing segment to set the stage for Sunday’s main event. I thought all three did well, although Ambrose needs to slow his delivery jus a bit because heal most gets to the point to where you can’t hear everything he’s saying. But the promos were good by all, the post match was all well done as each one got a chance to shine. Now all they have to do is deliver on Sunday.

– Here is the updated No Mercy card…

* Nikki Bella vs. Carmella
* Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt
* Smackdown Tag Team Title Match: Champions Heath Slater & Rhyno vs. The Usos
* Smackdown Women’s Title Match: Champion Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss
* Career vs. Title Match: IC Champion The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler
* WWE Championship Match: Champion AJ Styles vs. John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

Tonight’s Smackdown was a solid, but lacking go home show overall for No Mercy. The closing segment as well as the “Dolphumentary” were the highlights this week, and really saved the show from being a bad one overall. While a lot of the other stuff had varying degrees of purpose, and I appreciate that, it felt more hectic and thrown together than the previous weeks, which felt way more focused. Not a bad show this week, but easily a few steps down from the last two episodes.
