– Carmella vs. Nikki Bella went to a non-finish @ 11:40 [**]
– Slater & Rhyno, Usos and Fabreeze, And American Alpha defeated Spirit Squad, Headbangers, Vaudevillains and Ascension @ 11:00 via pin [*]

– Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan are out to kick off the show. They are excited about the 900th Smackdown and remind us that Edge will be here tonight. They also Hype Undertaker’s return.

IC Title Match: Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz w/Maryse: I love this, an actual wrestling match to start a wrestling show. They did basic back and forth to begin, Miz scored with a cheap short to take control, and then tried for the pin as we went to the commercial. Pot break, Ziggler countered the double sledge off the top with a dropkick. Ziggler with the back elbow, but Miz scored with the neck breaker to turn the tide. Miz then went to the Daniel Bryan playbook, working the legs, grounding the champion. Ziggler avoids the corner clothesline, but the leg is slowing him down. Ziggler then fired back with clotheslines, sent Miz to the corner and hit a neck breaker. Ziggler got a body lock and looked for the sleeper, Miz escaped, but Ziggler got a sunset flip, Miz counters into a roll up and the ropes for 2. Ziggler then hit the superkick for a near fall and we took another commercial break. Post break, Ziggler got a roll up for 2. Ziggler then fired away with rights, and Miz mocked Bryan with the yes kicks. Ziggler got another roll up for 2, but Miz killed Ziggler with a knee strike for the near fall. Miz then went for the figure four, Ziggler countered and got the zigzag for 2 as Miz got the ropes. Ziggler set for a superkick, but the Spirit Squad ran out for the save, and Miz locked in the figure four. Ziggler got the ropes for the break, but Miz attacked the leg again, Ziggler went for the roll up, but Maryse shoved him and Miz cradled him for the win. The Miz defeated Champion Dolph Ziggler @19:10 via pin [***] The match was good, but felt a bit disappointing due to the high quality of their previous outings. Miz vs. Zayn makes more sense from a heel vs. face dynamic and should be a good match.

– Miz now defend against Sami Zayn at Survivor Series.

– We get some moments from Smackdown’s history.

– Alexa Bliss makes her case that she had her foot on the ropes last week, but Bryan says the ref’s decision is final. He promises her a rematch. Natalya arrives and tries to motivate Bliss, telling her this is a teaching moment. Bliss is pissed that she quoted chumbawumba.

The CUTTING EDGE: Edge is joined by AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, Shane McMahon & Bray Wyatt

– We see highlights of Kalisto injuring Baron Corbin last week.

Oney Lorcan vs. Kalisto: Lorcan attacks at the bell, hitting a half and half suplex. Lorcan fires up, but Kalisto lays in kicks to make the comeback. Kalisto then hit salida del sol for the win. Kalisto defeated Oney Lorcan @ 2:00 via pin [NR]I have no issue using underutilized NXT guys for enhancement roles. Lorcan was aggressive and competitive, and the right guy won, Heading into the PPV.

– The Smackdown tag teams get HYPE Backstage. Slater brought in a motivational speaker, King BOOKAH! King BOOKAH! Reads from a scroll, but King BOOKAH! Gets tickets from the fashion police Fabreeze. “Tell me you just didn’t say that?” King BOOKAH! Then runs down their choice in outfits.

– We see John Cena’s debut against Kurt Angle. As well as Taker showing the Young Cena respect.

Carmella vs. Nikki Bella: They locked up and then Carmella played some mind games, doing John Cena taunts. Nikki hit a dropkick, sending Carmella to the floor. Carmella blocked a baseball slide dropkick and pulled Nikki to the floor as commentary kept selling Nikki’s neck issues. Carmella then choked out Nikki in the ropes. Nikki managed a roll up, but Carmella cut her off and talked trash after a cover for 2. Carmella worked the chinlock, grounding Nikki and continuing to work the neck. Nikki to her feet with Carmella on her like a backpack. To the corner as Carmella continued her attack, and then mocked Nikki’s dance. Back to the chinlock goes Carmella, Nikki again powers up and makes the ropes. Carmella then choked out Nikki in the corner, but missed the broncobuster. Charlotte ten made her arrival through the crowd as we took a commercial break. Post break, Nikki escaped the chinlock again, and hit the Alabama slam for 2 as Charlotte watches on. Nikki fired up, hitting a clothesline and sending Carmella to the floor. Nikki followed, and then attacked Charlotte. They brawled as the ref called for a DQ. Team Raw arrived and beat down Carmella and Nikki, Team Smackdown arrived to make the save. They brawled on the floor, Jax missed a charge and went through the barricade, Naomi ten hit a dive onto the pile on the floor. Carmella vs. Nikki Bella went to a non-finish @ 11:40 [**] It wasn’t a pretty match, but it was largely what it needed to be. The issue is that Carmella is a very incomplete performer and her heat segment is very repetitive and lacks real aggression. The segment was really good overall though.

– We get some survivor Series Hype, focusing on Lesnar vs. Goldberg.

Slater & Rhyno, Usos and Fabreeze, And American Alpha vs. Spirit Squad, Headbangers, Vaudevillains and Ascension: Alpha and the Usos had issues early, blind tags and being the one that wants to shine. That allowed the heels to get some run, but the crowd warned Slater. Mojo got the tag and he and Ryder worked over Gotch. Gotch tried to fight back, but Mojo was too HYPE, he and Ryder kept control as the crowd chanted for Rhyno. The Ascension got some heat on Ryder, it didn’t last very long as Ryder made his own comeback with the missile dropkick. Everyone argued and we took the commercial break. Post Break, the heels still had the heat on Ryder. Gable got the hot tag, ran wild and hit a run up overhead suplex off the top. Jordan Tossed Mosh as it broke down with everyone Fighting. The Usos hit dives as Alpha hit grand amplitude for the win. Slater & Rhyno, Usos and Fabreeze, And American Alpha defeated Spirit Squad, Headbangers, Vaudevillains and Ascension @ 11:00 via pin [*] They had 11 minutes and 16-guys and largely did jack and shit in a poorly laid out match. The final few seconds were fun, but they could have done way more with that segment, it felt chaotic in all the wrong ways as there was no flow or structure of any kind other than “GO do shit.”

The CUTTING EDGE: Edge is joined by AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, Shane McMahon & Bray Wyatt. Tony Chimel got to announce Edge, he should be the only one allowed to do it. Edge is excited to be here on the 900th Smackdown, because he helped build the show. AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, Shane McMahon & Bray Wyatt and James Ellsworth make their way to the ring. Edge looks puzzled by the mere presence on James Ellsworth. Edge then blows off Styles to Shake Ellsworth’s hand, because he is what Smackdown is all about. Ellsworth wants to do a five second pose, but Styles says it was stupid then sod it’s stupid now. AJ says Edge and Ellsworth do not matter and tells Edge to talk with someone important, so Edge talks with Orton and questions him about the Wyatt stuff. Bray says the Randy he knew is dead, and Sunday, we’ll meet a more dangerous Orton. Edge tells Shane that he has to get the team together. Shane says they don’t have to get along, but they have to work together. Shan mocks AJ’ little phrases, and says that AJ may be competing on Shane-o- Smackdown. AJ says that is stupid. AJ and Ambrose argue because they hate each other still and Ambrose wants the title back.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG

ONE ON ONE WIT DA UNDATAKAH?: Undertaker arrives and goes face to face with Shane. He then says Shane has no fear, which makes him the perfect commissioner for Smackdown. He then says WrestleMania ill no longer define him, because he is back, digging hole and taking souls. He debuted at Survivor Series, and Smackdown has always been his home. Undertaker then reveals that that there is no reason to fear failure, but IF you fail, you will have reason to fear him. “Team Raw better rest in peace.”

Well, Undertaker is back, and has seemingly broken his association with WM to be a regular, which could be interesting. I am not going to lie, I want to see AJ fuck up Sunday and then see Taker go after him. I think AJ can give him a hell of a match. Speaking of that, what if Cena beats Styles for the title and then defends against Taker at Mania? I wish Taker would have been back to take Shane’s spot.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The 900th Smackdown was a bit of a let down, Miz and Ziggler wasn’t anywhere close to even their top end TV stuff, Taker’s segment felt flat and rushed and he really should have replaced Shane. They did some solid build for Survivor Series, but it didn’t feel like a great hard sell. Taker’s return opens up a lot of possibilities.
