Csonka’s WWE Superstars Review 11.25.16

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Sin Cara defeated Jinder Mahal @ 5:06 via pin []
– Bo Dallas defeated Curtis Axel @ 12:30 via pin [**]

Sin Cara vs. Jinder Mahal : So this was every Jinder Mahal match I have seen in 2016. He looks mean, fakes aggressiveness and his opponent provides the moving parts and speed. And just when it is going well, Mahal cuts his opponent off and works a long and bland heat with no real aggression to it. He does next to nothing, laying it all on his opponent to sell the entire heat, which usually looks like shit because Mahal feels lazy. Cara finally cut off Mahal with a dropkick, and then decided he no longer wanted this to suck, so he hit a springboard high cross, moonsault and back elbow before hitting a senton for the win. Sin Cara defeated Jinder Mahal @ 5:06 via pin [*½] Jinder Mahal is a bad professional wrestler, and is only there because he is a warm body that once masqueraded as a competent professional wrestler. He also likely has video of Vince at a Tijuana donkey show. Any enjoyment I got from this match was thanks to Sin Cara.

BACK TO RAW: Goldberg kicks off the show, thanking the fans for allowing him to be Goldberg again. He then thanked his wife, because he can be very moody. He also thanks his son for giving him the desire to be a superhero again. He did what he set out to do, conquer the beast, but all good things may come to an end. But then he ran into Stephanie, and she agreed he had one more ass kicking left in him. She then asked if he had another title run in him. He says he does, and brought up the Royal Rumble, noting that everyone is next. I thought it was a Good segment to kick things off, the crowd reacted well to the announcement and we have the first man set for the Rumble. Putting him in the rumble works because you can protect him and allow him to hit all of his big spots. Plus if someone eliminates him, that could be huge heat. You can read my Raw review at this link.

BACK TO RAW: Where New Day defeats Cesaro and Sheamus via totally heel shenanigans. This had its moments, and I felt it was going well but lost its steam down the stretch. I really thought commentary missed a chance to play up New Day’s desperation to keep the titles and break the record, which may have made it feel like a less heelish finish. You can read my Raw review at this link.

Bo Dallas defeated Curtis Axel: THE SOCIAL OUTCASTS COLLIDE! Say what you will about Curtis Axel, but he appears to be excited to be out there and is trying. Axel charged and attacked right away, looking for revenge after Dallas turned on him when Axel just wanted to be his friend. Dallas clipped the knee, took the heat and grounded Axel. Dallas’ heat consists of a cravat, making mean faces and yelling “SHUT UP” at the crowd. Axel fired back with clotheslines, hit the Hennig neck flip, but Dallas cut him off, stun gunning him off the ropes. Dallas then went for a charge and flew to the floor, nearly taking his head off when he clipped the ropes. Post break, Axel laid the boots to Dallas, but Dallas hit a jawbreaker to stop his momentum. Axel hit the neck breaker for a near fall. Axel to the apron, teased a suplex to the floor, but Dallas scored with a hangman’s neck breaker for 2. Axel tried to fight back, hit the perfectplex, but only got 2. Axel then set Dallas up top, Dallas fought off the super perfectplex and sent Axel to the mat. Axel then hit series of clubbing shots to the back of Dallas and a neck breaker followed for 2. Dallas then hit his version of cross Rhodes and picked up the win. Bo Dallas defeated Curtis Axel @ 12:30 via pin [**] The match was fine, but I keep waiting for these guys to take advantage of the time and deliver something worth watching, and keep waiting for that. Dallas comes off as a guy playing bad guy wrestler, and is not believable doing so right now. I appreciate the attempted reboot, but it is not working at all for me.

BACK TO RAW for main event highlights. (WWE Universal Title NO DQ Match: Champion Kevin Owens defeated Seth Rollins @ 23:15 via pin [***¾]) I get heels winning by cheating, I don’t have a big issue with it, but I also think Owens could be presented better as champion. This was an overall very good main event, with a great crowd and both guys working the stipulation well, creating some good near falls.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.
