Daniel Bryan Reportedly Suffered Last Post-Concussion Seizure Four Years Ago

As previously reported, recently retired WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan recently appeared on ESPN’s “Off the Top Rope” segment with Jonathan Coachman to discuss his retirement and various issues with his injuries and concussions. During the interview, Bryan revealed that he had post-concussion seizures that he previously hid, but he said there was never any evidence he hid them until some were recently found.

Speaking on the subject of his post-concussion seizures on ESPN, Bryan stated, “I have had post-concussion seizures that I have hid, for a long time. There was never any evidence to see why I would have these seizures, but then finally we found some.”

Dave Meltzer discussed this issue on a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio, addressing online speculation that Bryan suffered a post-concussion seizure in his last televised singles WWE match against Sheamus on Smackdown from April 2, 2015 (stemming from a moment occurring at about the 2:20 mark in the video below). According to Meltzer, Bryan has not had an actual post-concussion seizure in four years, and he did not have a seizure in this match where Bryan reportedly did suffer a concussion. Meltzer stated: “The last time he [Bryan] had a seizure was four years ago. Obviously I don’t know who he hid it from and who he didn’t hide it from, but what I can tell you factually is that every single doctor that he talked with knew about it. He didn’t hide that from any doctors.”

Meltzer went on to claim that while Bryan did admit to hiding seizures in the past, he told all his doctors about them when he attempted to get clearance to return to the ring in WWE. This even includes the doctors who did clear Bryan to make an in-ring return. Before he announced his retirement, Bryan said he was cleared to return by concussion specialists at UCLA, but he never received medical clearance from WWE doctors.
