WWE SummerSlam 2015
8-24-15
Brooklyn, NY

Your hosts are Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, and JBL.

Jon Stewart welcomes us to the show and lists some of the names we will see on the PPV. Stewart says he’s still upset about the end of the streak so he wants to interview Brock Lesnar about the rematch. He says he needs backup for his interview so he brings out MICK FOLEY!!!! Foley says he may have put the phone against his missing ear but he thought that he would be interviewing Rock, not Brock. Stewart asks if Foley is afraid of Lesnar, and Foley says he is. Foley says the only place he hasn’t been is Suplex City and he’s not about to go there now. He tells Stewart to have a nice day.

Winner- Sheamus ***1/2 (Another damn good opener from these two. I have to give them props, their two PPV outings have exceeded my expectations. Sheamus’ bailing tactics during the match were smart and they worked incredible hard to get the crowd engaged in their match when they were hesitant at the start.)

<b.WWE Tag Team Championships- Primetime Players (Titus O’Neal and Darren Young) © vs. The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) w/Xavier Woods vs. Lucha Dragons (Kalisto and Sin Cara) vs. Los Matadores (Diego and Fernando) w/El Torito

Clash of the Titus to Fernando but Kofi kicks him out of the ring. He covers Fernando for 3!!!
Winners and NEW WWE Tag Team Champions- The New Day *** (Solid match filled with the usual crazy action you get from these four way tags. Los Matadores and Lucha Dragons really didn’t belong here so while some of the stuff they did was cool, especially Kalisto, it felt insignificant in the match. I’m glad New Day won though, they’re probably the best act in the company and should hold the belts for awhile. )

Jon Stewart talks to Neville and Stephen Amell backstage about being friends with Undertaker when the lights go out and he walks by.

Match ends in a Double Count-Out **3/4 (The work in this match was really good but there was no interest in the crowd in the contest and poor Rusev is being wasted with this Lana stuff. Combined with a crap finish, as a total package this match amounted to nothing.)

Amell dives onto Stardust and Barrett on the floor!!! Back in, Neville goes up and hits the Red Arrow for 3.
Winners- Neville and Stephen Amell ** ( Stephen Amell did a good job, one of the better celebrity efforts. They kept things simple, Amell took good bumps and Neville came out of this the shining star, so this was a success. )

Double powerbomb to Harper and Ambrose hits Dirty Deeds on Wyatt. Tag to Reigns and he hits the Spear for 3.
Winners- Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns ***1/4 ( Super fun brawl. They didn’t get enough time to tell an engaging story but they filled the match with intense action to make up for it and Ambrose and Reigns got a much needed win on a big stage. )

Winner and NEW US Champion- Seth Rollins ****1/2 ( A phenomenal match with an incredibly lame finish. The counters and transitions during this match were out of this world which led to some heart pounding and incredibly hot near falls. Rollins broke out some offensive he doesn’t always use and both him and Cena continue to bring it on PPV. The Stewart interference after his explanation on Raw the next night just comes across as so lame and a desperate attention ploy and just killed the end of an amazing contest. )

Pumphandle suplex by Becky gets 3.
Winners- PCB **1/4 (The cries that this match was horrible were over exaggerated. The match was OK but it was just the girls doing stuff and the heat segment on Paige was super dull. The team format and the force-feeding of the concept of a Diva’s Revolution is killing these poor girls and it sucks cause a majority of these girls can go in the ring. This Diva’s Revolution so far can’t be viewed as any other than a giant disappointment to this point. )

Winner- Kevin Owens ***1/2 (This was a really good match but you can tell the crowd was getting tired and that they were waiting on the main event. A shame too, because the wrestling in this match was excellent but it was missing that energy and emotional investment to really put it over the top.)

Heyman thinks Lesnar made Taker tap but Charles Robinson says he never called for the bell. Taker goes low on Lesnar and he grabs Hell’s Gate!!!! LESNAR FLIPS OFF TAKER BEFORE PASSING OUT!!!!
Winner- The Undertaker **** (Great main event that was significantly better than their WrestleMania XXX encounter. It was a great fight and that sit up spot was unreal, brining this match to a whole new level. The finish was deflating but the idea of Taker being desperate with the low blow and the idea of Lesnar getting screwed will give them the chance for an intriguing build for their final match at WrestleMania unlike the Rollins/Cena finish which was only for publicity. )

After the match, it’s shown on the reply that Taker did indeed tap but the ref was focusing on counting Taker’s shoulders to the mat. Heyman rings the bell and he says everyone saw it. He declares that the winner was Brock Lesnar by submission.

8.0
The final score: review Very Good
The 411
People seemed divided on this show, as some people loved it and others hated it due to some of the poor booking. With the exception of Cena/Rollins and the Diva's Revolution match, the booking really didn't bother me like it has over the last few WWE PPVs and I thought in-ring wise this was a pretty damn good show. There was a ton of energy from a hot Brooklyn crowd and despite the four hour length, the show never felt like it dragged with the exception of the Diva's match. Rollins/Cena prior to the finish was tremendous and Lesnar/Taker had the awesome fight that their original WrestleMania match should have been. A lot of people who needed big wins got them and this showed lived up to expectations for the second biggest show of the year. This show is well worth checking out and I think this was one of WWE's best non-NXT efforts this year.
