Greg DeMarco’s Bold Predictions for WWE Extreme Rules
411Mania’s Greg DeMarco gets you ready for Sunday’s WWE Extreme Rules in style with 5 B.O.L.D. Predictions!.
On Sunday, April 26th, the WWE presents Extreme Rules pay-per-view, where WWE superstars get EXTREME…
…for the PG era.
Extreme Rules has the nearly impossible task of following WrestleMania, and the WWE isn’t doing themselves any favors pushing guys like Big Show and Kane into prominent positions on the card.
Personally I wish this were still called Backlash, where you can actually lean on WrestleMania for some credibility. But it’s not, it’s Extreme Rules!
So precisely what is going to happen at Extreme Rules on Sunday? For answers to that question you should check out our 411Mania Roundtable Preview!
Because contained below are bold predictions for the event. Not likely to happen, these are indeed B.O.L.D.: Bullheaded, Outlandish, Lascivious, and Deplorable. But if one hits, I can promise you’ll never hear the end of it!
Now then, let’s have some fun!
The Authority Is Too Much For Randy Orton
Two weeks ago on Raw, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton won matches that allowed them to select their own stipulation for the Extreme Rules main event. Seth Rollins banned the RKO (one week before his own Curb Stomp was banned for no good reason), and Randy Orton decided to remove The Authority from the match by putting it inside the unforgiving confines of a steel cage.
And it won’t work.
Kane has been positioned as the gatekeeper, and has been slightly at odds with The Authority. I don’t think this is a rouse, Kane is tired of being the whipping boy and could be headed for one last main event run before his retirement. A full-fledged face turn doesn’t happen here, but he will keep Seth Rollins from escaping the cage.
But what Kane will do is cause an inadvertent distraction that, first and foremost, allows Randy Orton to hit an RKO. He’ll cause another one later in the match that will allow J&J Security to help Seth Rollins win the match.
Chicago Will Take Over The Heel/Heel Divas Match
Paige won a battle royal to get a shot at the Divas Championship, held by Nikki Bella. Paige is a face and Nikki is a heel, which makes perfect sense to any wrestling fan.
Paige’s victory in the battle royal caused Naomi to turn heel, which is all fine and well. But then Paige was written out of the picture (apparently to film a WWE movie), and Naomi was inserted into the Divas Championship match at Extreme Rules…
…leaving us with a heel vs heel match on the card.
Yeah, like the picture above says, what the holy fuck.
Nikki is a heel, and Naomi is a heel. Chicago isn’t the type of city to give up on a match, they’re the type to take over. And that’s exactly what’s happening here. They’ll take over, chanting for AJ Lee, CM Punk, Jerry Lawler, JBL, and who knows what else.
The one thing they won’t care about? This match.
New Day. New…Champions?
The WWE seems serious about the New Day. Or at least, they seem serious about Big E. He appears on the Payback poster (if that’s even real), and he recently had a character released into the WWE Immortals game? Don’t think that’s important? The WWE does.
What does that have to do with the Extreme Rules Tag Team Championship Match? Believe it or not, everything!
Big E can be a dominant player in the match, be the catalyst for winning the titles, then move on to bigger and better things. What’s that thing?
John Cena and the United States Championship.
Yep, I went there. In a few months, The New Day can be Shield 2K15, holding the US and Tag Team Championships, just not quite as over. It could actually do a lot for all three of them, and I can see it happening.
No Plan? No Winner!
Dean Ambrose and Luke Harper are two of the reasons why the WWE’s midcard is possible the strongest it’s ever been. Both men are super talented, and both are killing it when given the opportunity.
But the WWE has no plan for either of them, which is why they’re feuding! And since there isn’t a plan, this feud will continue into the summer, including at Payback, the next PPV which is only a few weeks away.
The best way, at least in WWE thinking, to accomplish this is to have no winner for this match. There will be some spot that knocks both men out, leading to a no contest. Yawn? Maybe, but the match leading up to it will be great.
Bad News For Wade Barrett?
Daniel Bryan has been removed from the WWE for the time being, all thanks to injury. Whether or not he came back too soon is another article for another time. What we need to discuss is the Intercontinental Championship he was supposed to bring back to its former glory.
That’s obviously not happening anytime soon, at least not with Daniel Bryan.
The easiest thing to do is return the belt to its former holder, Wade Barrett. And I believe they’ll just that on Sunday, but it’ll only be temporary. The WWE will introduce a challenger into the mix, and Chicago will greet his entrance with quite the pop…
That’s right, the WWE finally has its reason to debut Finn Balor, and it’ll happen at Extreme Rules. When it does, the crowd will go wild. Balor will mean bad news for Wade Barrett, and will become the new Intercontinental Champion.
Bray Wyatt’s Newest Obsession Revealed
Bray Wyatt has been very focused over the last few weeks. Focused about…something. Who or what that is, he has yet to reveal.
That will be revealed this Sunday at Extreme Rules. I see three options:
Roman Reigns – Roman Reigns is in search of something to do, and feuding with The Big Show just won’t cut it. While there are rumors of a Seth Rollins vs Randy Orton vs Roman Reigns match for Payback, I think they can keep Roman away from the title picture for a while by feuding him with Bray Wyatt.
Wyatt is the perfect foil for Reigns, and a double turn could go over huge during the summer—immensely helping both men.
Rusev – Speaking of a turn, why not do it with Rusev or Wyatt through this feud? I think fans would honestly buy either man as a face. Rusev because of Lana and Wyatt because of…Wyatt.
The more likely scenario is Wyatt turning face here, and the only problem is John Cena being helped to a victory. Normally Cena wouldn’t forget that, but it’d be easy to have him ignore it and move on to his next feud after Extreme Rules is over.
Seth Rollins – Long shot? Of course it is. But that’s what Bold Predictions are for!
Rollins is the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and Bray’s obsessive nature hasn’t needed to worry about a title yet. But what if the shiny gold belt is his new obsession? Wyatt vs. Rollins hasn’t been overdone, and could be a great feud to take us through the summer as Randy Orton feuds with the rest of The Authority.
