Pop TV Not Paying TNA to Air Impact?
– While it was reported last week that TNA is not paying for airtime in their deal with Pop TV, it appears as if Pop isn’t paying TNA either. The WON reports that it is believed that Pop TV is not paying for the rights to air Impact on the network.
There are a lot of benefits to the deal, including a higher household penetration than Destination America had, but the “85 million homes” that Dixie Carter promoted the potential audience as isn’t necessarily accurate. The Observer sais that the number is actually around 74 million homes. WGN America is in the same number of homes but has a higher profile and ratings, suggesting that a deal with WGN was unable to be reached in a way that would have been viable to TNA. Destination America was in around 57 million households.
Overall this is considered to be a worse situation economically for TNA than Destination America, primarily because they were making money from Discovery Networks for the rights to air Impact. The site says that with Kurt Angle finishing up in two months, the only people making signficant money among the talent are the Hardy Boyz, Bobby Roode and Lashley.
