ROH Global Wars 2015 Night Two (ROH TV Tapings)
5-16-15
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Your hosts are Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino.

I’m essentially combing all four episodes of TV that made up the last night of the ROH/NJPW weekend and I’ll get to War of the Worlds Night Two at some point.

Airdate: 6/3/2015

The Briscoes promise to welcome Donovan Dijak to the jungle and Jay says Jay Lethal has no where to run tonight when they face the House of Truth.

Will Ferrara vs. KUSHIDA
Dropkick by KUSHIDA and he hits a cartwheel into the basement dropkick. Standing moonsault eats knees and Ferrara hits a swinging neck breaker for 2. Chin lock by Ferrera but KUSHIDA fights out. Enzuigiri from the apron by KUSHIDA and he snaps Ferrara’a arm off his shoulder. KUSHIDA cleans house and Ferrara comes back with a clothesline knocking KUSHIDA to the floor. Suicide dive into the Tornado DDT on the floor by Ferrara!!!! Back in, Ferrara hits a corner back elbow and follows up with a dropkick for 2. KUSHIDA attempts the Hoverboard Lock but Ferrara quickly goes to the ropes to block. Forearms by Ferrara but KUSHIDA comes back with a clubbing blow of his own. KUSHIDA goes up and hits the moonsault off the top for 2!!! Roll-up by Ferrara gets 2 as does a small package. Tilt-a-whirl into the Hoverboard Lock by KUSHIDA and Ferrara gives.
Winner- KUSHIDA *** (Fun little match. Ferrara looked pretty good here and KUSHIDA was game to let Ferrara have his chance to shine. A nice introduction to a first time ROH viewer and just a little taste of how good KUSHIDA is. )

The Addiction come out and offer reDRagon a shot at their ROH Tag Team Championships next week, but the offer is only for next week.

Silas Young vs. Watanabe
They trade forearms to start and Young stomps on the back of Watanabe. Back suplex by Watanabe and he hits a release German suplex. Watanabe puts Young on top and follows up. Young fights Watanabe off and he hits a flying clothesline off the top for 2. Forearms by Watanabe and he comes back with a clothesline. Neck breaker by Watanabe gets 2. Young works Watanabe over from the apron but Watanabe knocks him off with a lariat. Watanabe drives Young into the barricade and he hits a release German suplex on the floor!!!! Back in, Watanabe covers for 2. Young rolls through a backslide and kicks Watanabe in the head. TKO by Young gets 3.
Winner- Silas Young **1/2 ( Another nice little match. Watanabe has charisma and seems to have something, he just needs to fine tune his offense and he’ll make an impact when he returns to New Japan full time. )

BJ Whitmer w/Adam Page and Colby Corino vs. Moose w/Stokley Hathaway and Veda Scott
Before the match, Whitmer says he would wipe the mat with Moose and end his winning streak but he says he’s looking for new opportunities for his young boys. He seems to be talking to Page but he asks Colby if he’s ready for this opportunity. He tells Colby he is more of a man than his father and Colby slaps Moose. Moose tosses Colby to the floor and then tosses Colby into the barricade. Moose swings Colby into the barricade a few times and he hits two Apron Bombs!!!! Powerbomb on the floor by Moose and Page tosses Colby back into the ring. Moose covers Colby for 3.
Winner- Moose SQUASH (RIP Colby Corino. I really liked this angle, as Whitmer and Page look like total dicks for making Colby go through that and Moose destroyed him in brutal fashion. )

Truth Martini tells Jay Lethal they won’t get a preview of Best in the World tonight and he will take care of things.

House of Truth (Donovan Dijak and J. Diesel) w/Jay Lethal and Truth Martini vs. The Briscoes (Jay and Mark Briscoe)

Tag to Dijak and he works Jay in the corner. Tag to Diesel and Jay tries to fight out of the corner. Tag to Mark and it’s RED NECK FU~!!!! Shotgun dropkicks by Mark gets 2. Rolling Fireman’s carry by Mark and Martini distracts the ref, allowing Dijak to catch Mark with a big boot. Diesel covers for 2 as we go to break.
Back and Dijak tosses Mark away. Tag to Diesel and he hits a powerslam for 2. Fall-a-way slam by Diesel and Dijak tags in. He works over Mark in the corner and Diesel tags in. Mark fights out of the double team and Jay tags in. Jay cleans house and hits a sitting neck breaker on Diesel. He clotheslines Dijak to the floor and they hit the Doomsday Device on Diesel for 3.
Winners- The Briscoes **1/2 (<Pretty decent tag match. It was very paint by the numbers and Dijak and Diesel looked solid if unspectacular against the Briscoes and it worked to help the build to Best in the World. )

After the match, Dijak lays out Mark with a GTS on the floor. Jay hits a summersault plancha to the floor on Dijak and goes for the Jay Driller but Lethal saves. Briscoe catches Lethal with the Jay Driller and stands tall to end the show.

Airdate: 6/10/2015

The Addiction come out and says that due to a medical issue, Bobby Fish can’t compete tonight. He says tonight is reDRagon’s only chance at a rematch so he tells them to come out or forfeit the opportunity. Kyle O’Reilly answers the call and he is going solo.

ROH Tag Team Championships- The Addiction © vs. Kyle O’Reilly
O’Reilly fires away at the champs to start and he grabs the cross arm breaker on Kazarian before Daniels breaks it up. High/Low by the Addiction and Kazarian hits a gut wrench suplex. Spinning heel kick by Kazarian and Daniels works O’Reilly over. Kazarian accidently knocks Daniels off the apron and O’Reilly gets the O’Connor roll for 2. Baseball slide to Daniels and he tosses the Addiction into the barricade. O’Reilly drop toe holds Kazarian into the groin of Daniels and he hits the dropkick off the apron to the Addiction!!! Back in, O’Reilly hits the rolling butterfly suplexes into the cross arm breaker. Daniels nails O’Reilly with the belt for the DQ. Daniels nails the ref and they hit Celebrity Rehab onto the belt. Matt Sydal and ACH chase the Addiction out of the ring.
Winner by DQ- Kyle O’Reilly ** ( Just a short match and angle so I can’t really rip this since Bobby Fish not being able to get into Canada probably ruined their plans for what they wanted to do with both teams for the evening. )

Mark Briscoe tells Donovan Dijak he is going down at Best in the World in a way only Mark Briscoe can.

Dalton Castle vs. Jushin Liger
Liger takes Castle down into the rowboat and he turns it into the Mexican surfboard. Castle dumps Liger and back in, Liger knocks Castle off the apron with a chop. Castle swings into a hurricanrana on Liger on the floor as we go to break!!!
Back and Liger backdrops Castle to the floor. Baseball slide by Liger and he hits a Cannonball off the apron. Liger celebrates with Castle’s boys and this greatly upsets Castle. Castle takes Liger down and hits three big splashes on Liger for 2. Waistlock by Castle but Liger goes to the ropes to break. Vader Bomb by Castle gets 2 and he grabs the front face lock. Tit-a-whirl back breaker by Liger and he hits the sit-out powerbomb for 2. Brainbuster by Liger gets 3.
Winner- Jushin Liger *** ( This was a fun match. They did some fun comedy and they progressed into a solid contest where Castle got to look really good against a legend. Castle’s gimmick is starting to get really over and hopefully he can keep the momentum going. )

Jushin Liger helps pump up Cheeseburger backstage.

Bob Evans vs. Cheeseburger
Cheeseburger uses his quickness to evade Evans and he hits a dropkick knocking Evans to the floor. Thesz press off the apron by Cheeseburger and he hits a summersault senton off the barricade. Cheeseburger knocks Evans back into the ring with the palm strike but Evans trucks Cheeseburger to come back for 2 as he pulls Cheeseburger off the mat. Cheeseburger snaps Evans off the ropes and he hits a springboard knee strike knocking Evans to the apron. EVANS CATCHES CHEESEBURGER WITH A SIDEWALK SLAM OFF THE APRON THROUGH A TABLE!!!! Both men are out and the ref throws the match out!!!
Match ends in a No-Contest ** ( Another short angle that was boosted by the big table spot, as they took a lower tier rivalry and used that spot to actually give some juice to it and help make Cheeseburger a really sympathetic figure going forward. )

Jay Briscoe promises to bring Best in the World early if Jay Lethal tries to pull something in their contract signing next week.

The Kingdom (Michael Bennett and Matt Taven) w/Maria Kenellis vs. The Bullet Club (Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows)
Gallows attacks Taven as Anderson chases Maria on the floor. Bennett works over Anderson on the floor and Taven dropkicks Gallows to the floor. Suicide plancha to the floor by Taven!!!! The Kingdom dropkick Gallows off the apron and Taven super kicks Anderson into a Spear by Bennett. Asai moonsaul to the floor by Taven to Gallows!!! Anderson and Bennett trade blows in the corner and both men shove the ref. The ref can’t take control and throws the match out. The Bullet Club set up some chairs for the Magic Killer on Bennett but Maria distracts them. They grab her and go for Magic Killer but Bennett saves. Gun Stun by Anderson and Taven leaps off the top. Gallows catches him and they hit Magic Killer onto the chairs on Taven.
Match ends in a Double DQ **3/4 ( I was really digging the match early on, as I thought they were going to go a different route from their New Japan matches and go with a more heated brawl. This was actually one of Taven’s best outings in ROH, he was great here. The finish was super weak and I wished they kept rolling with the brawl they started off the match with as this could have been a surprisingly great match on the show. )

Airdate: 6/17/15

The Decade (BJ Whitmer and Adam Page) w/Colby Corino vs. War Machine (Hanson and Raymond Rowe)
Before the match, BJ Whitmer says Colby Corino needs another chance so now Corino is replacing Whitmer in this match. Rowe and Colby start. Rowe tries to tell Colby he isn’t ready so Colby saps him. Hanson tags in and hits a sidewalk slam on Colby. Tag to Rowe and he wants Whitmer. Colby still throws some shots so Rowe hits a back breaker/gut buster/ power bomb combo. Page refuses to tag in so War Machine hit a back suplex/ top rope leg drop combo onto Colby for 3.
Winners- War Machine SQUASH (Once again, RIP Colby.)

Cedric Alexander is in the ring and discusses how last year, he was considered the breakout star of ROH. He doesn’t feel like it now and he says it’s time for him to pick up some wins. He challenges Moose to a match.

They trade blows and Cedric clips Moose as he is going up. Corner dropkicks by Cedric and Moose comes back with a Spear. Scott passes a wrench at Moose but he doesn’t want to use it. Cedric nails Moose with the wrench for 3!!! Moose’s undefeated streak is over!!!
Winner- Cedric Alexander **1/2 ( Solid match but this is not where I would have done the Moose loss and the Alexander turn. They should have saved this for the PPV where it would have had a bigger impact instead of being done in this pile of tapings and it basically being an afterthought in the big picture. )

ACH and Matt Sydal vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tetsuya Naito
Tanahashi and Sydal start. Tanahashi overpowers Sydal and misses a dropkick, allowing Sydal to hit a standing moonsault. Naito and ACH tag in. They trade blows and Naito catches ACH with a dropkick. ACH throws some kicks and he hits a lariat for 2. Knee strike by Sydal into the German suplex by ACH gets 2. Dragon screw leg sweep by Tanahashi and he grabs the Texas Cloverleaf. Sydal breaks it up with a knee strike and Sydal body scissors Naito to the floor. Tanahashi and Naito block a springboard attempt so ACH hits the springboard summersault plancha to the floor!!! Tornado Flatliner by ACH and Sydal goes up. Shooting Star Press by Sydal gets 2 as Naito saves!!! Tornado DDT by Naito to Sydal and ACH hits an enzuigiri. ACH goes up for the 450 splash but eats knees. Slingblade by Tanahashi and he goes up. High Fly Flow by Tanahashi gets 3!!!
Winners- Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tetsuya Naito ***3/4 (This was an excellent tag match. Tanahashi had his working shoes on and he worked hard when he was in there. They two teams blended incredibly well and with Naito in the match it allowed for Sydal and ACH to get some hot nears falls and made it believable they could win this match. The stuff after the break was wild and it was a great showing from all four guys. )

Jay Lethal and Jay Briscoe come out for the contract signing for their match at Best in the World. Nigel McGuinness make it clear what the rules and stakes are in the match and both men sign the contract. Lethal says he won’t flip the table over and take Briscoe down now because he wants Briscoe at his best so he can prove he is the best at Best in the World. He says Briscoe signing the contract was as big of a mistake as his parents giving birth to him. Briscoe says that he going to beat Lethal so bad he’ll have to go back to being the Black Machismo. They have a stare down to end the show.

Knee strike by Strong but Nakamura catches him with Boma Ye! for 3!!!
Winner- Shinsuke Nakamura ***3/4 ( This wasn’t as great as people who were there live made it out to be this was still an excellent contest. It started pretty slow and it looked it was going to be similar to the Nakamura/ACH from the night before where the work was good but it wasn’t a high end Nakamura effort. Then the intensity picked up and when Strong dominated in the final stretch, it really got engaging and was exciting to watch. )

Elgin overpowers Gedo to start and he pokes the eyes of Elgin. Drop toe hold by Gedo and he throws some jabs at Elgin. Elgin comes back with a Samoan Drop for 2. Buckle Bomb into the Elgin Bomb gets 3.
Winner- Michael Elgin ** ( Pretty much a prolonged squash for Elgin and again, the non-reaction to him was pretty scary. Hopefully his G1 run will turn things around and the crowd get into him again. The talent is there but he just isn’t connecting with the fans for some reason. )

Chaos (Kazuchika Okada, Rocky Romero, and Barreta) vs. Bullet Club (AJ Styles, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson)
Styles and Okada start. Wheelbarrow roll-up by Okada gets 2 and the same thing occurs for Styles. Barretta and Nick tag in. Chops by Barreta and he hits a Northern lights suplex for 2. Tag to Romero and he hits a PK Kick into a standing moonsault by Barreta. Back senton by Romero gets 2 and he slams Nick. Tag to Barreta and Matt knocks him off the apron with a super kick!!! Suicide dive by Romero to Nick on the floor. Flying elbow drop by Okada to Nick. Springboard forearm by Styles to Okada and Nick catches Romero coming in with a superkick!!! Super kick to Barreta and Styles goes for the Styles’ Clash but Okada breaks it up with a dropkick!!! Everyone trades blows and Chaos eats super kicks!!! Okada tries to fight back alone but he eats a Pele/double super kick combo!!!! Triple piledriver on Barreta!!! MELTZER DRIVER~!!!! DOUBLE SUPER KICK INTO THE STYLES CLASH ON BARRETA GETS 3!!!!
Winners- Bullet Club ****1/2 ( My god, what an amazing main event. Everything after the break was some of the best action that I have seen in any match this year. They threw everything at each other and they got the crowd rocking for the whole duration of the match. The finish where the Bucks and Style flat out killed Barretta to pick up the win will go down as one of the best finishes of the year. You have to check this match out. )

7.0
The final score: review Good
The 411
I watched this show in the TV format but ROH has a DVD version of this show so I'll will review it as such. This was a tale of two shoes. There was a good collection of unspectacular matches and angles that served as the build-up for Best in the World so as a result the first two TV tapings from this show were kind of a drag to sit through. Then you have the ROH vs. New Japan portion of the show which was tremendous. Younger talents like Ferrara and Castle got to have solid outings with the New Japan talent and the final three matches of the tapings were better than most of the stuff on Global Wars Night One. That main event will be one of ROH's best matches this year and is must see. On the strength of the ROH/New Japan stuff this gets a recommendation but if you don't feel like watching the whole show, then checked out the third and four tapings in your free time.
