The 411 Wrestling Top 5: Hello everyone and welcome to 411 Wrestling’s Top 5 List. We take a topic each week and all the writers here on 411 wrestling will have the ability to participate and give us their Top 5 on said topic. So, onto this week’s topic…

Week 350 – The Top 5 Teams WWE Should Bring In For The Dusty Classic

They don’t have to be signed by WWE, but who are five outside teams you’d love to see WWE bring in for the Dusty Rhodes tag team classic?

Kevin Pantoja
5. Catch Point – Honestly, you could mix and match any members of Catch Point here. I’m not a big Drew Gulak fan, but he and Tracy Williams made for a damn good team in Evolve. Matt Riddle is highly entertaining despite being new to the business, Fred Yehi is one of my new favorite wrestlers and TJ Perkins is…well, TJ Perkins. If I had to choose two members for this though, it would be Yehi and Williams. They had an awesome match together back in January and I think they would work well as a team. They lost a tag match back at Evolve 66 (I think), but they could have some great matches with the other teams in the Classic.

4. Momo No Seishun – For those unaware, this is Atsushi Kotoge and Daisuke Harada. At the time of this writing, they held the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles over in Pro Wrestling NOAH and Kotoge also held the singles GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title. In my opinion, they are the best junior heavyweight team over in Japan not named reDRagon. Yes, better than the Young Bucks, Roppongi Vice, Ricochet & Sydal and anyone else you can name. They consistently have great matches and are super underrated. Give them a spot in the Dusty Tag Team Classic and watch them shine.

3. The Addiction – I just want to see Christopher Daniels completely succeed. The only two things he hasn’t done is work for WWE (not counting dark matches) and hold a World Title (get on that ROH). He and Frankie Kazarian have made this team work in a way that I never expected. The guy that I saw a weird gothic character ten years ago and as Curry Man, has made being a sleazy appletini drinker work. Kazarian is more enjoyable in this role than ever before. There’s good reason why they held the ROH Tag Team Titles for most of the year. Their performance in the recent Ladder War was great and they stole the show from the two younger tag teams.

2. The Motor City Machine Guns – I’ve wanted this for so long. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin were my favorite tag team during their run with TNA. Since then, I haven’t been able to say much since I don’t really watch ROH anymore. Still, Shelley and Sabin just work so well as a team. I don’t ever recall seeing a team move so quickly and so smoothly together. It amazes me and from the stuff I’ve seen since their reunion, they haven’t really missed a beat. Them against DIY, Ibushi and Itami and several other teams in the Dusty Classic would be, pun intended, classics.

1. reDRagon – An easy choice for number one. For the past few years, I’ve firmly believed that reDRagon was the best tag team on the planet. They don’t team as often anymore, so the Revival have surpassed them for the top spot. That’s exactly the match I would want to see most if Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish were able to find their way into this tournament. O’Reilly and Fish have a chemistry that is enthralling and they have good to great matches with pretty much every team they face. reDRagon would probably steal the show with everyone and have a MOTY candidate with the Revival.

5. The Rock n’ Roll Express – Yes, that’s right, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson are still out there and they’re still wrestling in 2016. From all reports, they’re not half bad at what they do, either. No, they’re not going to be brought back to WWE for a full-time run anytime soon, but they’ve got the chops to come in and do a tournament match or two in what would be a unique spot that would make sense given the Dusty Classic is built around honoring one of the RnRs’ contemporaries from Jim Crockett Promotions. Plus, it could serve as a nice tryout for whether Morton, who by any indication is one of the best performers in wrestling history when it comes to selling and psychology, fits into the NXT environment en route to potentially offering him a trainer’s spot.

4. Beer Money – I haven’t watched a lot of TNA over the last several years, but, from the limited amount that I saw, this was a pretty darn talented tag team. On top of that, they were fun when they periodically popped up in New Japan Pro Wrestling before the Carters burnt that bridge. Recently, it has been announced that Money (now known as Bobby Roode) will be joining the NXT roster full-time, so WWE just has to lure his partner Beer into the company and they’ll have a reunion of a skilled yet little-known team that could make an immediate impact.

3. The Colony – WWE has really surprised me lately with just how deep they’re dipping into the indies. Kevin Steen holds one of the company’s main championships, Lince Dorado of all people has popped up on Monday Night Raw, and Eddie Kingston was recently seen in NXT getting a tryout. However, WWE has yet to cross over into the most wacky and over-the-top aspects of independent professional wrestling, and it would be interesting to see them taking that step by bringing in the Colony has a one-off novelty act. Plus, if you bring in the Colony, you’re not just getting a novelty act, you’re getting a novelty act that can both bring the lolz and work circles around a lot of other wrestlers.

2. TenCozy – Much like when NXT brought in Jushin Liger a few months ago, it would be great to see these New Japan legends, who have done so much in their careers, get one opportunity in their twilight to set foot into the ring of the largest wrestling promotion in the world. Satoshi Kojima and Hiroyoshi Tenzan, who on most ballots were listed as the best tag team in the world in the early 2000s, are worn down some physically but still have gas left in their respective tanks and would have a lesson or two to teach the up and comers of the NXT brand. Also, these grizzled heavyweight hard hitters would be a nice contrast to the pretty boy high flyers that WWE has primarily been bringing in when it comes to Japanese wrestlers.

1. William Regal & Tajiri – I have a soft spot in my heart for this team. In addition to both of them being excellent professional wrestlers, they are also insanely charismatic MF’ers. Watching them together was comedic gold, and they were able to portray themselves as being true buddies through thick and thin. Plus, Regal is beloved by the NXT Universe, and Tajiri was well-accepted during the Cruiserweight Classic, so you would have a guaranteed heartwarming moment, when, after winning a couple of rounds, Regal & Tajiri are finally eliminated, preferably by the team that goes on to win the whole thing.

5. The Killer Elite Squad – The Killer Elite Squad (Lance Hoyt and Davey Boy Smith Jr) have become a great tag team since their WWE departures, working for the NWA, NJPW and NOAH. They are a bigger and more power based team than I will discuss s we move along, which gives us a different dynamic and they are also guys who know the WWE system.

4. The Briscoes – I love the Briscoes, they are a pair f hard worki9ng good old boys that want to be great but really don’t have a big ego when it comes to winning and losing. They are the kind of great team that you could bring in, tell them that they are losing in the first round but that they will get 15-minutes to show off their stuff and will be cool wit it.

3. The Colony – The Colony are my work horse team, because they not only work hard but they are group of guys that can work with anyone and make it work. From women to lucha to hosses, the Colony can work with them all and not only look good but they always make their opponents look great.

2. The Young Bucks – The Young Bucks have been one of the top tag teams for the past few years, and while they are not liked by many (mostly due to the fact that they aren’t a traditional ground of wrestlers and like to fuck with people) I’d love to see them tear things up with the NXT teams. The Bucks always try to steal the show and would have the place rocking.

1. The Broken Hardys – While not everyone’s cup of tea, the Broken Hardys have been one of the more entertaining things TNA has ever done. I find the TNA product very solid, some weeks even good, but it also feels a bit stagnant at times and it needed something fresh. The insanity of the Hardys was that something fresh and different, and has become my favorite part of the TNA shows these days. Watching then in Full Sail soaking in the big “smark reaction” and just having fun would be cool to see.
