The 411 Wrestling Top 5: Hello everyone and welcome to 411 Wrestling’s Top 5 List. We take a topic each week and all the writers here on 411 wrestling will have the ability to participate and give us their Top 5 on said topic. So, onto this week’s topic…

Week 307 – The Top 5 Favorite Tag Teams (Currently)

Who are the top 5 tag teams that are currently your favorite? DISCUSS!

Eric Palmer
5. The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) – Honestly, I’m not really a big fan of The Young Bucks in the North American indies. I think their spot monkey style is best suited in multi-team matches and card openers. NJPW is where I really enjoy these guys as they’re booked as the match to get the crowd going, and that’s exactly where they should be. They’re good, but their not as good as a lot of wrestling fans would have you believe.

4. Tyson Kidd & Cesaro – These guys are a ton of fun to watch. I was iffy on them at first, as they were just another thrown together tag team, but they play off each other so well. Cesaro is a guy that is the perfect tag team wrestler. When he’s part of a team or stable, he shows personality and charisma that he doesn’t show when he’s on his own during his singles runs. Their segments are really entertaining, and their matches, despite repetitive opponents, are usually really enjoyable.

3. The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Michael Bennett) – I don’t watch a ton of Ring of Honor these days, but lately I’ve found myself watching a lot more, and these guys are one of the big reasons. These guys have some solid chemistry and their matches are usually top notch. I’m not a big fan of them winning the IWGP Tag Team belts from Bullet Club, but I am very interested to see how they do with their biggest test to date. I’m really excited to see how their reign turns out.

2. The Lucha Dragons (Kalisto & Sin Cara) – Man, these guys are just a ton of fun to watch. Hunico has been doing really well under the Sin Cara mask and Kalisto is just incredible. I’ve read reports they want him to be the next Mysterio, and I think he has the potential to surpass him if they book him right and he can stay healthy. Every time these guys work, I find myself more and more impressed with them. They have really good chemistry, and their move sets, especially Kalisto’s, are just awesome. I’m glad these guys finally got the call to the main roster, and I’m really excited for the inevitable feud with Kidd and Cesaro.

1. Bullet Club (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) – This is the only pick on my list that was incredibly easy. Gallows and Anderson have been my favorite tag team for a while now, and nothing has changed. I think Anderson is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the world, and while Gallows is okay on his own, he is fantastic when teaming with Anderson. These two complement each other perfectly, and their IWGP Tag Team Championship reign was one of my favorite things to watch in NJPW. No question in my mind, these guys are the best tag team in the world today, and possibly the best tag team of the last five years or so.

5. reDRagon – For a long time, I always looked at the Briscoes as the standard bearer for tag team wrestling in Ring of Honor. Since then though, reDRagon has taken the world by storm. Not only have they had multiple runs with the ROH World Tag Team Titles, but they’ve been lengthy and sustained. I remember seeing Bobby Fish in 2007 and not being impressed. Now though, he’s damn good and I love Kyle O’Reilly. Not only have they killed in ROH, but they were the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions when I watched Wrestle Kingdom 9 and participated in a really fun opener. I missed a lot of ROH, but they’ve quickly shot up my list of favorite teams.

4. The Lucha Dragons – The original Sin Cara was an absolute mess. Hunico took over the role and I wasn’t impressed either. When he showed up on NXT and teamed with Kalisto though, things clicked. Sin Cara plays the more powerful role in this team, including his impressive schoolboy bomb, and Kalisto is just an absolute blast to watch. They have really grown on me and I love them as a team. It’s like, you can’t help but enjoy and cheer for them. Even if there are better teams in the world, these guys are just likable. Side note, the Usos would be sixth on this list.

3. The TimeSplitters – One of my absolute favorite wrestlers in the entire world is Alex Shelley. Whether it was the Embassy, Paparazzi Productions, the Motor/Murder City Machine Guns or his singles stuff, I’ve been a major fan for years. So it’s not coincidence that his current team, the TimeSplitters, are one of my favorite teams. Kushida and Shelley have won the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Titles before and are just a joy to watch. Alex Shelley is forever awesome.

2. Roppongi Vice – This is the newest team on my list but I can’t help but be enthralled by them. I liked the Forever Hooligans but there is just something about these two. Trent Baretta is someone that I’ve dug since his Dudebusters days and Rocky Romero has been someone I’ve enjoyed since the No Remorse Corps. Even though they are relatively new, they did just capture the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Titles and I was pretty stoked about that. They might just be the coolest tag team I can think of right now. I mean, have you heard their theme song? If you haven’t, you really should as it has been on repeat on my iPod for days now.

1. Tyson Kidd and Cesaro – I am a huge Tyson Kidd fan, especially when he developed some personality down in NXT. Cesaro is someone that I mainly appreciate more when he is in a tag team. Don’t get me wrong, I like his singles stuff but his work in the Real Americans and Kings of Wrestling has always been superior. Now, the WWE threw these two together and I figured it would just be a random pairing but they have lit the world on fire. Their chemistry is off the charts and they play off of each other very well. Their promos and matches are always damn good and I look forward to seeing them compete each and every week. I hope the WWE doesn’t decide to just split these guys down the line because they can be a vital part of the tag division for a long time.

5. La Sombra and La Máscara – It’s been a minute since I caught up on my CMLL action, but these two (along with Rush to form Los Indeseables) are usually a good time out. Forever playing hated faces, these two do a good job of riling up a crowd by playing up their “good looks” to the women, drawing big time boos from the fans. La Máscara has a reputation of being lazy in the ring, but I’ve yet to see him completely ruin a match. Besides, I wanted to get some lucha love in here.

4. Tyson Kidd and Cesaro – When they were first put together, I was not that jazzed. I’m a huge Cesaro mark, and this looked like stop 27B on the Cesaro Detour Roadtrip. Tyson Kidd had forever floundered in WWE, and I figured this would be another team like The Real Americans, there simply to lose to every other team on the roster. Slowly- but surely- these guys have really put it together. Great tag moves, and they’ve managed to make me care about them. I’m glad this team is finding success, and I hope that it continues for them both.

3. The Vaudevillains – I had seen them on NXT programming for a while, but getting to see them do their thing live at WWE Axxess gave me a whole new appreciation for Aiden English and Simon Gotch. Their entrance is fantastic. They play the characters perfectly. They have excellent moves, and they keep the crowd invested the whole time. Just a really fun team to watch, and that makes them an easy choice for my Top 5. I dread the day that they’re pulled up to the main roster and made to look like the most ineffective team this side of The Ascension, but, for my sanity, I’ll just not focus on that too much.

2. The Ascension – I don’t care. I don’t care that the thrill is gone, the fun is lost, and the show is over. I don’t care that they’re Jobber Team 2000 nowadays. I just don’t care. I love The Ascension. Two guys that walk around and beat the shit out of their opponents worked just fine in NXT, but for whatever reason, WWE felt the need to change them into weirdo semi-mutants who talk a big game and then lose every single time. Ah well. Much like with Adam Rose, I’m used to WWE royally fucking up good things from NXT. I still love Konnor and Viktor.

1. The Usos – I’ve been big on them since they first debuted, and nothing’s really stopped. They do everything pretty much fantastically, able to have entertaining brawls, or straight up wrestling matches. The injury to Jey Uso brings things down a bit, but I have no doubt that they’ll pick up exactly where they left off when they return. The Bay Area’s finest, gotta love The Usos!

5. reDRagon – They have held the tag team division together in ROH, are easily better together than apart and over the last few years they have been very good, but more importantly consistent. They offer something different, they do it well and I am rarely disappointed.

4. The Usos – I really like the Usos, for the simple fact that they are fun. They have a great energy, they always have fun matches and they always feel like they have no issue being a successful tag team. In WWE, in 2015, that’s a rare thing.

3. The Hardys – After all these years, simply put I am still a mark for the Hardys. They had some great matches last year in TNA with Team 3D and the Wolves, a great series on the indies with the Young Bucks and have now captured the TNA Tag Team Titles. After all of the shit they put their bodies through and after all of the horrible personal shit they put themselves through, the fact that they are still around in 2015 and delivering with quality is great to see.

2. The Bravado Brothers – These young lads were not much when they began. I know that you can say that a bout a LOT of wrestlers, but the Bravado Brothers did NOTHING to make me think that they could ever be an entertaining tag team, let alone a standout one. Their commitment to improvement is amazing as they have traveled a ton in order to learn more and perfect their craft. The brothers have put n the time, they have put in the work and when they are on a card I go out of my way to check it out. They have pit the work in, they have improved in all facets of the game and are a joy to watch.

1. The Young Bucks – The Young Bucks are my favorite act in all of pro wrestling. They put on great matches, they do not give a fuck about what the old school thinks, they travel the towns, they throw superkicks and clowns and they are sell outs… selling out towns, merchandise tables and living the life. There is no middle ground for these guys, you either love them or hate them. For me, I love watching them, I spend money on them and they are without a doubt worth it.
