The Name on the Marquee: Smoky Mountain Wrestling (8.6.1994)

This is the last of the old reviews, by the way.

-We’re in Warrensville, NC again.

-Night of the Legends is done, but Fire on the Mountain is coming up tonight!

DIRTY WHITE BOY (SMW Champion) vs. BRIAN LOGAN

-Logan is from Beckley, WV, so go Logan. Boot to the face by Whitey, and he follows by dropping the leg. Headbutt leads to the chokeslam for the three-count.

-Jim Cornette introduces us to the newest member of FITE, “Conan” Chris Walker, a roided-up blonde who appears to be the total opposite of anybody who would ever be on Jim Cornette’s radar. We look back at a battle royal where Corny & the Dirty White Boy are the final two men remaining. Corny does some great commentary explaining the “banana peel” that he happened to slip on while White Boy was trying to execute a clothesline. Walker makes his debut by running in to make the save, and it’s a total assault by Walker.

-Dirty White Boy wants to get down and get mean & nasty with Chris Walker tonight at Fire on the Mountain.

-Rock & Roll Express offers some final words about Fire on the Mountain. He promises a big surprise for the Hair vs. Hair match and shows a touched-up picture of bald-headed Tammy Fytch.

THRILLSEEKERS vs. CHRIS HAMRICK & ANTHONY MICHAELS
-Jericho monkeyflips Hamrick and follows with a German suplex for two. Hamrick charges, but Jericho kicks his leg out of his leg and causes Hamrick to fly into the ropes and crash on the mat. Lance Storm hops in and hits a bodypress off the middle rope on Michaels. Jobbers try some double-teaming, but Storm fights off both of them. German suplex with a bridge by Storm gets three.

-We go to Jim Cornette & the Heavenly Bodies. He warns the Thrillseekers that the Bodies still have one week to go in Smoky Mountain Wrestling, and that’s ample time for them to do a lot of damage.

-Thrillseekers promise to get their revenge.

-We get a Thrillseekers music video. They got the moves, and nothing’s gonna stop them!

-SMW King of the Mountain is coming August 13! The winner of the King of the Mountain match will receive $5000. The Thrillseekers will face the Heavenly Bodies again, and Bullet Bob Armstrong will battle Killer Kyle & Jim Cornette in handicap action.

DA GANGSTAS vs. SCOTT STUD & STEVE SKYFIRE
-Dropkick by Stud for a hot start. Skyfire tags in to add a backdrop. New Jack offers a little cheating from the apron to turn the tide, and it never goes the jobbers’ way again. New Jack tackles Skyfire and works the leg. He sarcastically screams “Rock and Roll!” while continuing to beat on the jobbers. Diving headbutt gets the win.

-Bob Caudle interviews Da Gangstas, while a disclaimer scrolls across the bottom of the screen. New Jack complains about having to wrestle in towns that don’t have airports. For some reason, it appears that the word “white” is getting bleeped throughout this promo. He tells the southern fans “You didn’t like Martin Luther King, and neither did I, because he’d turn the other cheek! I fight back!”

-Dory & Terry Funk offer some words about the Texas Death Match, invented by their father. Dory reminds me a lot of Bob Backlund when he cuts a promo. Terry can’t keep track of how many Armstrongs there are, but promises that all of his kids will be begging him to stop killing Daddy. Terry tells a story about his father wrestling Mike DiBiase in a Texas Death Match that went four hours and then going out dancing the next day.

-Corny has word for the Armstrong Boys and “the crotchety old fart in their corner,” Ron Wright.

-We get words from Road Warrior Hawk, who has been waiting to stick his fingers into Corny’s eye sockets and touch the cerebellum. He promises that enjoys anything that involves death, so I guess everything worked out then.

-We get some insanity from Ron Wright, who promises to wrap his cane around Corny’s neck and go for a victory walk afterward.

TAG TEAM TITLES: “Prime Time” BRIAN LEE & “Suicide Blonde” CHRIS CANDIDO (Champions, with Tammy Fytch) vs. SCOTT & STEVE ARMSTRONG

-Steve starts with Brian Lee. Boot to the gut by Lee, but the Armstrongs do some quick double-teaming to get the advantage. Candido shoulderblocks Steve but runs into a hiptoss and an armdrag. Scott tags in and applies an armbar. Candido gets a little offense but misses an elbow and just gets dominated.

-It takes Tammy to turn the tide for this match, hooking Steve’s leg and allowing Lee to attack from behind. Rocket launcher misses and Steve makes the hot tag. Scott’s a house of fire until getting a loaded purse to the face. Rock & Roll Express are outraged and head to the ring to KO Candido, which gets the Armstrongs DQed.

The final score: review Not So Good

Pretty "eh" offering, which always tended to happen on the weekends when Cornette booked a multi-event spectacular. You'd think he'd learn to stop doing that.
