Introduction
As a reminder, this will not be another traditional recap, but instead it will be a mash up of the Rs, Instant Analysis and my usual Twitter ramblings I would do during the shows; completely uncensored and as the ideas flow unfiltered to the old keyboard. Remember, this is a review; and I am here to review the show. As always, I encourage discussion and even disagreement, just do so in a respectful manner. I will be doing the review for Raw and most PPVs and iPPVs going forward.

WWE NXT 9.19.14

OFFICIAL RESULTS

  • Non-Title Match: Charlotte defeated Emma @ 4:05 via pin []
  • Hideo Itami defeated Justin Gabriel @ 3:30 via [**½]
  • Baron Corbin defeated CJ Parker @ 0:50 via pin [NR under three minutes long]
  • Titus O’Neil and Tyson Kidd defeated Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville @ 11:45 via pin [**¾]
    ~ ~ ~
  • From Full Sail University.
  • We get highlights from NXT Takeover: Fatal Four-Way. It was a really well done video package.
  • Monday Night Raw open time with… Titus O’Neil? He was here because Zayn, Breeze and Neville appeared on Raw and took time from him, so he’s returning the favor. Zayn appeared and mocked Titus or being a jobber and getting beaten up by bunnies, while the stars of NXT steal the show. Neville then appeared and said that he would be the one to defend NXT, and then Kidd came out. JESUS this IS just like a Raw promo. Way to take the ONE TV SHOW you have that is original and make it just like every other show. Lots of back and forth, Zayn is not happy with how Neville retained the title, Kidd thought it was great, Titus stood there and I wished he wasn’t. AND THEN Commissioner Regal made his way out; you know what’s coming…

  • More highlights from NXT Takeover: Fatal Four-Way.

Non-Title Match: Charlotte © vs. Emma: Small thing, I HATE when the champion is announced first. I always have, and I always will. Emma danced, which annoyed Charlotte, so she grabbed the title and held it high to show her superiority. Emma slapped it out of her hand and that led to Charlotte beating the piss out of her. This felt rough and disjointed, especially during Emma’s comeback. The good thing I can say is that while not great, at least the NXT Women’s matches get time and actually appear to be wrestling matches. Unlike the main roster where the time is short and we all await the skipping contest. I personally would have booked Charlotte in more of a squash match; she had a good match at Takeover, in a hard fought title defense. I would have had her get a quicker and more decisive victory here to keep her dominance clearly visible.

Hideo Itami vs. Justin Gabriel: At first look I love Gabriel as Itami’s debut opponent. Gabriel works hard, works a fun style and will likely look to have a fun match with Itami. I have to admit, it’s harder to get used to typing Itami more than I thought, and I never wrote a ton about KENTA. I was hoping for a bit of a faster paced match here, but it was a good debut. Gabriel sold well for Itami, who won clean with the double stomp. The Ascension, being poor losers, ran down and attacked Itami and laid him out with the Fall of Man. It all made sense. Added points for a run in without music.

CJ Parker vs. Baron Corbin: This is a rematch from NXT Takeover: Fatal Four-Way. Corbin destroyed Parker in under a minute in that match. Corbin actually got a ring entrance this time, unlike at Takeover. Parker got a few punches in this time, but the result was the same. Perfectly fine in that Corbin looked impressive enough, we’ll see where he goes in the weeks to come.

  • We get a highlight package of the hair vs. hair match from Takeover. Lefort still has his hair, so hooray for stipulations. Carmella got fired because the dog from the build to NXT video is bald. She wants a job, and she says Enzo and Cas will help her out. She tossed a medicine ball at Enzo and dropped him like a sack of potatoes. Cas “promised” Enzo that he wouldn’t post the video…
  • Next week is an NXT Takeover rematch between The Ascension and the new tag team champions, The Lucha Dragons. I’m fine with this, The Ascension were the longest running tag team champions, and getting a rematch makes sense.

Tyson Kidd and Titus O’Neil vs. Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn: This was set up from our Raw-like show opening promo. The early theme of the match was that Neville and Zayn were playing anything you can do I can do better. Zayn did Neville’s standing moonsault, and got better than Neville chants. So when Neville tagged in, he one-upped him with a standing, corkscrew moonsault. Later, Neville went for a dive, but Zayn blind tagged in and cut him off, and then hit the split legged moonsault to the floor. I like how they are building the story between these two. Titus stuck out like a sore thumb. He wasn’t bad, but Zayn, Neville and Kidd seemed to be working a certain style and speed, and then there was Titus. I will say that he did play the brute role well here. Zayn of course played Ricky Morton here, which is perfect because he’s such a tremendous face. We got a really good hot tag to Neville, who worked with Kidd, and Kidd sold it so well. Zayn tried to get Titus out of the ring, but the ref pushed him back to his corner, allowing Titus to toss Neville off the top, he ate knees and Kidd scored the win. This was a little slow and clunky in the middle, but an overall solid TV main event. To me this was more about the story. Zayn and Neville have their issue, and played it up during the match and then it led to some arguing post match. Kidd can claim he deserves another title shot because he pined Neville as well.

  • End scene.
  • Thanks for reading.

    The Tirade

I absolutely hated how they started this show. As I stated above, they took the one show that they have that actually feels fresh and made it feel exactly like every other show; revolving door promo, authority figure, tag team match playa. Seriously, don’t ruin something when it is working, I love that NXT feels so different, please do not make this like mini-Raw.

Carrying on. Charlotte scores another win after her successful title defense to keep her momentum going, Hideo Itami had a good debut and the attack by The Ascension made perfect sense following Takeover. Baron Corbin defeated CJ Parker again, I could have done without the repeat here. Why not have Corbin beat another jobber, then have Parker complain that he wasn’t prepared, and then do it next week? That little bit of change keeps you feeling different from the main roister. For example, the tag title rematch is NEXT week, not right away. The main event was a good and solid bout, and I really enjoy the dynamic between Zayn and Neville that they are crafting. Titus… is Titus. I don’t hate the guy, but he also doesn’t really entertain me either. He exists.

Overall this ended up being a fine show, not great, but an easy hour to watch that’s for sure.

    Show Rating: 6.5

As a reminder, I will be going by the 411 scale…

    0 – 0.9: Torture
    1 – 1.9: Extremely Horrendous
    2 – 2.9: Very Bad
    3 – 3.9: Bad
    4 – 4.9: Poor
    5 – 5.9: Not So Good
    6 – 6.9: Average
    7 – 7.9: Good
    8 – 8.9:Very Good
    9 – 9.9: Amazing
    10: Virtually Perfect

The final rating is not simply an average of the rated segments above. The rating takes them into account as well as the segments that are small but not scored, the flow of the show, the overall booking, build to PPV, crowd reactions, and so on and so forth.
