Truths and Lies: News on Alberto Del Rio, Brock Lesnar’s Next Opponent, More

September 9, 2014 | Posted by Justin Watry

Still have Derrick and Victoria! My prediction for the finals. Big Brother on CBS is nearing its summer end, and my two are still going strong. Amazing. Moving over to the NFL season beginning, the Seattle Seahawks stomped the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. Predictably, no big surprise there. I picked a 30-21 win for Seattle there; instead it was much worse. Oh well, we move on…

Discussing the wrestling scene, I hope everybody enjoyed my interview last week on the NoDQ website. I did not receive the usual pile of negative feedback, so that is a plus. Either that means nobody read it or nobody felt the desire to rip me apart like every other column I write. As for this column, I am giving the Truths and Lies concept another round. See how it goes.

Rusev Defeated Zack Ryder To “Send Him A Message” On RAW

Truth – Well, you see….um, well, Zack Ryder was receiving a big push recen….um, you see, Rusev never, never, never, never ever destroys lower card guys on the roster like Za…wait, um, WWE apparently ‘hates’ Ryder and to further that stance and you know, on Twitt…oh, screw it.

Lie – There is common belief that Vince Russo needed a filter during the Attitude Era in WWE. That is why he was so successful during that time period but bombed elsewhere for the next decade. He had the “filter” in Vince McMahon (and others). Take all the ideas, read through them, and keep the good but discard the bad. It was a fine system and worked to everyone’s benefit. I think we need a similar system with online reports. Scoop up all the stories, weed out the laughable and CLEARLY false made up BS (like this story) but post the reasonable news/rumors at your own discretion. Instead, the copy/paste websites have an assembly line of ‘copy, paste, post, copy, paste, post, copy, paste, post’ one after another without any pause. Any thought. Any integrity. Any morals. Any actual reporting. Any first hand source. Anything whatsoever. That is how trash like “Rusev beat Ryder to send him a message” in September 2014 gets posted and spread around in an instant. We really need a filter. Any volunteers?

TNA Impact Wrestling Wants To Sign Alberto Del Rio

Truth – I never had any issues with Alberto Del Rio. Usually solid in the ring. Put on good matches. Very reliable in any situation – quick filler feuds, middle of the card, main event champion, etc. Defined character and a credible heel. Yeah, he was overpushed to the moon with his Royal Rumble victory, Money in the Bank win, and multiple WWE/World Title reigns. I get it. However, just as a performer, he more then held up his end of the bargain, even if he never did live up to the allure of some huge draw WWE probably hoped for. In that sense, I can see why TNA Impact Wrestling would want him on their roster. I can absolutely understand it.

Lie – Alberto Del Rio seems content wrestling in Mexico. The man is not hurting for cash and/or desperate for a payday at all. He can stay out of the United States for the rest of his career and be just fine. Since this is TNA we are talking about in 2014, excuse me for assuming they can not exactly offer Del Riiiiiiiio that much money right now. The company has no DVD distribution, no live events scheduled, no television deal past the end of the year (or they would be off the air in three weeks otherwise, pretty sad to think about), budget cuts everywhere, etc. Yeah, somehow I doubt TNA is in a position to be hiring ADR anytime soon. Just a hunch. Never say never though.

Big Show To Face Brock Lesnar After WWE Night Of Champions

Truth – Brock Lesnar is going to need a few big opponents coming up in the Fall season. We all know that. My guess has been Batista for a few weeks now. Names like Sheamus, Mark Henry, and Randy Orton have been thrown out there. However, leave it to our lovely insiders to inform us that it will actually be the Big Show who may be next in line to challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Title after Night of Champions. Despite Show getting crushed by Brock earlier in the year and despite Show showing signs of a heel turn and feud with Mark Henry last Monday night. You know, actual things happening and not click baiting guesses/speculation…but hey! We have to rile up the internet folks with made up, false manure, and nothing succeeds at that better than talking about a Big Show main event, so have at it!

Lie – A follow up report online said that at WWE Night of Champions, Brock Lesnar would either retain his title, John Cena would win the title, OR Seth Rollins would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the title. Seriously, no joke. That was legitimately presented as news. Either Lesnar will win, Cena will win, or Rollins will cash in MITB. Yep, from the exact same source that mentioned Big Show was next in line to face Brock Lesnar after the September pay-per-view. Do I even need to explain this? Yet, hook, line, and sinker like every other headline. Everybody gobbled it up, and life moved on.

Two Ring Announcers Almost Cut By WWE

Truth – I have no idea what they make. I have no idea what their salary is. I have no insight on their paycheck, but it has been clear for a few weeks now that WWE is looking at cutting some extra costs to offset the WWE Network launching. If that means hiring younger and cheaper ting announcers, it would not surprise me one bit. Bring up a guy or gal from NXT for a test run. It may save $100,000 per year or so – just a guess there. If it works, great! If not, then so be it.

Lie – This story felt like a cheap shot for no reason. Somebody within WWE wanted to take a jab at the ring announcers and leaked this report. That is what I gathered. Why was there never anything reported before on this? Now that their jobs are apparently safe, THEN it is reported?! Make no sense. Felt like somebody (geez, I wonder who!) making something up that could not be proven because now they keep their jobs. Thus, we will never know if the two were in danger or if somebody needed more clicks for a wrestling website. I can do that: “Sources say John Cena and Randy Orton were going to get cut last month due to ongoing budget cuts, but they are now safe!” See what I mean? I made that up, and it is clearly false and BS. Yet, nobody can ever prove it one way or another because they are now safe and not in any danger of being fired. Hey, maybe I am wrong here and all of these laughable reports are actually truthful? Could be an option, right?
