Why Bray Wyatt Should Defeat The Undertaker At WrestleMania 31

The Undertaker has become synonymous with WrestleMania, and after seeing his streak end last year is in a very interesting showdown with Bray Wyatt. 411Mania’s Greg DeMarco examines why Bray Wyatt should win—and why he won’t—in this edition of DeMarcoMania.

Greg DeMarco is a wrestling fan of over 31 years, dating back to less than 6 months before the first WrestleMania. I’ve watched every WrestleMania live and attended one in person. I’ve suffered and cheered, been shocked and amazed. Basically, I’ve grown up with WrestleMania.

I’m excited to lend that perspective to this very special preview series for WrestleMania 31. From my analysis of the Money In The Bank Cash-In to my B.O.L.D. Predictions, you’ll be more than prepared for Sports Entertainment’s Grandest Stage after my preview.

Welcome to my world. Welcome…to DeMarcoMania.

Dating back to WrestleMania VII, The Undertaker has become a fixture at the WWE’s annual WrestleMania extravaganza, appearing at all but two such events since his debut. And up until WrestleMania XXX, he never lost.

But thanks to Brock Lesnar, The Streak is dead.

Many wondered if The Undertaker would retire, but that question was definitively answered once Bray Wyatt’s challenges were revealed to be targeted at The Phenom. While the WWE teased The Undertaker’s response, once the challenges were acknowledged we all knew where this was headed. The Undertaker would accept and go into battle at WrestleMania one more (final?) time, against the “New Face Of Fear” in Bray Wyatt.

The Bray Wyatt vs. Undertaker showdown is one of the harder matches to pick on this year’s WrestleMania card, simply because there are reasons why either result could happen. Well good ol’ Greg DeMarco is here to tell you why Bray Wyatt should defeat The Undertaker…and why he won’t.

Bray Wyatt Should Defeat The Undertaker At WrestleMania 31

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but a new guard is slowly moving into place in the WWE. It’s not the quick change like we’ve seen in the past. This is good, as the quick change in the past usually lead to a downturn for the business as a whole…and that’s not best for anyone’s business!

John Cena’s lone world title run came as a result of a Daniel Bryan injury, rendering him a transitional champion and a vehicle to get the title onto Brock Lesnar (know this—Daniel Bryan was originally going to be destroyed by Brock Lesnar). For the second year in a row, Cena is far from the main event, this time facing off with Rusev for a title he last held over a decade ago.

The main event features Brock Lesnar (likely) dropping his world championship to Roman Reigns, the company’s next golden boy, who will (likely) drop the title immediately to Seth Rollins, the company’s next golden heel.

At the same time, The Undertaker is slowly being phased out of the WWE. The Streak is over, and it’s time for a new act to take his place. Despite being a tad more realistic (but only a tad), Bray Wyatt appears to be that act, and “The New Face Of Fear.”

You add it all together and the time is now for Bray Wyatt to get a big WrestleMania victory over The Undertaker. Bray can’t have The Streak (that’s gone and hasn’t been mentioned during the build by anyone not named Bray Wyatt), but he can end The Deadman. Sister Abigail is already a believable finisher, imagine what it means when it’s the move that put The Phenom down.

We should find out, because the right call—the only call in my opinion—is for The Undertaker to put on a brave fight but go down swinging to Bray Wyatt. The New Face Of Fear would be in place in the WWE, and it’s a needed piece of the puzzle.

Yes, despite being a “must,” Bray Wyatt is in no way a lock to win at WrestleMania. Quite the contrary, actually…

Bray Wyatt Will Not Defeat The Undertaker At WrestleMania 31

Bray Wyatt NEEDS to win at WrestleMania, yet he won’t. And if that doesn’t frustrate you to no end, you simply don’t “get it.”

The time is now to build the next generation. The company wasn’t ready for Hulk Hogan or Steve Austin to step away, and it showed. They are taking steps to prepare for the eventual departure of John Cena, but the generation won’t be built on Cena’s replacement alone. Vince McMahon needs Bray Wyatt to be legitimized in the eyes of the casual fans, and going over The Undertaker will do it.

But will Vince have The Undertaker lose at WrestleMania for two straight years? To quote the CEO himself, “No Chance In Hell!”

Vince McMahon is oddly emotional at certain times, and I’m sure the decision to end The Streak bothered him to no end. The Undertaker is a year-to-year proposition for WrestleMania, and you can’t have him leave without giving up sports entertainment’s most prized title. That’s why Vince likely felt it necessary to have Brock Lesnar assume the mantle of “1 in 21-1.”

Vince likely feels indebted to ‘Taker, and his own personal guilt will ensure that The Undertaker comes out on top. I’m sure it’ll be justified by Bray Wyatt kicking out of at least one Tombstone Piledriver along the way, but the lasting memory of this match will forever be The Undertaker crossing Bray Wyatt’s arms, sticking out his tongue and rolling his eyes into the back of his head as the referee counts the 1…2…3 on everyone’s favorite nutjob.

It’s the wrong decision, but it’s the one that will be made.

YOU DECIDE!

Looking at the behind-the-scenes situations at play and the future being at hand, do you really believe Bray Wyatt will go over The Undertaker? Or will The Deadman pick up another WrestleMania victory?
