WrestleMania 32: A Realistic Look Ahead To WWE’s Next Biggest Night

April 13, 2015 | Posted by Greg De Marco

It’s never too soon to look ahead to WrestleMania, and 411Mania’s Greg DeMarco takes a realistic look at wrestling’s biggest night.

We’re barely two weeks removed from Sting’s in-ring WWE debut, Daniel Bryan’s ladder match Intercontinental Championship conquest, Ronda Rousey’s WrestleMania moment and of course Seth Rollins’ historical WrestleMania Money In The Bank cash-in.

But the WWE never stops thinking about—and planning for—the next WrestleMania, and neither should we. So what can we (realistically) see happen at what will in all likelihood be the biggest event in WWE history?

Last week I wrote about a match that caused many to call me crazy…among other things. That match was Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H, a match that I believe would pull 100,000 fans into Dallas’ AT&T Stadium in 2016. You can read about it here.

And while I believe that match could put more eyes on Sports Entertainment than any other, I am also being realistic here. That match isn’t on my card.

So what do I think the WWE could realistically do to pack ‘em in for WrestleMania 32?

WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Roman Reigns (champion) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

The Shield Triple Threat Match…a match made in WrestleMania heaven. The WWE has (thankfully) yet to pull the trigger on this match, and I’m willing to bet they’re saving it for WrestleMania 32. Roman Reigns is a Royal Rumble winner and a WrestleMania main eventer. Seth Rollins is a Money In The Bank winner and a surprise WrestleMania main eventer. 2015 could easily see the rise of Dean Ambrose, WrestleMania main eventer.

The formula is easy:
• Dean Ambrose wins Money In The Bank
• Roman Reigns wins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series
• Seth Rollins wins the 2016 Royal Rumble

The night after the Royal Rumble, Rollins is face to face with champion Reigns when Ambrose comes out and announces his intention to add himself to the WrestleMania main event thanks to his golden ticket—the Money In The Bank briefcase. The Authority balks, making him defend he briefcase in an Elimination Chamber match at WWE Fastlane. Ambrose does just that, and the Shield Triple Threat is a reality.

The Rock (with Ronda Rousey)
Vs. Triple H (with Stephanie McMahon)

Yes, I wrote about Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H at WrestleMania 32, and as I said earlier I maintain that it is the biggest match the WWE could possibly do. But I don’t think it’s realistic enough to list here.

But Ronda Rousey in The Rock’s corner for a showdown with Triple H? I believe Vince McMahon and Dana White could make that happen. And as far as consolation prizes go, that’s not a bad option at all.

I was watching the infamous “Silverdome/Superdome” opening segment featuring The Rock, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 30 on Friday when I realized The Rock has now appeared at 5 straight WrestleMania events, competing at two. His presence at WrestleMania 32 is an obvious choice, and given their last two interactions a match with he and Triple H seems equally obvious.

The Undertaker vs. John Cena
Special Guest Referee: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin

WrestleMania should, and likely will, serve as the “final resting place” for The Undertaker. The Deadman takes center stage one more time, but it’s not against Sting. While that is the match many want to see, neither man is really capable of carrying the other to a WrestleMania quality match, rendering that, simply, not best for business. But who, then, can end The Undertaker’s amazing run in the WWE?

Enter John Cena.

John Cena has been the face of the WWE for a decade now, and while his own run at the top is closer than ever to being over, it’s not done yet. The Undertaker is a man of respect, as is John Cena. Undertaker ended Shawn Michaels’ career, and I can easily see John Cena ending Undertaker’s.

Add “Stone Cold” Steve Austin into the mix as it’s his own home stage, and he himself has had some legendary battles with The Phenom.

Despite the matches listed above it in this article, this could very well go on last at WrestleMania.

Sting vs. Bray Wyatt

With The Undertaker tied up with John Cena, Sting is left without a WrestleMania opponent for what would likely be his final curtain all. The best man for the job? Bray Wyatt.

Bray Wyatt has taken one for the team…twice…at the past two WrestleManias. He lost to John Cena at 30, and then put The Undertaker over at 31. Bray Wyatt finally gets on the winning side at WrestleMania 32 with a win over the retiring Sting. It would be a nice feather in the cap for Wyatt, a man who amazingly talented and can easily carry the mantle of “Sports Entertainment” with his antics in the supposed “Reality Era.”

Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton

Randy Orton is an opponent for Brock Lesnar that the WWE has only briefly mentioned, but it’s one that fans should love. Orton vs. Lesnar would be an all out war, but it’s a war that I could actually see Orton winning. He has the RKO, which he can of course hit Outta Nowhere, including out of an F5.

The build would be great as well. Paul Heyman claiming Orton has been spoon fed everything since his debut, Orton continually trying to tell Lesnar to stop letting Heyman do his talking for him…the eventual brawl…the eventual RKO to Heyman. Imagine the RKO to Heyman in Philly? Amazing heat.

Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship
Daniel Bryan (champion) vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Finn Balor vs.
Hideo Itami vs. Neville vs. Damien Sandow

No brainer? I’m thinking so. Finn Balor heading to the main roster appears to be a lock, as does Hideo Itami heading there before next spring. You build your needed prestige in the Intercontinental Championship by keeping it on Daniel Bryan for the entire year (move it to Ziggler if Bryan has injury issues), and establish all of the challengers during the Road To WrestleMania. Keep it simple, and let these guys entertain on the grand stage.

And whatever you do, do NOT move them to the Kickoff special!

As for this being a ladder match again? The WWE has proven before that they can be “creatures of WrestleMania habit.” Battle Royal? Check. Tag Team 4-Way? Check. Intercontinental Championship Ladder Mach? I’m thinking check.

United States Championship
Sheamus (champion) vs. Rusev vs. Bad News Barrett vs. Ryback

The great thing about this card is there is room for everyone on the card. Here you have three heels, but two that I think fans will want to support in Rusev and Bad News Barrett. Plus you have that Lana wildcard. Where does she go in the next 12 months? And Ryback, because Ryback.

Divas Championship
Paige (champion) vs. Nikki Bella vs. Brie Bella
vs. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte vs. Naomi vs. Natalya
vs. Cameron vs. Eva Marie vs. Bayley

Sasha Banks and Charlotte move up to the main roster, and Bayley qualifies through an NXT event. The WWE didn’t throw out the all-Diva WrestleMania match this year, but I see them bringing it back next year to get them all on the card.

That’s eight matches, leaving us with the old standbys:

Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

4-Way Tag Team Championship Match

And yes, they likely end up on the Kickoff. I think the other either matches stay on the main card, since you already have The Rock in action and Austin as a ref—neither need segments.

WrestleMania 32, as I would build it out from today. What are your thoughts for what is likely the biggest WrestleMania of all time?
