Wrestling’s 4Rs: The Right, Wrong and Ridiculous of WWE Smackdown

How the 4Rs of wRestling Work!
Here is a quick explanation of the 4R’s. The column will run TWO-THREE times a week. We will group our feelings on the shows in various categories: The Right, the wRong and the Ridiculous. The Right is stuff that worked very well: a great promo, a great match and so on. PuRgatoRy is a section between the right and wrong. It shows equal traits from both sides that cannot be ignored and needs discussed. It is not a bad place per say, as things can get remedied or go the wrong way the very next week. The wRong is what it sounds like: bad matches, bad or boring promos and so on. The Ridiculous is stuff that had no right on TV: Stupid angles and so on. And there is always a possibility of a 5th R, which is as bad as they come. This column is supposed to be analytical, and at the right time very critical of the shows, it was the whole reason it was created. This is not a “mark” column, nor a “smark” column, our goal is to analyze the show from many different fronts, reward the good and call out the bad. We will not apologize for our opinions, they are as they are, whether positive or negative.

Smackdown 5.12.16

– Rusev defeated Sin Cara @ 3:10 via submission
– Dana Brooke defeated Becky Lynch @ 2:53 via pin
– Aiden English defeated Kofi Kingston @ 3:50 via pin
– The Usos defeated Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson @ 11:00 via DQ
– R-Truth and Tyler Breeze defeated Fandango and Goldust @ 1:35 via pin
– Kevin Owens and The Miz defeated Cesaro and Sami Zayn @ 11:30 via pin

THE Right:
Dana Brooke Vs. Becky Lynch: I thought this was a pretty decent match. I really enjoy watching Lynch work and Dana is the type of heel who annoys me enough to want to see her face punched in. With that being said, Dana getting the win in the fashion that she did here was the right move. Can’t wait to see where this may go.

Aiden English Vs. Kofi Kingston: This match was fun. Nicely paced and I appreciated the heel tactic on English’s part to win. The way English won was enough to make this right in my book. Small heel acts have been sorely missed in modern WWE.

Make Darren Young Great Again: As I’ve said before, I’m just glad that they are trying something. Bob is so erratic that it is sure to be entertaining, and I’ve always liked Darren. I just hope that this goes somewhere prominent in the mid-card.

The Golden Truth: I’ve been complaining for weeks about this eventual teaming taking way too long. It seems as though we are finally going to see the payoff of this angle. It’s about time.

The Shining Star of the Caribbean: Much like The Golden Truth, it’s time that we see this thing move forward. I don’t expect them to make a huge impact, but I am glad that they are finally set to ‘debut’.

puRgatoRy:
Jericho/Ambrose: I liked everything about the opening segment except for the strait jacket. I found it very corny that we were supposed to believe that Jericho incapacitated Ambrose enough to strap him in one. It kind of dulled the segment for me.

Rusev/Kalisto: I’m glad that they are giving the US Championship focus. I can even appreciate giving Kalisto some time to talk so that we can connect with him. However, Kalisto is so boring and corny on commentary that I couldn’t connect. You can tell he’s uncomfortable and driving home what he’s told to talk about. (Rusev’s anger) It just didn’t work for me.

Gallows and Anderson Vs. The Usos: Okay, so this was a really good match in my opinion. I hate to list it in purgatory for that reason. But, I feel like it has to go here. With this feud that has been taking place, this match should have been saved for Pay-Per-View.

The Miz and Kevin Owens Vs. Sami Zayn and Cesaro: I enjoy all four of these guys, so going in I automatically expected the match to be entertaining. I’ve just never been a fan of guy’s physically interacting in the confines of a match prior to the big show. In my opinion it is lazy booking. You can’t just throw all four guys in a match and make me care about the overall angle.

I truly felt like this was a ‘middle of the road’ Smackdown. Yes, I was able to list more good things than bad things, but the good things are mostly ‘fluff’ and held no weight. This episode was merely passable in my opinion.
