WWE Smackdown House Show Results 6.24.17: Rollins vs. Mahal, More
Credit: PWInsider
It was a good crowd at Rogers Arena. It’s been years since WWE last ran this building. Lately they’ve either been at the smaller AgroDome or out in Abbotsford, which is an hour’s drive from downtown Vancouver.
The ring announcer gets it going and is interrupted by the Singh Brothers and Jinder Mahal. They’re hometown boys and get a huge reaction. Jinder announces that Shinske couldn’t get into the country and would therefore have to forfeit his World title match. They call for a referee and Charles Robinson comes out to start counting to 10. Seth Rollins music hits and the Raw superstar is in the house! He says his good friend Daniel Bryan called him and asked if he’d wanted to come tonVancouver and challenge the champ. Seth said there was only one word he could give him: yes! The match is made for later tonight.
Triple threat tag title match is next.
Usos vs Breezango vs New Day.
Great comic chemistry between Breezango and New Day – crowd is eating it up. Usos go over by pinning Fandango.
Aiden English vs Luke Harper
The crowd treats English to a “get some sun” chant. Harper wins a good, competitive match.
Mojo Rawley, Sin Cara & American Alpha vs The Ascension, Erick Rowan & Epico
Chad Gable gets the pin on Epico.
Natalya vs Charlotte
Massive pop for Nattie. It’s role reversal tonight as Nattie’s working baby face and Charlotte is full on heel. She even offers Nattie a handshake but sucker punches her. Great great great match. Nattie wins by submission with a sharp shooter.
United States Title Match. Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn vs Rusev.
KO is wearing the t-shirt they’re selling tonight with the Canadian flag in his initials. When he’s announced as being the new face of America, he pulls the ring announcer aside who then says Kevin is and always has been, the face of Canada. Another great match. All three look great. Owens wins by pinning Sami.
Intermission.
The two merch stands that I passed on my way in now seem to be sold out of Jinder Mahal shirts. There’s a strong south-Asian community in Metro Vancouver and they came out big tonight.
Tye Dillinger vs Baron Corbin
Tye gets a lot in but Corbin wins it with the End of Days.
Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Carmella & Tamina
Naomi pins Carmella.
Main Event time!
It’s Jinder vs. Seth and the Singh Bros are at ringside.
The crowd is loving this match with “this is awesome” chants and duelling “Lets go Rollins” / “Lets go Jinder” chants. Seth appears to have the match won with a frog splash off the top, but the Singh Bros interfere and cause the DQ. Crowd goes nuts. The beatdown on Rollins begins and the Singhs bring a table into the ring. Seth turns the tables (so to speak) on the heels, clears the ring of the Singhs and puts Jinder through the table. After Jinder & the Singhs leave the ring, Seth grabs the mic and puts over how awesome the crowd is. Says “anytime the WWE is in Vancouver, count me in”.
The crowd really was amazing tonight. It’s been over a decade since WWE has done TV here. Hopefully that’ll change soon.
So long from Vancouver!
