UPDATED: WWE Writer Once Pitched Gay Character For Brock Lesnar
UPDATE: Former WWE writer Seth Mates took to Twitter to comment on Brian Solomon’s claim that he pitched a gay gimmick for Brock Lesnar. Mates said that the idea was pitched but that some details of the story were inaccurate:
ANYONE within WWE could pitch ideas to creative; just because they did does not mean that certain ideas were ever actually on the table

Some bad info out there today, including the names of those who did pitch, when it was done, etc … though yes, there was such a pitch

ORIGINAL: One of WWE’s magazine writer, Brian Solomon, reportedly pitched the idea to WWE of having a gay character in 2002 which would have been Brock Lesnar. The idea was that the character would be a tough guy who had none of the stereotypes but would instead by a “kick-ass main eventer”. He pitched the idea directly to Stephanie McMahon. He thought that fans would be shocked to see an unstoppable force like Brock Lesnar revealing himself to be gay and pushed as the top babyface. WWE thought they would get a lot of support from the gay community along with the media for having a “progressive character”.
Those who pitched the idea never heard anything else about it, but it did go to the writers room. It was shot down by the older agents in the company who thought it was a bad idea, but eventually led to the Billy and Chuck angle.
