Heroes of Baldur's Gate

The lead designer of Baldur’s Gate I and II is diving back into the Forgotten Realms city with a full adventure for Fifth Edition D&D. James Ohlen, the former Senior Creative Director of BioWare, has released Heroes of Baldur’s Gate on DM’s Guild. The 160 page book is available in standard PDF or Hardcover. Ohlen wrote the adventure along with Jesse Sky.

Since leaving BioWare, Ohlen started the publishing company Arcanum Worlds which has a Kickstarter going for Odyssey of the Dragonlords, which brings an Olympian mythology-based setting to Fifth Edition. That Kickstarter is funded at 484% of its $50,000 goal thus far with fifteen days still to go.

Heroes of Baldur’s Gate will feature four new epic backgrounds, a feature first introduced in the Odyssey of the Dragonlords supplement, which unlocks new powers as the characters fulfill their goals and motivations. It also includes eight unique monsters and magic items as well as maps for maps for Baldur’s Gate and the surrounding regions of the Sword Coast, as well as a host of NPCs from the Baldur’s Gate video games like Minsc, Viconia, Jaheira, Imoen, and Edwin.

The adventure, which is designed for levels 1 through 6, is described as follows:

The city of Baldur’s Gate is the pride of West Faerûn—a mercantile stronghold ruled by the famous Grand Dukes. One year ago, a powerful merchant leader named Sarevok nearly catapulted the city into war with the neighboring nation of Amn. This crisis was averted, and the remnants of the organization were scattered throughout the Sword Coast.

Now, the city is threatened from within by agents of the nefarious Zhentarim, who seek to fill the power vacuum left behind in the wake of these events. Meanwhile, the Shadow Druids plot to destroy the city by performing terrible rituals, deep within the Cloakwood. Who will rise to oppose them?
