Become an Angel in New Prophecy-Inspired RPG Relics

April 11, 2019 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Urban fantasy is a popular niche within the RPG world, and Relics is the latest to jump into that setting. Steve Dee’s Tin*Star Games has launched a Kickstarter for the game, which sees players take on the role of angels who have returned to Earth to fight evil — only to find out that they didn’t have much they could do to help and now have to figure out what to do next with their lives.

Relics is described as a game inspired by films like The Prophecy, Dogma and Wings of Desire. In the game, players take on the role of angels. As the synopsis reads, the angels are “trapped on earth now the gates to heaven have closed forever. Powerful celestial items are scattered through human history and the cold war between light and dark has turned into a mad arms race. Control the Relics and you control the world – but first you must find them. A unique flashback mechanic reveals the intertwined history of these ancient beings, solving the mysteries around them by uncovering their own memories. Players find themselves unreliable narrators of their own pasts, while also facing the complex moral questions of their own future. The setting is full of secrets about the origins of angels and humanity, as well as complex questions about morality, philosophy and religion. Plus you can kill demons with giant flaming swords.”

Tin*Star has released a video describing the mechanics for the game. There is also a Pay-What-You-Want Quick Start Guide on DriveThruRPG.

As of this writing, the game has reached $7,461 of its $13,596 goal only a day in, with twenty-eight days to go. You can contribute to the Kickstarter here.
