If you wanted a chance to sample Black Ops 4 before you made the decision to buy it, you will soon have your chance. Treyarch and Activision announced this week that there will be a free trial for the game’s popular Battle Royale mode starting Thursday, January 16. The Blackout Free Trial will be available for the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

The Blackout Free Trial will include all the action from the Battle Royale mode, which brings together characters, locations, weapons and gear from all across the series. Also, Treyarch confirmed a new update to the game that’s now available on consoles and for PC later this week. Here are the main features:

  • Debut of Gauntlets and new Elixirs in Zombies on PS4
  • A new week of Featured Playlists and the addition of Elevation and Madagascar to map rotation for Black Ops Pass owners in Multiplayer
  • New-and-improved console looting interface in Blackout

Full details and notes on the update are available at the Treyarch Reddit post. You can check out a trailer for the special Blackout free trial below.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s rated M for Mature (Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Strong Language). In October, Activision announced that the game made $500 million in its first week of release.
