Speaking to Stooq.pl (via Windows Central), CD Projekt RED CEO and President Adam Kiciński stated that the developer will be working on the next installment of The Witcher game series following completion of Cyberpunk 2077. The new franchise installment will be a single-player game, which will be worked on by a small team.

Meanwhile, other teams at CDPR will be working on multiplayer and future additions for Cyberpunk 2077. The new Witcher game is estimated to take about four years to develop. It was previously reported by Eurogamer Poland that this will be be The Witcher 4, which makes sense as the main story for Geralt of Rivia and many of the central characters in The Witcher mythos concluded in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its two story expansions.

CDPR’s continued interest in The Witcher series shouldn’t be too surprising. Last year, the game developer managed to agree to a new deal with Andrzej Sapkowski, who authored the original Witcher book series. Kiciński stated on the subject in the Stooq interview, “You could risk saying that there was a 180-degree turn and we cemented our relationship with Mr. Sapkowski, not only on paper. We work together.”

Also, the franchise has found a new wave of popularity thanks to the debut of the live-action Netflix series, which hit the streaming service last December. A second season is currently in production, as well as an animated movie spinoff. Not to mention, the release of the Netflix show spiked sales and gameplay for Wild Hunt again.
