The absurd marsupial is making a comeback. Activision announced today that the gaming icon Crash Bandicoot is returning in a new installment for his game series, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. The game is due out for release later this year, and a new trailer was released, which you can see below.

The game is currently in development for PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X. It’s due out later this October. Pre-orders for the game are available now. This is the first original entry in the Crash Bandicoot game franchise in over 10 years. The game will feature a new art style for Crash by Toys for Bob.

It’s About Time rewinds time back to the end of Crash Bandicoot: Warped. Neo Cortex, Dr. N Tropy and Uka Uka were last stranded on a distant planet. After decades of fruitless attempts, the trio finally make their escape, ripping an Evil-Scientist-sized hole in the fabric of space-time in the process. Now all that stands between them and total dominion over the multiverse are two fuzzy marsupials from N. Sanity Island.

Co-Studio Head at Toys for Bob Paul Yan stated on today’s reveal: “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time stands on the shoulders of the core precision gameplay we all fell in love with in the ‘90s. This epic new adventure spans space and time, introducing new ways to platform that both long-time fans and new players alike will enjoy mastering. Get ready to fall in love with the mutant marsupials all over again!”

Activision President Rob Kostich added: “Our teams have delivered two awesome remastered Crash Bandicoot experiences and the community passion for the series continues to be incredible. Now it is time to turn the page and give players something entirely new. Loyal fans have been patiently waiting to see the journey continue for their favorite marsupial, and we’re giving players the completely new experience they deserve with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.”

During It’s About Time, players will search for the four Quantum Masks, the guardians of space and time. The masks will offer players the ability to bend the rules of reality in advanced ways to beat various obstacles. The Time Mask, revealed today, slows everything down. The Gravity Mask allows the bandicoots to platform upside down.

Advanced gameplay mechanics for Crash include wall running, rail grinding and rope swinging. Players will be able to control Crash or Coco during the game experience to save the multiverse. Additionally, Activision revealed the game will feature an alternative perspective from Neo Cortex, and the footage in the trailer shows that Cortex is also a playable character.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will be available for $59.99. The game is due out on October 2, 2020.
