D&D Beyond is expanding its functionality for Dungeon Masters with the alpha release of a Combat Tracker. The company announced the public alpha of the feature on Tuesday, which is designed to help DMs keep track of initiative in an easy-to-follow format.

It’s important to note that, as the changelog states, the feature is not in its finished product. It is available right now to all D&D subscribers as it continues active development. The plan is to push the feature out to non-subscribers once the feature is more developed. As it currently stands, the feature allows you to use encounters created in the Encounter Builder and add characters, tracking the initiatives (and auto-rolling or manually inputting initiative for DM-run characters) while also keeping quick track of where everyone is at. Additional monsters/enemies can be added mid-encounter if needed.

If you’re a subscriber to D&D Beyond, you can check it out through the Encounter Builder here. It’s still a little barebones (as expected of an Alpha); as of now you cannot do things like import PCs from your campaigns for example, or track much beyond initiative. The plan seems to be to build up additional features like those as it grows and moves toward a public beta.
