Marvel Champions: The Card Game

The heroes of Marvel are making their way into Fantasy Flight’s Living Card Game line in a newly-announced core set. Fantasy Flight Games announced on Thursday that they are producing Marvel Champions: The Card Game. The new game is a cooperative Living Card Game for one to four players that will bring five heroes together as they try to take down villains.

In the game, players take play as Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Black Panther, or She-Hulk. Each hero has their own identity card and a 40-50 card customizable deck that represents their powers, allies and assets. Each hero starts out as their alter-ego (Peter Parker, Carol Danvers, T’challa, Jennifer Walters, or Tony Stark_ and once per turn, you can change your character’s form to take on their superhero persona or return to the alter ego. Each of them has different benefits; alter egos get unique abilities and can heal, while the superhero form can directly attack the villain of the scenario.

The heroes must band together to defeat the villain, who advances their plots using a checklist and encounter deck guide. The villains’ encounter decks include schemes, minions and attacks and will require all the heroes to work together in order to win.

Marvel Champions follows FFG’s Living Card Game format as a collectible card game without the randomness of packs that games like Magic: The Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh! have. In addition, unlike previous Living Card Game Core Sets, Marvel Champions’ Core Set will provide a complete set of cards.

The game is now available for pre-order here or your friendly local gaming store, with a fourth quarter 2019 launch set.
