Earlier this week, Ubisoft officially announced the next installment in the Far Cry series with Far Cry 5. Today, Ubisoft confirmed the game’s release date. Far Cry 5 will launch on February 27, 2018. The game is currently being developed by Ubisoft Montreal for the PlayStation 4 Pro, the PS4, the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio, and Windows PC. You can also check out the announcement trailer and first gameplay videos below.

Far Cry 5 is going to be set in America for the first time in Montana, and players will have complete freedom to explore the serene-looking, yet deeply twisted, world solo or entirely in two-player co-op. Players take the role of a new junior deputy in the fictional town of Hope County, Montana. The arrival accelerates a silent coup by a fanatical doomsday cult; the Project at Eden’s Gate, which ignites a violent takeover of the county. Players are drawn into the power struggle and have to disrupt the cult’s plans and bolster the resistance to liberate Hope County.

Players will be able to take to the air in the game and engage in aerial dogfights. There will be a number of ground vehicles at players’ disposal as well including iconic American muscle cars, big rigs, ATVs, and boats. Vehicles will be a way for gamers to take refuge when being attacked by animals or find a way to make a quick escape when things go awry.

In terms of weapons and artillery, players will be able to use a variety of weapons and guns, as well as grenades and melee weapons like a sledgehammer or even a baseball bat. Also, players can recruit Guns for Hire from the game’s cast of characters, or even specialized animals called Fangs for Fire. The Fangs for Hire include bears and cougars, which will complement gameplay styles, whether players like to use stealth or use a more forceful approach.

Ubisoft also confirmed the map editor will be back for the game, and players will be able to create and play a number of new environments. The map editor will also be backed with new features, and more details on the new aspects will be revealed later on.

PlayStation 4 players will get free content with purchase of the game at launch. That same content will be available for Xbox One and PC systems as well through the Ubisoft Club.
